Why two test series for New Zealand
by devraj chakraborti on Jan 06, 2009 06:09 PM  | Hide replies

I dont understand the rules where New Zealand are granted two test status like Bangladesh when they are head and shoulders above the latter. On the other hand West Indies continue to play 4-5 test matches in a series. Given the current standard of West Indies team they should be the one playing 2 test series whereas New Zealand should be allowed to play more than 2 tests every series. What say guys?

Well, you have to consider the whole history not just the resent form of the countries.

WI have been legendry in tests. What they have given to tests and cricket is uncomparable to others. So it is time, cricket gives some to them. And more over with a country like WI, if you restrict them, cricket might be the one at loss and lose some of the finest happenings in cricket.Cretainly not the same with Newzealand not even England I can go as far as saying. Yeah the current standard is poor even compared to Newzealand but I would persist giving them the chance then others.

But this is a side topic. I would say we dont have to lessen that to give Newzealand an extra test. They have earned it themselves.

I think the two test format doesnt have anything to do with their performance.
Traditionally very few people watch test match cricket in New Zealand and so they think there's no point in having more than two.
