Your criticism against Gavaskar is very harsh. Gavaskar is suffering from Foot in Mouth disease. Please have some sympathy for a sick man.

What Gavaskar meant was, the act of not punishing Ponting was racist on the part of the referee. This is not a discussion of whether the Indians are racist or not. Everybody is racist to some extent, but lets not mix with the actual point here and deviate.....

i am not deviating, here on this board everybody is supporting gavaskar and i am telling everyone that how racist our country is and gavaskar is the biggest indian racist in the indian media who is not a classy commentator like a richie benaud or an amusing(cheerful and good)one like a bill lawry but part of the indian cheerleading squad like nooneelse and is no different from our stupid, moronic jingoistic senseless indian media.

Well, no human being is perfect. I do not know if he is a racist, but he did say the truth and you have to appreciate him for that. He is the one who revolted against any kind of descrimination by the white cricketers first, however our board did not support him like they did in Gnaguly's case. You could say, he is the first aggressive captian India has got... He would have got upto the noses of Austrailians had the board supported him like Gnaguly did. And this is all the agression in sport and not racism........

Mr. Reddy,
If you have followed SMG's career, you would not have formed this opinion. These utterences by SMG are nothing but indulgence in cheap popularity. I don't know what you mean by "aggressive captain". Is it indulging in verbal abuses, or showing agression for winning the matches? If it is the latter, he was never aggressive either as a player or as captain. His main aim was reaching personal milestones. Given the option of scoring a century or winning a match, he gleefully prefers the first. He made the worst possible racist utterences against West Indian spectators, during his playing days. Coming to sportsmanship, Gavaskar should be the last person to be named in the list. If an unfavorable decision was given against him, he does not mind dragging out the non striker out of the ground, even if it amounts to surrendering the match. He would open the innings and score 36 n.o. and carry the bat in a 60 over ODI, if he is not made the Captain. Even after the match is called off as draw, he would not leave the crease till the opposition bowls the remaining mandatory overs and he completes his century. These are some of the characteristics that are possessed by the one and only SMG.

hi sreedhar, i do not agree to anything u have posted here or above and all of it that you have posted here or all of it that u have posted above is crass
sreedhar, now i really doubt that u r one eyed and a big racist urself
just follow gavaskar closely, he is a disgrace, a moron, he will always glorify everything non-white and put everything white down, good fellows like richie benaud and imran khan are all class, so are interesting fellows like bill lawry and ian chappell as well as gentle journos like mike coward and matt wade
i do not see anybody in r indian media who is not oneeyed and not racist, i follow sport for hours everyday and with the exception of the charming vijay amritraj, i solely despise our stupid indian media
ponting never abused sehwag, he was giggling
zaheer khan was spitting venom and was abusing
i have stopped supporting the indian team five yrs ago, their arrogance of the field and the overhype around them makes me feel nauseating and sick
sadly, the public in r country like our lousy media is oneeyed as well, and as expected they are supporting gavaskar
they are just blinded by what they see in our biased indian 'so called' media who are nothing but no news and cheap tabloid, i do not know if u have ever been abroad but if u do, then you would realize that our indian media is dustbin that project everything just to make themselves happy or google rohit brijnath who has been an nri for 8 years but the only india born journalist worth reading

Fine, do you appreciate the behaviour of Ausies? Aren't they sick, dont you read Peter Roebuck. He is not Indian, yet he did say how disgracefully ausies won the SCG match. I do not want to comment about the Media. I would only like to talk about the incidents that took place on the groud. If Zaheer has spit venom, he got the punishment. But, did Ponting get what he deserved. If you looking at only one perpective, that is with your undescribable hatred towards, Gavaskar and Indian Media, then you have to think about the word "one-eyed", whether it applies to you. You like commentators who are Mild spoken, doesn't mean that the other commentators are totally despisable. There may be people who are more outspoken and less tolerant. May be Gavaskar is one among them. It doesn't mean, that you despise him to the core and ignore the truth he said, just because its Gavaskar. Stop hating people and stop looking at people the way you want. Everybody is unique and they have their own ways of expressing things. There are many people who do not like Ganguly and Gavaskar, but dont forget there are many people who like their agression. Those people think differently. So stop spitting venom at people. As per the Indian media is concerned, there is nothing you could blame them. It will evolve slowly. Everybody knows it and right now they are just trying to make the buck, but soon there will be quality. If you really have watched carefully, there is a lot of improvement.

