Questions to Dhoni
by vathula on Apr 19, 2009 01:23 PM  | Hide replies

Q1) Why was Murali dropped? (The spinners in all other 3 innings have done so well and any day Murali is better than Tharanga)
Q2) Why was Ashwin not given a single over? (R Ashwin is the second highest wicket taker in the domestic circuit last year. He is also in T30 probables while Joginder is not even there)
Q3) What was Flintoff's role at No.4? To build a partnership or to hit/ smack the ball? If the role was the former, then Badri or Dhoni would have been a better choice.
Q4) Why did Dhoni not cross over when Badri holed out to deep long on?
Q5) Why was Thushara not sent ahead of Joginder in battibng. Thushara has very big hitting capabilities.
I am deeply disappointed with Dhoni. If he continues like this, he will be accused of bias and not inefficiency.

well..i had similar thoughts initially but let me play Dhoni's advocate

1. Other 3 innings which proved spinners worth happened later. If Dhoni still fails to induct murli next match, then thats a problem.

2. Well a total of 155 which MI achieved at best could be called at par. So its not inthe bowling department that they erred that dhoni could be accused of not making smart bowling changes. It was flintoff over which caused the damage. We certainly cannot point fingers at dhoni for letting flintoff bowl late in the innings. even you would have throuwn the ball at him.

3. Freddi is capable of doing both, building as well as hitting. If you have seen his test career last 1-2 years.

4. Perhaps he initially thought it was going for a 6? Atleast I and the commentrators felt likewise...

5. Well by that stage chennai has lost it, not sure that would have made any difference whatso-over

In hindsight remember captainship is 90% luck and 10% skill. And in this version of the game the ratio can be 95:5.

well.. I am not blaming any individuals like Raina or Flintoff bowling or Hayden's drop...these things happen. Not giving Aswin even a single over is a terrible mistake, to say the least. Anyway....lets move on.

CSK or DSK?
by K Chandru on Apr 19, 2009 09:29 AM  | Hide replies

Are any Chennaiites really attached to this team? Well! I'm not. I may well call this team Dhoni's Super Kings, instead of calling it Chennai Super Kings. Barring the name ofcourse, this team hardly has anything to do with Chennai.

When Flintoff went for 11 an over, Ashwin wasn't called to bowl. Ashwin ended up mere `also ran' in the end. Badri would have been an ideal No.3 (or, No.4) batsman; whereas, he was dropped further down in the order and humiliated. Parthiv was preferred when there was already a WK in the captain himself in the team, ahead of an Aniruddha / Vidyut / Abhinav Mukund.

Even in the poorly made up CSK Ad, only Dhoni, Raina and Joginder are in the forefront and not a Balaji or a Badri.

The owner of the team seems to have no say over the team and I'm sure if it's let to go on like this, Chennaiites would sure lose interest and attachment over the team.

In the context of what's happening and who's the boss, isn't it wise to call this team DSK rather than calling it CSK?

I completely agree with this.
Badrinath should have followed Raina and balaji in for Joginder make sense. Dhoni falters here totally. Murali Vijay should have opend the innings with Hayden. This team doesnt look like chennai super kings by any means

according to me Murali vijay is a good player than parthiv patel. and dont understand why dhoni giving lot of prefernce to johinder rather he did achieve anything. Why balaji cant play inplace of johinder.
