kapil Dev is the greatest Indian Cricketer of all time. No one would doubt this when one thinks about the time when he came in when we were opening the bowling w/Sunil Gavaskar, Abid Ali etc. He reinvented and turned Indian cricket from predominantly batting team to an all round team. Who can forget the tremendous images when batsmen from opposing teams were afraid to face him, the Melbourne Test where he bowled India to a win over Australia filled w/their best cricketers of all time? Who can forget the many times he excited the crowds w/his exhilarating batting while others did their best to kill cricket? ...and he also won us the World Cup against all odds...anything said about this will be less. ...and what about his greatest painful moments when he was accused of fixing matches by lesser known cricketers? We all wept for you, Kapil, when u gave that emotional press conference where you broke down when your pride of being an Indian was put into doubt by an extremely selfish criketer from the North.
Hats off to you, Kapil, for living the life you have, w/o compromises...there can be many cricketers who break your records but they cannot ever be Kapil. Fond regards, SSM
Long Live dear Kapil Dev(il), I wish you A HAPPY BIRTH DAY. As you lead the INDIAN Devils to get Prudential Cup in 1983, I call ed you Dev(il). Regards, Narayana Subramanian.

Rediff says...'Arguably the best all-rounder that India has ever produced' Arguably? We are not talking of the world here...its India. Kapil is the only cricketer ever on this planet to have taken 400 wickets ( hallmark of a great bowler) and scored 5000 test runs with 10 hundreds!!!! 5000 test runs used to be considered to be the benchmark for world class batsman...maybe now its a bit diluted with Bangladesh and Zim playing, but still very few reach that amount...and to think he was also the world record holder for wickets...AMAZING INDEED! He was also undoubtedly the best fielder amongst those 4 allrounders...very fit....hardly ever bowled a no ball....never needed sledging to take wickets...was very aggressive...what more can one have in one person???
Anyways will the writer of the above article come forward a tell me who competes with Kapil as an allrounder in Indian cricket?

Ha, Tendulkar plays for records and money. And how Kapil Dev kept playing for the last 2 years of his career without being of any use for his team .... why ? Just to break the world record of most Test wickets held by Richard Hadlee.
He kept a young Srinath out just for his greed of that world record. Certainly a selfless player.

Dude,
Get real... Achieve 1% of what he has done and then talk. He was a real fighter and infused the self-belief in the Indian team. Let's not trivialise his achievements as fluke.
