ICL missed opportunity
by ganessin virappin on Dec 08, 2009 07:34 PM

ICC and BCCI was ready to grant official veterans league status to ICL. But ICL missed that opportunity a big way. Now so many T20 players are veterans. Players like Gilchrist, Symonds, Langer, McGrath, Warne, Ganguly, Lara, Pollock, etc. are very good marketable players. Soon they will find Sachin, Dravid, Jayasuriya, etc. Some players may tend to take early retirement depending on the opportunities. Certainly ICL missed a big opportunity to cash in on the chance. It seems they are fighting losing battle.

Money game

BCCI currently has the highest income of any national cricket board. Its income has increased manifold in 2007-08 and crossed Rs 1000.41 crore, as compared to Rs 651.81 crore in 2006-07, leading to a surplus of Rs 303.15 crore.[4]. The global media rights for international cricket to be held in India between March 2006 and March 2010 were awarded to production house Nimbus for US$612 Million.[5]. Official kit sponsorship rights for 5 years from 2006 to 2010 inclusive were awarded to Nike for US$43 Million[6]. While Air Sahara became the official Indian cricket team sponsor for a period of four years at a cost of US$70 Million [7]. The media rights for 25 neutral venue one-day matches to be played over the next 5 years were awarded to Zee Telefilms for US$219.15 Million[8]. Business Standard [9] reports that it will get another Rs 2,000 crore ($450 million) from the sale of other rights, including hotel, travel and ground sponsorship.

As for any private club, BCCI or the state-level associations are not required to make their balance sheets public.

The most beautiful form of the game -Test Mathches is killed because of this money .Even no one can afford to watch a 5 day test so many are still interested and want to find the score . Even news channels which used to give latest score in one corner of the screen have stopped - witha message SMS - again make money .we are going the American way chasing wealth and one day we will all fall.

Bapu, you did not get Amit's point. Amit has a valid point. The Delhi High court has not jurisdiction about who can or can not file a suit against anyone else in UK or US or Uganda! If ICL can file a suit as per the laws of UK it will be allowed BY the court in UK, if not it will be DISALLOWED by the court in UK.

If ICL has the money, the means, the time, and the intention to file a suit in every nation in the world, it is their prerogative. The courts of India do not have jurisdiction beyond India.

Amit's point is valid and speaks about the HC exceeding its brief ('legal' jurisdiction) in this judgment. Dont get emotional about your mother land when it has nothing to do with motherland or fatherland.

BCCI is a monopoly - they must be broken
by wizardo id on Dec 08, 2009 01:50 PM

if cricket is to survive, we are better off with the sport and minus the money. right now there's one sport milking all the people's attention. BCCI and its antics makes it amply clear that there's slush money/ match fixing/ illegal betting, mafia, no respect for the nation or the people. its only about money.

BCCI is killing the sport!
by Talisman on Dec 08, 2009 01:05 PM

BCCI as it is now has over prescribed twenty-twenty and one-day matches and made them meaningless.

IPL is no good. The IPL teams are shown up as low quality in the champions league. No IPL team could make it past the first round. Yet. BCCI acts as though IPL is doing something good.

India has lost almost all its matches when it matters, thanks to BCCI and IPL. The last two world cups were a mess because of BCCI's reluctance to treat these world cup games as important.

BCCI needs new leaders to replace the current monkeys!

BCCI is bunch of Thugs and a Scam
by Batao Na on Dec 08, 2009 01:02 PM

BCCI is a comapny registered in Bahamas, How and when full rights of Indian Cricket were transferred to this monopolistic private company is not known to any one.
Despite grnadioise sounding name there is nothing official / national about BCCI.

Just like we have 8/9 telecom operators in every circle it is high time we have multiple player leagues and boards and similar to TRAI and IRDA one regulatory authority.
where is Swadeshi lobby ?

BCCI lawyers once said Team india does not play for India
by Talisman on Dec 08, 2009 01:00 PM

BCCI needs new leaders. I recommend Ganguly to become the chief! I am not a bengali. However, I am an indian and it is sad to see the sport sullied by politicians like Pawar and his coterie.

Need strong leaders that care about the game!

Do u know that Sachin, Dravid and Laxman will not play a test match together till 2011 in idnian soil?

Thse BCCI monkeys apparently do not care about test matches, as they dont bring the same money as the twenty-twenty matches.

Do we want the political junkeys in BCCI to decide when indian fans should see the last of these great players?

One Good outcome of ICL is that it force BCCI to start IPL so other player also get chance for playing and shown their ability who not get their chance in ODI or Test Matches for India, like Yosuf Pathan, Virat Kohli etc

pick and choose a court
by Abhishek Jain on Dec 08, 2009 12:36 PM  | Hide replies

Two persons fight. They go to court. Court rules in A's favour. B says, I don't like this court. Lets go to UK court and have a fight there. Great idea, keep roaming around the world till you find a condusive court which would rule in your favour.

Two persons fight. They go to court. Court rules in A's favour because all A's chimps are Politicos. B thinks, they have no chance in a corrupt country like India and goes to UK court and have a fight there. And there is NOTHING wrong with it. Remember they can even take this case to CAS. Its "sports" for Christ's sake.
