Take the ten over break what does it serve more advertisements - switch off save world and save power bill. Tomorrow there will be drinks break after 5 overs .It is a seer waste of tiem .If teams can not have palyers who can not play 20 overs - give them roles in running BCCI - ruining cricket

Some improvement in model
by Shraddha Agarwal on Apr 19, 2009 01:08 PM  | Hide replies

rather than squaring its contribution , i think curving which basically will assign run contribution compare to others in team thus more reflecting contribution of player to out of come match. squaring won;t handle case where both player may score 100 but only one hundred was sufficient to achieve desired outcome. Also we must take into account performances in critical matches by creating a network diagram to reach the outcome and assigning more weightage to node on critical paths. one way would be plotting all possible paths , counting total no of nodes by adding node in each path even its repeated. Dividing 100 /total no. weight = each node weightage. say for eg final comes max because its on all path , so it will automatically get more weightage (indv. weightage * no of paths found). Brand value can be assigned based on no of international matches played , no of ads appeared in last year, no of rediff articles etc. Since brand of perormance are related 30% of overall ranking to brand and 70% performance.

IPL & Rediff valuable player indices-II

(Continued from previous post): Fact is, a new concept like IPL not only needs legitimacy but also popularity in order for it to be perceived as mainstream event and to succeed in a competitive arena (ICL is a competitors, and so could be similar events to be launched by respective countries). Presence of star cricketers serves this purpose. When there are names like Ganguly, Tendulkar, Dravid, Laxman, et al, the whole concept seems genuine, mainstream, legitimate. Those names are brands in this context, and their brand-equity is tremendous. They get paid for brand-equity, not just for their on-field performance. IPL as a successful brand would spell big money for franchisees. So, it's only apt that some of that big money is shared by those who help make it. To ignore this key aspect and try to find a direct relationship between earnings and on-field performance is tantamount to ignoring the other side of the coin. But it is not as if Index and Rating fellows are really ignorant. They know it is a gimmick that will get them some public attention -- there are enough unsuspecting suckers out there. Such attention eventually translates to brand-equity and enhanced public image for wannabe big-league corporates. So there.

All that mumbo jumbo still does not obliterate the fact that the world is mostly peopled with oafs - more than enough numbers to ensure that anyone with any kind of a splinter skill (cricket being a very conspicuous one) can very easily milk that most unfortunate of all traits of commoners, namely his oafishness !

Agree Piri. All this online outpouring of views and emotions is sickening. People think Internet is really democratic, that they have power of expression now, that their say in cyberspace is significant. Deluded fools. Internet is just a gimmick -- at best, it is like a meaningless, inconsequential outlet for pent-up steam of impotent citizens; at worst, it is delusional. Shame that millions get taken in and believe the world has changed. So few know that the whole Susan Doyle story is a clever, sophisticated mass psychology gimmick designed and executed to make a TV channel/show popular. But people think Internet, YouTube, Facebook, etc have transformed the world. SUCKERS -- there's no shortage of them in tiis world. No wonder, dynasties, nepotism, etc, thrive. Akhilesh Yadav, Abhishek Bacchan, Rahul Gandhi, Ranbir Kapoor, Stalin, Anousha Shankar, et al thrive; while suckers surf the Internet and post stupid reactions like manipulated automatons.

IPL & Rediff valuable player indices

Totally agree with Anand Mehta, BloodyMary, et al. It has become a fad for every wannabe big-ticket corporate to launch into gimmicks like this, as if to tell the world, "We've arrived", as if the world cares a damn for whether or not they arrived. Branded ratings are an old trick: just look at all the leading stock market indices. Then the TV ratings. Credit ratings. Etc. They all also 'push' the respective brands linked to them. At this rate, every corporate wanting to be seen as belonging to the big league, will probably launch a rating for everything that has mass appeal: ratings for film stars, directors, political parties, politicians, celebrities, musicians, so on. How about Akshay Kumar's value quotient based on his remuneration for Chinatown Chandni Chowk, the number of weeks/days/hours the movie ran, its grossing at the box-office, divided by his net worth, and some such sh*t? Or MVP (most valued politician) index for politicians such as Advani, divided by his declared assets, number of people killed in riots linked directly or indirectly to his brand of politics and speeches, multiplied by the number of votes he gets in his own constituency, divided by the percentage increase/decrease ("swing") in BJP vote-bank in state and national election as single party and as a member of a coalition? Well, I can cite more examples, but you get the drift, don't you? Fact is, a new concept like IPL not only needs legitimacy but popularity in order for (continued in next post...)

IPL Paisa Vasool

For every idea there are some who would like to try it and there are others, who are usually in majority, who would consider it a waste of time. Playing with statistics just to find better algorithm is quite popular with computer professionals. Today people are busy hence the test matches got reduced to 50 overs and then 20 overs and even 6 overs. Cricket is a game to watch and enjoy but there are many who would like to watch highlights, action replay, catches, sixers and so on repeatedly. For my son, who is physically handicapped, this provides a lot of entertainment.
To sum it up let those who like to develop this idea, let them enjoy and rediff is doing a great service to them. For the rest pl do not visit the page after you read the heading. It is that simple and do not waste yr time even in commenting on it.
