you already have one! the tobacco industry has bribed the governments all over the world, faought frivolous lawsuits, faked medical reports, released fake reports of smoking has nothing to do with cancer etc! they did their best to stop governments from banning smoking in public etc.

they lost lawsuits everywhere. they are are slowly shifting thier business wisely. like how ITC is into biscuits, shampoo, soaps and FMCG

smoking drinking etc
by PRASAD ANL on Apr 25, 2009 06:31 PM  | Hide replies

i dont know why NOTE protest for smoking? if they have guts let them ask government to stop manufacturing of cigerrates itself. this applies to who oppose drinking, gambling, racing etc. BUT OUR GOVERNMENTS WANT ALL THESE BAD HABITS TO SPOIL THE SOCIETY. ANY ORGANISATION/ASSOCIATION CANNOT STOP IT. BECAUSE BY LAW THEY HAVE PERMISSION TO MANUFACTURE LIQUORS,CIGERRATES, ETC AND TO SELL THEM. STOP AT BASIC LEVEL FIRST AND THEN SPEAK

the government is not THEM. it is US.

we cant clamp a ban on the tobacco at once, the tobacco money is everywhere. there are good guys and other guys amongst us ( i wouldn't say tobacco growers are bad, but the tobacco industry using illegal tactics to get people hooked onto tobacco - thus easy money - are surely bad). the industry has greased that easy money everywhere including easy taxes.

thats a hard habit to kick, but we've made some start!

KNIFE IS USED FOR FRUIT CUTTING AND ALSO CAN BE FOR KILLING. LIKEWISE, TOBACCO CAN BE USED FOR MEDICINAL PRODUCTS, ALCOHOL CAN BE USED FOR MEDICINAL PRODUCTS, QUARRELLING FOR GOOD CAUSE, RACE FOR ENTERTAINMENT, GAMBLE WITHOUT HURTING ANYBODY. THAT SHOULD BE THE SPIRIT OF INDIA

Just because one asks to be allowed to make some lifestyle choices, that doesn't mean one is asking to be allowed to rape, murder etc. Even the Vedas talk about "Dhumra Paan"...so don't go about telling people what to do with their lives. And btw, drinking in public is legal...it's just smoking we seem to have a problem with.

not insane laws. its just that your freedom ends where someone else's freedom begins. why should everyone pay for someone else's habits ?

shahrukh is very well aware of the fact about harmful effects of smoking on his health and also on the fans... he may loose early his career in bollywood due to several diseases which arises due to smoking and youths who follow him blindly can also get addicted of smoking and destroys their lives. He not only has to think twice about himself but also about the future of our nation as it rests on youths.

but he surely deserves his negative publicity, at least for me that works! they dont get publicity for nothing, they get paid because they are public figures. thats a baggage that they will have to learn to accept. its like saying salman is indicted for killing those animals for nothing - and he's being nailed because he's a public figure. well he's better darn pay for it. stop making it an issue and just give the man what he deserves!

I am not trying to protect any one - Shah Rukh smoked in S Africa - if there is a law in S A then(The S African Authorities) hang him if that is the punishment - BUT dont SHOUT in India and dont quote Indian Laws to Punish him in S Africa.
In India, there can and should be an uproar if Shah Rukh smokes in any PROHIBITED Place and is not given the CHALLAN - otherwise there should be NO MORAL SUPERVISORS - supervising others lives and unable even to clean his/her own blowing nose!!!!!

if there's a provision to hang him for that , let them do that :p

one less publicity vvhore to deal with!

they have a ban on smoking in public since 1999. it'll be interesting to note to see if he's punished. a law is a law, if he cannot go for a break then, so be it - let him be prepared to face the heat.

well, i dint pass the law if you check wikipedia - it has the answers. it says south africa has banned smoking in public. you are right abt the report - but im not sure of what their definition of public space is! in india a stadium is certainly a public space - just like a restaurant or a pub etc - even though if its an open space. shah rukh was around the box area.

by Ravi Shankar on Apr 25, 2009 06:18 PM  | Hide replies

The real culprit is the media. It is very unfortunate that our media is still not matured, nor have they understood theiir responsibility. These people are ready to go to any extent to gather people's attention.

Request these media reporters to gather news that would help in developing vour society.