Ponting and Clark deserved to be fined if Zaheer is. All the three of them deserve it equally. Not about racism or reverse-racism. Just about fair game. Chill.

But Ponting conduct was not good enough for the game to let him off the hook.Yet the referee let him off.Zaheer got what he deserved, but the whites never get.I guess you are not looking purely at what happened in the game, instead you prefer to oppose the facts based on your notions about a single person....

Sunny is always there
by Govind Raj on Oct 23, 2008 10:43 AM

Gavaskar has always been vocal in his opposition to the biased Umpires and Match-Refrees. I think he is right most of the times.

Time and again we see the bias against Asian players, especially Indians. The reason is simply the white man's jealousy against Indians who now RULE the financial aspect of Cricket. This started when Dalmiya started flexing India's financial muscles. It is very unfortunate that India don't protest this step-motherly treatment.

Zillions of times obnoxious behaviour of Aussies and South Africans has gone scott free and even slightest slur can Sreesanth to be dumped and Zaheer fined.

In this series as well as any series, India almost suffer almost 80% of the bad decisions against them. Rahul Dravid has got at least 3 poor decisions against him in the last 7 Test innings he has played. But Chris Broad was bothered about the stumping of Ganguly which was not referred to third Umpire. The same man was NOT bothered when the Ponting catch during the first test was not referred to TV Umpire. On TV it looked like a Catch rather than Bump. Where was the Refree then?

India should protest strongly and demand justice. At least the Symonds and Bhajji episode was handled well I must say. But the Sydney test was soooooooo bad... Even today Saint Ponting says there was Nothing Wrong with that Win! Ha Ha Ha

Aussies have found it is tough to beat India ever since then ! Postic Justice Im must say :-)

Gavaskar is one man who knows what to speak, when and how... we indians might be improving on cricket.. but we certainly need to learn a bit of word game as well from the aussies which has played a big role in the recent years in their success.

Anybody who slams gavaskar shud see the behaviour of ricky ponting and his team.. they are one of the most rude people on the ground but nobody has the courage to speak against them coz aussies know how to target someone in word game, inside or outside the game.. very few people like gavaskar have the courage to speak the way he does... Well Done Mr Gavaskar.. people like you are teeth for indians to speak..well done...

Gavaskar vs Tendulkar...the final say
by sandeep kumar on Oct 23, 2008 10:25 AM  | Hide replies

Gavaskar comes out on top, becoz of following:
1.World cup winner.Sachin has none
2.Captained India to world series 85 win. Sachin failure as captain
3.100' against west indies quicks who were the best in their homeland. Also lille, thomson, imran etc. Sachin now plays against siddle, mortaza, arafat, broad and such b-grade bowlers
4. Many double hundreds against great attacks. Sachin's only scored 2 doubles Against minnows NZ and bangla(248)
5.Was the only batsman in squad. Others were yashpal, kirti azad and similar jokers.Hence more pressure. Sachin had the other Fab4 with him verru, yuvraj etc
6. Played according to situation in ODI's maintaining strike rates in 60's and not going defensive too much. Sachins ometimes too agressive and dismisses leaving India too much to do

Gavaskar the greatest of all time. Sachin best of 90's only.

when ICL approach BCCI...
by D S on Oct 23, 2008 07:33 AM  | Hide replies

ICL is sent by ICC to make a deal with BCCI. That way ICC can pressure BCCI. Now BCCI wants ICL banished instead of working with ICL. BCCI, IPL and ICL need to work together to build a seperate body for Asia-Africa that coordinates matches with ICC.

Gavaskar has always had the habit of diverting media attention to places which dont require any. When there is talk of juniors doing well, he comes out defending seniors. Now India have made such a great win. Now he is diverting attention towards negative stuff such as fine etc..so what yaar..lets enjoy the win...He should be focussing on whether Kumble deserves a place in the squad or not, should Dhoni continue as captain for the rest of the series etc..not this..

Why should Gavaskar focus on whether Kumble deserves the place or not. That is the selector's job, not his.
What makes you think you are more qualified than Gavaskar to comment on this. Do you know what it means to get fined 80% of your match fee plus a blot against the player's name.

by wibas wibas on Oct 23, 2008 01:54 AM

I was shocked to hear that Zaheer was fined 80% and I totally agree with Gavaskar. Why doesn't ICC arrange independent judiciary probe for all fines and try to come out clean?

Now ICC rules doesn't penalise sledging because we all know which team uses it as part of its game plan. So the rules are formed to protect them. It is time subcontinent raise its voice.
