RR is a useless team
by Aryan on Apr 29, 2009 10:41 AM  | Hide replies

Delhi would have won yesterdays match if not for two silly errors they committed.
1) Viru dropped Smith when his score was in single digit.
2) The simple catch offered by yusuf at deep square leg was not taken even though the fielder had all the time in the world to take the catch.
Should these two opportunities were to be taken, RR would have definitely got defeated.
RR is a just a bunch of rookie players except for a few intl stars, and I do not see them going a long way in this edition of IPL.
They r losers all the way...

Guest: do not compare a legend with an avg player.
Yusuf thrives purely on big shots that involve a huge risk.
Yesterday if his catch had been taken when his score was around 20 then the story would have been different.
If yusuf is so gr8 a player why is he not given a chance in Tests????
He lacks the capacity to bat for long duration, which is a prerequisite in Tests and the hallmark of a gr8 player.

Aryan,

According to me for Tests there is no need dedication only he should play well and get runs. practically say which one would you like 100 runs from 250balls or 100runs from 120 balls.
In earlier days they played very slow and why you expect now also should play in the same manner.

they should not see he is a hitter or not only they should his form only for tests.

if hard hitter could not survive in tests how shewaq, gilly and so many ....

Strange!
No body's talking about Warne's catch. He's of 40 and what a catch he took yesterday! A 18 years old will be envy of that catch. At this age, he is fielding very well. Amaging!

What is special?
First Jonty has taken more spectacular /almost unbelievable catches than anyone in the cricket world, leave Ganguly alone. Second, Warne is of 40 and that is what makes it special. Ganguly is just around 37 and look at his fielding now, compare it with Warne's and think who is better?

IPL 2009 So Far...
by B M on Apr 29, 2009 10:31 AM  | Hide replies

1. Dhoni is no magician. CSK's performance so far shows that a captain cannot win matches if his team members under performs. Dhoni is a good captain, but major credit for India's recent success should go to the successful players and not the captain.

2. Team management is very important. KKR is the most mismanaged team amongst all the IPL teams. They lack leadership and direction and that has resulted in their exceptionally poor performance. A good team can get demoralized quickly if the owner and coach indulge in petty politics.

3. 20-20 is not necessarily a young mans game. The best batting performances so far have come from seniors - Gilchrist, Hayden, Tendulkar, Jayasurya, to name a few.

I am a great fan of Dhoni, but it is not my business to defend him if he is really indefensible.

But sensible thinking makes me to look at the following:

1. MI boasts of Sanath Jayasuria, Tendulkar, A Nayar, Bravo etc. and to restrict them to a score of 165 was commendable. This, despite a rusty Flintoff (later to reveal his knee injury) choosing to play for the sake of more payment than Dhoni and giving away lollypops to Nayar. The match should have been won hands down by CSK.

2. DD made the highest score of 189, yet CSK came to 180, losing by just 9 runs, unlike KKR fumbling and falling by 92 runs against MI while chasing a similar total.

3. If rain had not washed off the tie against RR, CSK might have won it.

4. Indians in general and Dhoni in particular have been playing non stop cricket - explaining why the likes of Dhoni, Gambhir, Sehwag etc. are failing with the bat while the likes of Ganguly, Dravid are doing well. Only exception being Sachin, who seems motivated to do better for MI than last year.

5. For some strange reason, the CSK franchisee is persisting with the likes of Parthiv Patel and Badrinath, while Murali Vijay and Vidyut are languishing.

6. There are still 9 matches to go at league stage and CSK cannot be written off.

I would like to believe that CSK may play a percentage game and reach the semifinals and then do better to win the trophy this year.

My choice for IPL winner: 1. CSK 2. DC 3. DD 4. KXIP

You are wrong about Ganguly as well. Whatever applies to Dhoni also applies to Ganguly. Simply bringing aggression does not bring success. Ganguly won matches because of contribution of players like Dravid, Sachin, Kumble etc. If team members had not played well, India would not have won only because of Ganguly's aggression.

Many times, a captains deficiencies can be easily masked by the teams super performance. One such example is Ponting who is a pretty ordinary captain. But Aussies had a golden run under his captaincy because there were several players in great form - Hayden, Ponting (as a batsman), Warne, McGrath, Gilchrist, to name a few. Ponting was no miracle man and the moment these good players were out of the team, Aussies started losing.

Mr BM, think of this: Ponting was captaining a team of stalwarts like Hayden, Gilchrist, Martyn, Langer, McGrath, Warne, Lee etc. To command their respect and be at the helm of affairs is itself a highly creditable achievement.

Well said BM!
But a captain should be cool in tough times and sometimes his decision on the right time counts in team's success or failure. I personally think Yuvraj and Sehwag are wrost captain. They can't lead team India. So Dhoni is a better choice for now.

Dravid
by Nayak Nayak on Apr 29, 2009 10:31 AM  | Hide replies

I do not agree with the way Dravid treating his team by returning to India to see his newborn. When technology is so advanced he could have seen the baby from SA instead of rushing to Bangalore putting his team in trouble. Thousands or Army and police men who serve the Country hardly see their new born for months for want of permission from higher ups for leave. Dravid could have played his match against Kings XI and then moved to India as Mr Mallya has invested so much on him to play in the team. These cricketers are selfish and never ready to sacrifice their personal happiness for the team they play.

Doesn't he has the right to see his newborn and his wife? Fine, technology is advanced and he could see then this way but dude what he can feel by staying with then couldn't feel then. You will know when you'll have a child!
Have a nice time ahead buddy!
And have a lovely time for Dravid and his family too.

Re: Dravid

Dravid has almost similar thinking.

You say that in these days of advanced technology he could have seen his baby from SA.

He is proposing to do just the same but in the opposite direction - using advanced technology he will be seeing, contacting, talking to and interacting with his team RCB and motivating them for an excellent performance.

(Well, forget this, I was just joking. Please think - when the franchise owner Vijay Mallya openly castigates Dravid for choosing a "Test" team against his wishes and turning in a bad performance as player and captain, drop him as captain to appoint KP/JK as captain this season, how else do you expect Dravid to react? He perhaps did the right thing from his perspective, knocking up a few fantastic and fast paced T20 innings before leaving the team high and dry! Now Ray Jennings is talking about Dravid being available to lead the team and JK not being automatic choice!)

RCB and KKR are the most hyped IPL teams because of their ownership and one doesn't see them doing well.
