but thr shud b uniformity wit No. of tests played by each team
by Prasadd D on Dec 02, 2009 01:25 AM

Warne makes a valid point and he seems to be referring to the current Football leagues like EPL which have bottom 3 teams getting relegated at the end of the season from Tier-I and the top 3 from Tier-II joining the Tier-I in the next season. Fair point.
But to implement this, ICC needs to make sure 1. all the teams in a Tier get to play each other equally. so that
2. At the end all the teams would have played equal matches to decide the ranking for relegation.
But as one can see, there are teams like India, Aus, SA who play test matches more than other teams like Pakistan, WI etc. So in this case its v.difficult to match the requirements of Mr.Warne though it is very interesting.

Mix of Test and ODI
by RAKESH DOGRA on Dec 01, 2009 06:39 PM

In order to save test cricket we will have to make tests result oriented it can be done as per the following formmula.
1st Innings-Ist batting side will bat for 90 overs only and if it gets out before 90 overs its balance overs will go to 2nd batting team and 2nd batting side will also bat for 90 overs balace over of 1st team if any.
2nd Innings - Now 1st team will get 130 overs to play and if gets out before that its balance over will go to 2nd team. Now team batting 2nd will have to score more than 1st team(total of 1st and 2nd innings runs)in 2nd innings in 130 overs balance over of 1st team if any.
Otherwise team 1st will be declared winner. In this way all tests will have result and they will be most exciting in lst two days.

WHY NOT PREPARE MORE SPORTING WICKETS!!!!
by Kalyan Sundaram on Dec 01, 2009 06:09 PM

Dont think wickets such as the ahmedabad one nor the kanpur one (where toss decides the fate of the match) will help even in a 2 tier system...why not prepare wickets such as the dunedin one(pakistan v n zealand) where each team had equal chances....one of the best test matches in recent times

Hatsoff to Warnie...!
by raja suresh on Dec 01, 2009 05:33 PM

I fully agree with what Warnie suggests....Its a great idea to have two-tire system in test...as it pumps more excitement and encourage teams to play for winning matches...definetly this the need of the hour to save the test's from being completely ignored...especially with T20 coming in to the picture.I think even Ganguly was also of the same view as Warnie to have two-tire system in tests...that's why they are called legends of cricket.

Good suggestion...

Sometimes back Ganguly also told about it. Top tier should have Australia, England, India, S.Africa, Srilanka. 2nd tier should have Pakistan, Westindies, Nezealand, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.

There should be a third tier also which should have Kenya, Ireland like minnows.

really dont know how much it might work...coz in countries like INDIA, still only 7 % prefer test cricket, as we can see by the ongoing india- sri lanka test series

Yes. But Pakistan and NZ will feel very bad. NZ in their own den a very formidable side. So It would be 7 in the top tier and another 7 in second tier. You know the news about ur favourite player B.Hodge quits first-class cricket?

I think test cricket is really boring to watch. This format of cricket is not commercially viable, BUT, it is this format of the game that tests your skills & patients to the core. You never gain respect as long as you don't prove yourself in this format of the game.

Here bowler can experiement with the ball, he can bowl a bouncer, bowl on the leg side, etc without worrying about wide ball, no ball and field restriction. So hence the batsmen has to rely on his skill and stay on teh crease.. rather than hit the ball like mad and get out in 4-5 overs...
But all this excitement is never really felt by the spectator, hence we need to be more innovative in making it appealling for people to watch it for 5 days. We need to invest in technology and creativity here and I am sure this would definately then be commercially viable as IPL, WC etc...
