Vijay for No.3?
by Pappu Saala on Dec 06, 2009 01:38 AM  | Hide replies

Kirsten should be looking at who after Dravid / Sachin / Laxman. These 3 are going to retire in close succession.

I'd consider M.Vijay is the best bet for No.3, not replacement for Gambhir! Getting to play now is good exposure allowing him to settle into the team.

mark my world. M.Vijay will be in india team for few matches. he will flop like jaffer who scored 2 double century in indian pitch.

i doubt new comer will get a chance in year or two to replace dravid. next one will be laxman. most of indian player inflated their runrate and recond on flat indian home pitch. even raina or rohit sharma would have hit few 100 if he get a chance to play this series.

No 1 Test team at what cost?
by Nikhil Shah on Dec 06, 2009 12:55 AM  | Hide replies

At the cost of sacrificing the importance of seam bowling. Harbhajan started the bowling in the second innings and was not able to penetrate the Sri Lanka top order. We got so desperate that Dilshan was adjudged lbw and both Sreesanth and Zaheer missed out on the early morning dampness. With fresh legs, new ball and dew -- both seamers were sidelined -- If we cannot go after the tail tommorow with our seam bowling and take advantage of the early morning conditions then we don't deserve to be number one ranked team and continue to rely on spin and a heavy scoring batting lineup.

No 1 Test team ?
by sunder iyer on Dec 06, 2009 12:28 AM  | Hide replies

It requires great effort to get it.Otherwise you can only dream about it. Even to day our captain does not know how to place his field and the bowlers are not able bowl to their field.Gone are the days when Prasanna and Bedi surprise the batsman with understading from the keeper.

Some poeple are naive ........
by Dire Straits on Dec 06, 2009 12:13 AM  | Hide replies

People say that Kapil's era was the best of Indian cricket. That's laughable. How many Test series did we win during Kapil's era ? We were the punching bag of all teams at that time.

Our best era has been since the arrival of Sachin. Look at our achievements since then as a team -

1. We have won Test series against all Test playing nations. This is something we never accomplished previously.

2. We have won ODI series against all major nations.

3. We have won Test series in all but 3 countries - Sri Lanka, Australia and South Africa. We do have 2 Test series against South Africa coming up next year.

4. We have been the only team who defeated a full strength Australian team during the prime of their dominance. How many teams were able to win a Test series against the great West Indian team of the 80's ? India were whopped the West Indies in the 80's almost every time they met.

5. We have given the most dominant team of this generation (Australia) the biggest challenge among all other teams. Did India challenge the West Indian team of the 80's in such a way ?

6. For the first time we can be the # 1 Test team in the world if we win the current Test match. Only South Africa and Australia have done it previously. Did India ever reach the #2 spot, let alone #1 previously ?

The only thing people can complain is that we haven't won a World Cup in between. However, we do have the chance to win it in 2011. Then what will the critics complain of ?

GOOD TEAM EFFORT under the Captancy of DHONI has made this possible. 1st people joked that Dhoni's XI is just a T20 champ and not so good in tests and ODI and DHONI has proved every critic wrong. i hope INDIA delivers the knockout punch tomorrow to take the TITLE.

The main problem under dhoni captaincy is that it fails to deliver in the important matches like champions trophy and T20 world cup.

Why Dhoni alone? What others did in these two tournaments? What was the so called master blaster doing in Champions trophy.

The fact is that Indian cricket team is good for bi=lateral ties where fixing is done easily between the boards and Team India wins easily. But Team India fails miserably when it comes to play competitive cricket. 2007 WC, 2009 T20, 2009 CT are perfect examples to prove Team India's competance.

Finally the voice of reason...I am tired of people in India refusing to celebrate small achievements, being No. 1 would be great and according to the system we deserve it, why question it... well done Dire straits

Kapil's era is still golden and will remain golden for ever. He was fighting against a full swing WI team and won the world cup with determination.

He was alone fight back and scored 175 not out to lead the team from the front.

Sachin, as a captain waht is his success even in Ranji, IPL, Indian Team, etc. etc.

Can he able to win or part of a winning team in a world cup?

Dhoni has been riding with victories with a strong indian team of full batting and bowling.

But Kapil was playing with average batsman and bowlers but able to win the pride for india which India got only once in its cricket playing.

Remember the Test and ODI rating started only in the year 2002 and hence during Kapil's period we were not at no.1

Do not critizise Kapil. No one in Indian Team has to be compared with him.

He is a Genius with all, bat, ball, fieling, captaincy, humanity, etc. etc.
