will you keep your foul mouth shut. Wht knowledge you have to comment on a player like Vishy?
Who will believe that a debutant getting out on the very first ball of his life, and then went on to score century in the second innings. Only Gundappa Ranganatha Vishwanath. The always No. 4 position batsman and "Sankat Mochan" of India.
His flawless square cuts, on side flicks, cover drives and leg glances were against most fierce bowling attacks of Andy Roberts, Holding, Daniel, Julien, Holder, John Snow, Bon Willis, Dennis Lillie, Jeff Thomson, Imran Khan to name a few.
Vishwanath always had a special respect for Green Park where he started his test cricket career and made many centuries.

u idot.Dont u remember how jayasuriya used to thrash Prabhakar allover the park.Stop dividing Team India on the basis of region...and by the way being a north indian supporter cant u distinguish between prabhakar(the perpetual nonsense)an THE GR8 KAPIL DEV. U FOOL STATING PRABHAKAR AS THE BEST.
A master craftsman and gentleman of cricket - what more can one say about Vishwanath. His deft placements using the wrist to full advantage, effortless leg glances, courage to face any type of boilers, etc. are well known. He is a sportsman to the core. Totally non-controversial.
The present generation of cricketers can learn a lot from him.
May he have a Long and Healthy life to contribute to Indian cricket in whatever way he can !
One who does not know Vishy does not know Indian cricket. He was a genius and master stroke player and the king of square cut. Clive Lloyd once said - give me Vishwanath and Chandra [chandrashekhar] and I can take on any team. This was when windies had LLoyd, viv richards, kalicharan, greenidge, andy roberts, holding, derrick murray, vanburn holder, lance gibbs....

what an idiot your are? yuvraj has not yet secured a place in a test team. as far as stamina is concerned, Sreenath has played most no. of matches as a fast bowler for India and Dravid has never been out of the team due to injury. Do they lack stamina? Bangalore and Bangaloreans are the best, thats why it is crowded with people from all over. You rather shut up than speak nonsense.

you are talking like immatrured your thinking not grown up still compare the bowlers that time now present time then you know about cricket who told you south and north divide kumble srinath best bowler after kapil who served for india you have less knoweledge about cricket you are not worth to coment you dont have qualification for that
It is through the mags and the tv progs that we are finding such great players of Indian cricket. When the game became totally commercial, it looks as though we are watching base ball instead of cricket
The 20 overs matches are making the game a mere muscle game than game with skill and technique
He was a great player . Whenever he scored India had won the matches. His mastery on the square cut shots which will leave the fielder just zapped. he never used to run much but used get his scores by these shot. If my memory is right, once during a golden jubilee match with England, when Ian botham had ripped our Indian side, i don't remember the name of the batsman, the umpire has given him out for a catch but Vishy felt this was not a right decision and called the player back for batting. This has gone to be an important sporting decision although we lost the match in history of cricket.

You are right it was wicketkeeper of England Taylor.Vishy was great no one can ever hit the square cut loke him.
There are great parallels between both these men. Both had artistic batting qualities, team men, scored when it mattered the most. Ah! How impressive can it get...! A salute to you sir and a a very happy birthday!!!
As a chairman of nationa selection committee, he gave place to eight Karnataka players in the national team. Which included names like David Johnson....
