Total 0 wickets in last two test matches dropped two sitters which cost us the win Totally unfit and cannot field anywhere Mug with the bat Why is Dhoni not giving chance to any new fast bowler?
Re: Why was Munaf Patel played
by Cricketlover on Apr 09, 2009 02:01 AM
Correct man.. Munaf is really a hopeless fellow. In the whole series, it looked like we are playing with 3 bowlers only. This might also have been 1 of the cause of late declaration of Dhoni in the last match. He could not be sure that his 3 bowlers would be able to take 10 wickets on a flat pitch
The clock was advanced by one hour. The game which used to end at 1100 hrs IST ended at 1000 hrs IST. Whether this information was available with the team. Moreover, it is very difficult to predict the rain timings. Had the rain gods waited for some more time to lash the Wellington India could have pocketed the test match.
When we speak about declaration many have criticized Dhonis declaration. But those people would have still cursed if India had declared for 500 lead and if Newzealand come close to the target. They would have said that "There are 2 more days left and why this Dhoni is in urgency for declaration". So there is no value for IFs and BUTs in cricket. Rain has denied India the win. No body can do anything about it.Even in real life does all the decision we make suceed !!! Some decesions may go wrong.. sometimes our judgement clicks and sometimes not. The issue is how many times we suceed in making good judgement. If we analyse in that way Dhoni has done pretty well to wrap up the series. Yes it is a collective team effort. But even then Captain gets a credit because its the Captain who is targeted 1st if a team loses.
by not declaring with a lead of 531 runs, what dhoni has proved abt our bolrs? 1) whether he was having lack of confidence with our bolrs that they cant defend the target of 500 plus? or 2) whether he was over-confident of our bolrs that they can get the opposition out in lesser time available with them.

Its quite simple, he did not have anty confidence in our bolwers. Only Zaheer and Bhajji showeed consistent performance in the whole test series. Munaf was useless and Ishant seemed to be struggling in bowling against the wind. You really cannot give a sporting score to opposition when you are not confident with the bowlers.

confused people like you will never ever understand "cricket"....hope you know what cricket is all about and get some cricketing sense..
We are btw on a 9 match unbeaten run...wonder when that happened before....i guess no one was unhappy when India drew that Lords test 2 years back with just 1 wicket in hand and two sessions washed out due to rain....and no credit was given to Dhoni who bravely stuck it out at one end and denied England to bowl at the tailenders....i donno whether all those Dhoni bashers wud have still called this winning streak a coincidence if it had come under Dada....
Dravid did exactly what Dhoni had done but Dravid was criticised like anything. In fact Dravid is the most knowledgeable among the cricketers we come across and has lead from the front and won several one day as well ODI,s for India but the media was and is always against in the sense that his performance is never highlighted and in fact suppressed so that others can enjoy publicity for a long long time without any performance. Dravid was always consistent except for the period he was analysed by the media daily although other senior and junior players have failed miserably match after match but carried on due to favouritism. This is fact and one may chech it anywhere any time.

You know that was exactly the thought I had. But again what Dravid did in England did make some sense considering the batting form and wickets lost for so little run. But here in NZ, it was disaster. They could have tried and get lead close to 600 hundred and declare it the same evening.
If Dhoni was expecting 110 overs, why did he push the lead to 616 runs and wasted all that time?

It is OK to always push for a win and in retrospect there can be lot of comments. I however think that it was the right decision if taken purely professionally. The issue here was to win the series first and then the match. With the wicket getting better, it was necessary to bat the opposition out of any possible victory ( could be considered pessimistic but then cricket is not predictable). I think it was thouroughly professional way to go about it.

Media has to make hue and cry of anything.. This is their bread and butter. I would say its better to be safe than sorry. If we are 1-0 up, we dont need to take unnecessary risks that may damage chances of a series win

Heh! Dravid - the stupid goat looking captain - dont compare him with Dhoni! During Dravid's captainship I started hating cricket .... such a poor salesman of cricket!

Come out of Dravid u moron ..... Dravid was like a lap dog of Chappell, he was just a puppet and looked always tense and out of place while he was captain. While Dhoni is a great team man and a popular captain who inspires the team to bring out the best. Another difference is during Dada it was Dada's team, now during Dhoni it is his team, only during Dravid it was Chappell's team. We have forgotten captain Dravid very fast - dont remind us of those painful and irritating days - the worst days of Indian cricket!
Congratulations for winning the team India. Keept it up. Under Dhoni's captainship, we won most of the matches, except somes draws. This is also 50/50 and equal to winning the team. Regards,
We wishing you to grain more more winning in coming years. Regards.
[0 - Number of Tests India have lost under Dhoni. Out of seven Tests in which Dhoni has been captain, India have won five while two ended in draws. The only other draw was against England at Mohali last year.] -
How does rediff say that the only other draw under Dhoni's captaincy is at Mohali against England. What about the two drawn games against Australia at Bangalore and Delhi last year?
Also, rediff says Dhoni has captained 7 matches. It is wrong. It should be 9.
Australia series - 4 England series - 2 NZ series - 2 (Sehwag captained one match)
and not to forget the first ever match under his captaincy against SA through which India were able to draw the series.

Those 2 matches were captained by Anil Kumble. Delhi was his last test and Dhoni did not captain that team You should 1st get your stats right.

You have got your stats wrong as well. Dhoni has actually captained in 7 test matches only. The following are the statistics: 1. South Africa Series - 3rd Test at Kanpur - 11-13 April 2008 - India Won 2. Australia in India - 2nd Test at Mohali - 17-21 Oct 2008 - India Won 3. Australia in India - 4th Test at Nagpur - 6-10 Nov 2008 - India Won 4. England in India - 1st Test at Chennai - 11-15 Dec 2008 - India Won 5. England in India - 2nd Test at Mohali - 19-23 Dec 2008 - Match Drawn 6. India in New Zealand - 1st Test at Hamilton - 18-21 Mar 2009 - India Won 7. India in New Zealand - 3rd Match at Wellington - 3-7 Apr 2009 - Match Drawn.
Overall captaincy record: Captained - 7 Won - 5 Drawn - 2 Lost - 0

for the australian series, Kumble and not dhoni was the captin. Dhoni captained the 2nd and 4th match due to injury and subsequent retirment of kumble.

Against Australia Dhoni captained only two test matches . At Mohali and Nagpur . Not all 4 matches . Other two were captained by Anil Kumble
