Even if one chooses to discount his fielding skills, captaincy skills and the fact that he has won two world cups for his country, Ponting would be in the playing 11 of any team in the world for his batting skills alone.
He is a match-saver, a match-winner, he HIMSELF has rarely been involved with spats and dirty sledging (a little heat is always welcome).
Just cuz the Australians are generally regarded as dirty players, sledgers and whatnot, people are accusing Ponting of things he doesn't deserve.
A little respect, folks. Ponting is an asset to Australia. So much so, the moment India gets Ponting, aussies are on the backfoot instantaneously.

I am in dilemma...I am die hard fan of Sachin Tendulkar and I am a northie.....Shall I take permission from honourable Raj Thankre before admiring my favourite cricket player? I also wonder if Cricket fan from Maharshtra will stop appreciating Dhoni (for whatever limited success he has so far. I am also a huge fan of Lata mangeshkar...and list goes on....can anyone enlighten me?

Consider this: ZAheer says a few harmless words and referee fines him 80%. So, here we have Shane watson, and Katich abusing gambhir, and Clarke supporting them. Also, he stood in the way of a gambhir single. WHat if he had been runout?? It was refreshing to see NDTV(hindi) trashing the Aussies. These guys have slightest sportsman spirit...unlike Indians who always play in right spirit(incl bhajji,uthappa,sreesanth etc). Their aggresiion is only due to passion. While aussies intention is to harm. Life ban for Katich,watson etc are perfect

Sachin and Lata are diamonds! Their shine will not reduce even if you don't admire them. If you have so much trouble admiring them, better don't!
