Goutam Gambhir

Gambhir is always a very good player. He got very sound technique. He used to perform exceptionally in Ranji Games. He scored 200 runs against visiting Australian side way back in 2005 playing for Board President's XI. When first time he selected for the team he used to get out on his own. By flashing shots straight into the hands of fielders, utlimately he was dropped. When he got the second chance he realised the importance of staying at the wicket and became successfull. But till today look the way he was out in the first innings. Gambhir was never out Bold he always caught by somebody. He always tends to through his wicket away in one manner or the other. So we hope Gambhir will show more patience and score bundles of runs as he was doing right now.

We got Gambhir which is equally good as (even better than) Ganguly in ODIs.

Next wall in making...
by a r on Apr 06, 2009 11:48 AM

Gambhir has been fantastic in last couple of years, he has displayed tremendous commitment to the game and is highly consistent. He can learn a lot from the greats like Dravid, Sachin and Laxman. He is next wall in making.

Dravid has been consistantly doing the same for India for over an decade now. He is technically sound, calm, composed and has won/saved most of the test matches. When the entire team used to collapse he used to stand up to the occassion. His contribution to Indian cricket is tremendous. He will be counted among great likes Sachin, Kapil, Gavaskar, Bedi and others.

Test match is not about Slam-Bang approach, we have many exciting & talented players like Yuvraj Singh but he hardly made any impression at Test level. He lacks technique, patience and approach.

another gambhir wall
by vinay on Apr 06, 2009 12:20 AM  | Hide replies

it looks like another wall for ind.
but here its a wall with a combination of attacking strokeplay of sehwag style n solidity of wall dravid, embodied in one player viz. gambhir.
i think gambhir's innings in second test was the best when he had to perform under pressure to save the match by staying on the field for 2 days.

yes ur correct. Might be, we are bored of dravid. But his technics and contribution, we need to appreciate, and also shewag, he can murder any team. A composition of both, is great to Indian cricket.

Don't compare Gambhir with boring Dravid. Dravid can only play defensive and doesnot attack bowlers even if the situation demands so.

Alok,
It is inappropiate to make such a statement.
Dravid is one of the finest and greatest players of all time. FYI...he has one of the fastest 50 in ODI to his credit (20 odd balls).
Test cricket is not about attacking, it is Test of players' ability to play the game, whether he is a batsman, bowler or fielder.

Forget something done once in few years. How many sixes he hit in one dayers and what is his strike rate?

Rightly said. Gautam is the combo of Dravid and Sehwag. He is solid like Dravid as well as fast like Sehwag.

dravid is excellent player.Don't compare him with Gambhir.Gambhir is another excellent player in his place. But before Gambhir who was the wall for India till so many years?Dravid might have been out of form since last so many innings he has played. But he has also contributed several innings to india where india was in deep trouble. Can you forget Dravid? Never. He might be defensive. But i agree to Mr. Alok. He has been a quality player. Test cricket is all about testing a player's mental as well as physical state of mind. Dravid is a great combination of both.

Gambhir making the most of his oppurtunities..
by Naveen HS on Apr 05, 2009 07:54 PM  | Hide replies

He is the most committed player in the younger generation players..Now he is reaping the success of all his hard work..Yuvraj, Sehwag looks more talented than him yet lacks consistency like Gambhir in a big margin..this goes to show how much Gambhir has worked hard to attian where he is now..

Better to make him vice-captian to reward him for what he has done in last 25 matches.

After the one-day series, everyone was saying tht sehwag is the best batsman in the world..!

Look at his stats in this test series..
dont judge a player by his performance in a particular series or year..!!

Compare Gambhir with Dravid may be after 5-6 years..!
