Why Clark who is no good in ODI & T20
by Mac Playboy on Aug 27, 2009 01:36 PM  | Hide replies

I dont understand why would Ricky Ponting handover ODI & T20 captaincy to Michael Clark.
I guess Ricky is far better player in ODI & T20 than this guy Clark who is surviving bcoz of other failures.
Clark is good batsman for tests but not for ODI & T20

Maybe Ricky should think twice

Split Captaincy

If this happens, then Ponting shud no play ODIs. Thats bcoz no other captain in Aus has played under another "new" captain later. Waugh was the test captain, Ponting in ODIs, but Waugh didnt play ODIs. Likewise Ponting shud not play ODIs if CA goes for two-captain theory.

Any captan is successful only with great team. captancy doesn't play more than 1% role in cricket win. Its only no. of match winners in team & their form/fitness decide outcome of any win. U can see the example of dhobi-how he lost this T-20 wcup miserably. Its only indian media who give too much importance to captancy.

Team depends mainly on players not Captain

If by chance too many great players come in the same age then team become great..it happened with WI in 80s(4 great first bowler together) or Aus 90's (2 batsman , one wicketkeeper and 2 bowler)... hope this will happen to India now.. I guess its already in ODI... ( 3 batsman sachin, schewag, yuvraj, 1 keeper Dhoni, and 3-4 better then average bowler)

U are right Mr bhattacharya.
Only great team win matches & not great captan. lately india is winning more matches just because few good bowlers had come in side otherwise batting line up was always the best with likes of sachin/sehwag/dravid/laxman/yuvi etc.It doesn't matter who the captan is- whether its overhyped dhobi or any tom-dick-herry, u will win the match if u have good balance of great batsman/bowlers 7 they are in form.

yes, India never had 2-3 great batsman and 2-3 great bowler together.... late in ODI we can concider Schewag,Sachin and Yuvraj as 3 great batsman .. but still we are missing great bowler of Macgrath or Akram standard to be unbetable team.

So what do you say about 2007 WC? Then also the team was almost similar and yet India failed to make to the super 8 losing to minnows like Bangladesh.
As far as calling DhoBi overhyped, just see India's last series against Australia and compare the two matches Kumble lead and the remaining two DhoBi lead. DhoBi's team thrashed Australia while when Kumble lead, India just survived. So captain also matters.

u can't concider few matches to analyse.. Thn concider 4th Ashes test , Ricky Ponting was the captain and Australia looked unstoppale an dnext match same Ponting captain and they are out.... we are talking about a team with consistent win... For Aus Alan Border,Mark Taylor,Ricky Ponting all was wining matches ... so it was not captaincy rather their team was great ..even Sahen Warne or Gilcrist would have doenm the same thing given a chance..

Ricky Ponting should carry on in both format. He is a great leader for team. He should quit or resigns from captainship where he feels that enough now i can not play. Otherwise he is a gem for Aus cricket. How can anyone forget that he has won two successfully World Cup pride for his team.
