Not many will agree with me ... but I like Nasser Hussein's commentry. Specially the way he analyse the mental thinking of a player. Then comes Henry Blofield (specially his commentry on ear rings )
Benaud who ruled while Aussies made hay will be dejected at the plight his team is in. There can be much disappointing performance which may give him a stroke as well.
1) WC Final between Pak & England - Ritchie brings the atmosphere of the stadium into our living rooms with this, "The Pakistan players, the spectators in the stadium and I suspect millions back home are dancing in absolute joy"
2) A tongue-in-cheek humor - When Warne bowled Inzie between his legs, "You wouldn't believe this.. he's done him between the legs!"

How can you speak about the wisdom and the likes of Arun Lal and L Sivaramakrishnan like that Sir?? They are Subject Matter Experts in their field to say the least... Yes, they might not make it as entertaining as Ravi Shastri and S M Gavaskar...but one opines they do a very good analysis of a match... The likes of Benaud are unparallel.. and they have showed the way for modern day analytical commentary unlike the yesteryears when everything was discussed except cricket...
Tony Greig, Tony cozier, Geoffrey Boycott, Bill Lawry, Michael Holding, Ian Chappel.. are all regional in nature and there accent, opinions and approaches are definitely biased at one point in time or the other...and so are our Indian( desi) commentators.. Not to mention the likes of Harsha Bhogle.. who do an outstanding job behind the microphone...
Yes, despite his sparkling vocabulary.. we would still like to see the likes of Navjot Singh Sidhu behind mikes in the reality shows, or infront of stumps facing the Caribbean Pace Battery or even Shane warne... Ranjit Fernando..well.. a little too much bias one opines...
Understanding about a game takes a backseat when governed by a bias.. be it pro-white or anti-white.. One opines, that needs to be curbed first before commenting in such a forum..

I think Siva is the best Indian commentator...better than even Sunil Gavaskar and Shastri!!! It is amazing how he (Siva) instantly analyses the game from the field setting...and is invariably right. Shastri simply has his catch phrases and buzzwords and sticks to them...he doesn't add anything new...hasn't done so in many, many years!
Arun Lal is also terrific in his analysis of the game in a few minutes...and his interesting vignettes from his playng days. SSM
Benaud will indeed be remembered as a great commentator, Think its ripe time to retire as offlate he has been shrieking while getting excited over some Aussie success on the field !!
Just observed the commentary between Aus-SA and Aus-NZ. Their commentary from Slater, Ian Healy, Gilchrist is so biased. This made their commentary worst. But I agree the commentary of Benuad and Bill Lawry are one of the most I enjoyed.

Healy, Slater and Gilchrist... their on-field behavior and their off-field behavior are reason enough that they should not allowed behind the mikes...
The Caribbean commentators and the Indian commentators are much more unbiased in their approach.. That way we have often found the British Commentators scoring far beyond the Aussie commentators.. Yes.. If GW GRace is to cricket.. Richie Benaud is definitely to Commentary..
With his effective analysis along with Bill lawry and Ian chappell he was truly a commentator who incepted intrest into finer technicalities of cricket. I am an avid fan of Richie and C9 commentators and look forward for them every year December...A little bit partisan to Australia team but still a Great.
