Ricky has class!!
by KHALID RAUF on Aug 04, 2009 12:33 PM  | Hide replies

Ricy Ponting is certainely one of the greatest
Australian batsman but topmost since Bradman is debatable.Kudos to Australian selectors for persisting with Ricky inspite his scoring 5 or 6 ducks in succession in tests and remember remarking that they always look toward CLASS
not performances. How true! Indian selectors should take a cue

Indian selectors also always prefer class rather than performance. See the example of R.Dravid in test. He carries his bad performance over 2 years and now back in his form.

Australia give the foundation for best players.
by bihari babu on Aug 04, 2009 12:19 PM  | Hide replies

Australia has very intese environment for sports. Since childhood they value physical stamina much more than anything else. That help them. Same is US, china - they are growing fast because they have massive investment in terms of taking care of energy of children since childhood. The food, exercies everything, they pay massive attention on it. In india we always ignore it. Thats why indian always lack energy compared to any western people.
We are too needy, afraid. Leziness is result of this. Now we are growing economically, hopefully things will change. In the land of krishna, play would begin.

Thats exactly why Viru Sehwag, Sachin, VVS, Dravid have over the years, mauled every Australian attack conceivable.......

We have dominated them in the last 10 years in most test series except the one in Australia in 1999/2000.......and i have always believed that India can outthink and outwit Australia...superior Indian brains got the better of the Aussies in the CB series finals.....

unlike some "mumbaikers" who played to make records and be proud of them, even when it hasn't helped the country to win a single WC title. Imagine even t20 was won by unknowns then.
the biggest e.g i would give to all these sachin lovers, this man will never have WC under his name, bec even if he tries now,he is too old to perform. he has made centuries when the ball has become old, not like viru or dravid. Ricky ponting has wC under his name that too as the captain of the winning team, that itself proves how good a captain and batsman he is, and ofcource i am sure he hasnt applied to his Govt to tax exempt his gifted car, there is limit to shameless behavior, even after earning crores people still want to ask govt to exempt the tax...
I hope all u sachin fan will keep quiet for now, or i will be forced to write more abt ur god/hero, who never was.

Bhasmasur , you are like your name , we have not dominated them in all the series in last 10 years , Infact we have lost a home series also in 2004-05 against aussies convincingly. Never won a away series and were humbled time and again in WCs.

We all know what happened in 2003 and in 2007......Had umpiring been neutral, both the series would have been won by India......

And India beat them convincingly in the last series 2-0........

Border Gavaskar Trophy was initiated in 1996, since 1996, India have won 10 tests against Australia....and they have won 10 tests....so it is pretty even stevens..if you take ou the glaring umpiring errors in 2 series, India have actually dominated Australia....

There were no glaring umpiring errors in 2003 series , stop being a cry baby ... What about WC performances dude , 2003 WC final, what umpiring error caused our downfall ? Aussies came in India and won the Champions Trophy , defeated India in a ODI series 5-2 , Infact have never lost an ODI series in India. The number of Test matches in which Ricky ponting was part of an winning team is more than the total number of matches India won in its Test History

You see , you are also selective , have not touched the points regarding WC , Champions trophy, etc , also a lot of people talk about sachin against Warne and Mcgrath , in 10 series that Sachinplayed against aussies in 5 of them there was no Warne/Mcgrath . He never dominated Glen Mcgrath the way Lara did. Also see Sachin's dismal record against SA ( for people who feel he is good against pace) and his performance against Srilanka in the last series (when confronted against real quality spinners)

Indian have not been given LBW so many times by Indian umpires when Aussies or other countries have toured India.. How come we can only see others been not given out.. and be blind when indians get the same treatment.. India wins series in India as umpires favour indian batsman and bowlers..

Best batsman in todays scenario....
by Anurag Rathore on Aug 04, 2009 12:03 PM  | Hide replies

In todays scenario the best batsman are K.Pieterson, G.Gambhir and G.Smith. They are playing fantastic in all three formats.

Well Ponting is second best for Australia but it can have a long conversation who is better Hayden or Ponting. in my view Hayden is second best for Australia after Bradman. But according to stats it shows Ponting.

Hayden reamined a great player almost till the end of his career...however, in the last one year, he lost his hunger and was also afflicted by injuries.....
His overall average is thus lower than that of Ponting.......i have my doubts, i will put Ponting above Hayden......

Hayden faced new bowl throughout his career. And most of the time Ponting made good runs on the foundation made by Langer and Hayden.

If you will check Ponting record without Hayden. Then his average is around 45 only.

Ponting not a complete batsman,
by Story editor on Aug 04, 2009 11:57 AM  | Hide replies

Ricky Ponting's technique against spin is still very susceptible and hence although in terms of runs he would be right up there he is not a complete batsman and cannot be counted with the likes of Bradman, Sachin, Richards and even Steve Waugh.

After Bradman, Waugh is the greatest Austratlian test batsman.

Waugh isnt greatest batsman. He is no doubt a great leader. His technics werent the best. His grit and determination cannot be matched. We have seen some of the worst defence shot from Waugh. Most of the time trying to evade the ball by hook or crook, tapping here and there. If you say best batsman - I would say no to Waugh. But a great player he will be in my top 5.
