But there is a twist. If a team loses 6 or 7 wickets by the 45th over, then a block of powerplay is useless. Isn't it? It would be interesting to see whether the captains take this risk

Killing

I am sorry but the introduction of these rule will mean quicker death for the game of "cricket" which is already on the wane because of 20-20. I mean how can you introduce these asinine rules. What about reverse swing. will we ever get to see quality fast bowlers and batsmen who would cope with that kind of class bowling. the free hit rule and powerplay rule where the batting side will decide when to take the 3rd powerplay will make the game so lopsided in the favor of the batsman that it is going to be a killjoy. what about 60:40 equation between bat and ball. Cricket is and will remain good to watch if there is even contest betwen bat and ball. Bowlers should get equal chance to show there repetoire and it will not hurt cricket if batting sides are bundled for low score sometimes. At least we will get to see the skills of the bowlers as well. a score of 250 on grassy and bouncy track in gabba or kingsmead is any day better than making a stupid score 350 on a dust bowl in chennai.
As Allan Donald once said we might as well put a bowling machine and take vowlers away. cricket always had a charm because there was fear batsan could get hit be steaming bouncer or get a toe crusher. to watch fast bowlers nail down the batsman is an amazing sight. Does anyone remeber battles between, Donald & Atherton, tendulkar -mcgrath, Donald, lee, Akthar, Akram, Lara and these bowlers, Steve Waugh-Ambrose,Donald. my point is this made cricket fascinating.

you are talking abt one day rules with bat-ball competitiveness of test cricket in mind.
One day, 20-20 is to entertain. so do not burn yourself on this.
Test cricket is very much alive..and kicking.
As per my observations yester year test cricket was boring and showed less results than today. Iam enjoying it more.

true that even contest is better than scores of 350 or 400s scored by both the teams. these pitches or conditions make any gilli danda player as batsman.

But sorry to this is being killed by stupid administrators for lure of money pandering to sub continental audience that doesnt understand difference between guli-danda, cricket and baseball. These amendments in rules is starting of writing of obituary of cricket. The cricket that is fascinating because of even contest between bat and ball on good, hard, grassy wickets not some ludicrous 20 overs game that has everything but cricket.

Replace Bowlers with Bowling Machines
by Akshay Iyer on Sep 30, 2008 05:45 PM

With the ways laws are being made, you might as well replace bowlers with bowling machines and ask batsman to slog their way to glory. I am a huge cricket fan and i love close matches with even contests of bat and ball. No fun in seeing a match if batsman are biffing the ball everywhere. All this is done to get make the rich of the game richer and get more people to view the sport. Next we know the whole of 20/20 will be powerplays. ICC Sucks Big Time.

ya..but thr is a risk involved. I didnot calculate every option, but if a team leaves last 5 overs for pp, and get into a difficult poition, like losing too many wickets, the pp will be wasted. This isnt rubbish , u can take a pp when the 5th bowler has to complete his 10 overs, making things more interesting. Will be difficult for teams without good allrounders. England, RSA will be benefitted.

New ICC Rules

Good rules for the game. It will be strange to see how batting team is going to decide second or third power play???.
