About Kaif
by Michael DSa on Apr 17, 2009 03:50 PM

My friend - To be great batsman you don't need a slot to go out and bat. Talented batsman can bat at any position. That is how extra talented players are identified. I believe Kaif was not so talented to survive in Indian team for long. Being a good fielder doesn’t help alone.

Kaif dropped from Rajasthan Royals

Kaif never got his due. BCCI and team management kept him shuffling up and down the order. Ultimately he got the No.7 slot wherein his was No.3 or 4. Whenever he got a Test, he lived up to the challenge. His Test record is better than Yuvraj even now. Raina, Rohit or Yuvraj do not come close to him in ODI-fielding or batting. Getting dropped from RR is actually good for Kaif. Yes monetarily it may be a loss for him. But once he makes a comeback to Indian Test/ODI team, he can more than make up for the loss thru endorsements. He was one of the top six rungetters in Ranji last year. His chance is destined to come the moment Laxman or Dravid or Sachin retire. Kaif is too classy and too big a fighter to be left out of ODI and Test teams for long. He will surely come back to the Indian team. He is still the best fielder in the country and India's fittest cricketer. He is still country's best runner between the wickets. 20-20 format is for lesser mortals like Jadeja and Yusuf who can't survive beyond 25 overs. Test cricket is the real cricket and to some extent ODI. Kaif is meant for that. And he will surely be India's captain too one day. Sehwag, Yuvraj and Gambhir are not captaincy materials. Dhoni will run out his luck. India doesn't forgive even one captaincy mistake overseas. Look what happened to Sachin, Azhar and Saurav. So captaincy will also come Kaif's way. Look at Kaif's gr

I agree with a lot of what Rumi said. unfortunately, Kaif is not likely to get a chance to break into Test match side. Kaif always has been a committed and hardworking performer. He has some match winning innings to his credit. It is clear that if he had some support ( from captain or BCCI officials), he would have been a regular fixture in our one day internation team atleast. His morale has been continuously beaten down by not selecting him inspite of being one of India's best fielders and a dependable bat.

Kaif will not lose any single penny from his contract as RR has droped him, he didn't opt out. They have to pay as per their avaibility in no. of matches and he is available. It's their decision to drop him. He will get his full payment, even after fielder get injured they had to pay them. Further, there is no doubt that he is fittest player, good fielder, a fighter and a team player unlike lot of selfish players. But he can't hit sixes, even in practice match with SA local team he got out with stupid shot. He is good captaincy material, but player should have automatic choice in playing 11. He sacrifices a lot under Ganguly playing at no. 7 where now Harbhajahn playes. He will no come back in Indian team. May be later as feilding & Running between the wicket coach, or coach of UP team.

Kaif is highly underrated.

He is a better choice anytime than Yuvraj when dependable innings are required.

He may not be flashy or stylish but surely holds innings together and keeps scoreboard ticking.

ICL is a better platform. In BCCI you need God fathers to get aplace even under 14 to Ranji and Tests.

MI stands good chance
by iftekar dabir on Apr 16, 2009 06:22 PM  | Hide replies

Mumbai Indians stand good chance this season as Zaheer Khan & Harbhajan Singh both are in fine form with ball and some times bat also with talented Dhawal Kulkarni and add to this overseas bowlers. These 3 has been in indian squad and goo form. Apart from this in batting if Sachin and Sanath Jaysuriya fires especially Jaysurya and then JP Duminy as he did in Australia with some local talent like Abhishek Nayer and Ajinkya Rahane or Shikhar Dhawan. Only weak link is they don't have talented wicket keeper who can score some quick runs but that can be over come with Bhajji & Zaheer hit some long sixes
