Great Gambhir
by kishore tendolkar on Apr 06, 2009 04:03 PM

great going by gautam; first he established himself in 20/, then one day & now in test also. I have been watching sachin's career from the beginning; i do not remember even sachin had maintained such consistancy in any part of his career; Keep it up Gautam Gambhir.

Sachin should open for India and help youngsters
by jeevan on Apr 06, 2009 01:05 PM  | Hide replies

If sachin is truly the greatest batsman that he is, why he is not taking the new ball as an opener and let sehwag to become No:5 batsman. Sehwag coming to crease, when the bowlers are drained of their energy, by Gambhir, sachin(as opener), dravid,Badrinath( who should be given his due chance) will be a treat to watch and also it will help india much more..

Why are all suggestions to Sachin prefixed with 'If Sachin is truly great...'?
Jeevan how would you like if I suggested, 'If you are truly a man, you will realise you are not qualified to make suggestions to Sachin.' :)

hey joker!.. I am not making a suggestion to sachin on how to play a cricket shot.. I know i am not that qualified. I am asking why sachin himself did not opt to open the innings. SOme time back, dravid offered to open the innings.. why sachin is hesitating? Its just a silly question to your truly great sachin.. if u think u are a man, try answering this straight...

Top order batsman
by vijay M on Apr 06, 2009 11:39 AM  | Hide replies

Gambhir is good but I have to say it's much easier to score runs at the top of the order than batting at 5 or 6.
It's easier to pace your innings when you are an opener and usually less pressure as too many wickets(or no wickets) havent fallen.
Compare that to the middle order batsmen who always have to walk into a situation where 4 or 5 wickets have fallen and play according to the situation.
Usually you run out of partners at the other end, play with the tail enders or forced to play aggressively to score runs.
Usually, I feel the batsmen who have an average over 45 in the middle order is equivalent to 55 or more.
But the top order batsmen always have the luxury of making records as they have the best change of doing so.

though it creates an opportunity at the top order, it is difficult to fit into the role of an opening batsman...it was not long ago that India was struggling to find a good opening pair...in all these circumstances, Gauti has been good enough to grab that uncertain spot and has done it with great success...

The opener role is depends on test match or one day - In test series opener will plays the big role - one wicket falls will make a big difference - and in test series - the score card should atleast display 103/1 – to show the good start - with shows the importance of opener - gambir did his best
All the Best gambir

You need special skills as an opener. Its not as easy as you mention. Look at how many have failed to become good openers. Facing the shining new ball, that swings and seams at high speed is no joke. India had only Gavaskar who rose to great heights as an opener. Sehwag, is a wonder boy and will bat anywhere. But, traditional good openers have been veru few and far between. Gambhir has been a fantastic opener and a great addition to this successful team. He also values hiw wicket much more than Sehwag, so its wonderful for the team to have him blunt the attack before the Sachins and the Yuvis come in. Don't under-estimate the opener's role.

surely the best pair is sehwag and gambhir
by your Doctor on Apr 06, 2009 07:31 AM

This pair is better than other pairs of the world better than greenidge and haynes, better than gavaskar and chauhan. This pair wins matches and each player can score heavily, not like chauhan with 99 and gavaskar with centuries. gambhir has more than 200 and sehwag as 300 plus twice.

Plz dont compare the game of Gambhir with that of Sehwag. Both of them are highly gifted players albeit in different mould. When Veeru gets going the opposition is on their knees.Gambhir is a wonderful mix of aggression and calm.

another gambhir wall
by vinay on Apr 06, 2009 12:17 AM

it looks like another wall for ind.
but here its a wall with a combination of attacking strokeplay of sehwag style n solidity of wall dravid, embodied in one player viz. gambhir.
i think gambhir's innings in second test was the best when he had to perform under pressure to save the match by staying on the field for 2 days.

Vow...
by Sameer K on Apr 06, 2009 12:01 AM  | Hide replies

Vow vow... here is a 27 year old quoting "Since then I have not taken any inning casually because any inning I play for my country is very important and you just can't take your place for granted,", here is a man who knows his job and knows he cannot take his place for granted. So different from another leftie who always took his place for granted and for 10 years averaged less than 30 against the greatest bolwers of his time and yet remained in India's test side.

Its a welcome relief to have such youngsters in the Indian side. Finally India has produced a world class Test Cricket's southpaw !!!!!, who is equally effective in one dayers.

The left hander you are refering had the similar record in his first 25 tests matches. Infact he had one century extra than Gautam gambhir.

Its always good to say players performing so well in the center stage and around the world he is getting appreciation. But don't compare him with such a great player. Its still Gambhir start of a career, and you are comparing him with a legend.Where were u when Gambhir was shown the doors after the world cup for his dismal performance. The player u compared with Gambhir shook the base of the world cricket when India managed to reach the world cup final ,if you remember. He collected the beads form different corners and made a garland.
Just tell me how u people can be so disrespectful towards your legends?
