Mr. Ponting remember the Sydney Test against India
by Himalay on Oct 26, 2008 03:56 PM

Mr. Ponting your worst test match was the Sydney Test match against the Indians where your whle team cheated & you lead the way by appealing for a one bounce catch.
That must be the worst Test match in the history of cricket, atleast in the bodyline sereis no one was appealing for one bounce catches.

Pointing is crying

This was not his worst but the best match.
He and his followers did not and could not do any sledging in this test. Which is is great for the game of Cricket.

Aussie media is racists
by Himalay on Oct 23, 2008 10:32 AM

The quality of the interview was good bcos of the quality of questions asked by the interviewer was good, there was no provocative or deliberatly insulting questions asked to rub salt into the wounds of the defeated aussie captain, unlike what Indians have to face from the aussie media, remember what Saurav Ganguly and Harbhajan had to undergo in Australia last summer. Aussies think it is their birth right to insult the coloured asians in particular.

Even if one chooses to discount his fielding skills, captaincy skills and the fact that he has won two world cups for his country, Ponting would be in the playing 1 of any team in the world for his batting skills alone.

He is a match-saver, a match-winner, he HIMSELF has rarely been involved with spats and dirty sledging (a little heat is always welcome).

Just cuz the Australians are generally regarded as dirty players, sledgers and whatnot, people are accusing Ponting of things he doesn't deserve.

A little respect, folks. Ponting is an asset to Australia. So much so, the moment India gets Ponting, aussies are on the backfoot instantaneously.

He is their dravid, mr. consistent, their sachin, the record breaker, their ganguly, captain material, their laxman, the stylist.

he is Australiaz Fab four. Some respect, guys.

It is true and I agree give credit where it is due, but I lost ALL respect or Aussies since sydney test! It was SO blatant cheating that WE should have abandoned the series and returned home!If the BCCI flexed its financial muscle so be it and GOOD FOR them! Not that i agree with every thing they do! One cant buy or demand respect Aussies, one has to work for it and EARN it and it takes a LONG time!

NO ROOM FOR COMPLACENCY
by damodaran mohan on Oct 22, 2008 08:41 PM  | Hide replies

Dhoni's men earned a well desrved historic win.It was a perfect team work of fab four and youngistan brigade.Dhoni excelled in his captaincy. However this win should not lull them into comlacency because the Aussies are not as bad as they looked. They can certainly make a comeback if the indians lower their guard. In the 3rd test with kumble certain to play in his favourate kotla pitch, they can try five bowlers combination with all three spinners playing.Either Laxman or Ganguly will have to sit out.India stands fairly good chance of clinching the series at delhi.

Ponting is not a strong leader!!
by Aparna Mehrotra on Oct 22, 2008 06:43 PM  | Hide replies

In the organization where i work, many of us executives were sent for a leadership programme...

In that programme, the traits of a strong leader were discussed...A strong leader is one who takes responsibility for team failure and never passes the buck...but also basks in the glory of success and hogs the limelight when the team does well..

Ponting has shown in the past that he is opposite to that....after the Ashes defeat in 2005, he became very defensive and blamed the whole team for the defeat instead of taking responsibility for it...and when he led Australia to WC wins in 2003 and 2007, he allowed the team to hog the limelight and chose to stay away from the spotlight, instead of grabbing centrestage attention from media and fans..

Now that is opposite to what a strong leader should be...isn't it??

Aparna,
Thane Mumbai

Cricket is different form corporate.
In an organizations, the more the experience, the better the skills. This is not always applied on cricket.
Cricket is a game of uncertainty, so someone has to shepherd the team, to save or to win.
You won’t see a fresher outperforming a team leader/manager (actually, it can happen, but you know, it’s corporate) but this happens every now and then in cricket.
Although, when we say team, it has work in team and a leader had to act accordingly to get the task done. And when team fails, leader has to look for the loose links and tighten them.

As far as Ponting’s leadership is concerned, he is doing gr8 by all means.

Among all situations involving team work certain leadership parameters are always common. Yoou may like to compare the list of traits mentioned by Colin Powel in one of his prsenatations. He has drawn from Army situations. It is not logical to say that cricketing leadership skills and management leadership skills are different. In every cricket match, management is very much involved. In any case, I am not keen on continuing discussion any further.

Ponting is much better than sachin
by richa xxx on Oct 22, 2008 04:31 PM  | Hide replies

when we concern about world cups: ponting is ofcourse better than sachin.

when we concern about batting average: again ponting is better.

better captain than sachin.

sachin is better than ponting in only number of runs, but wait for some time, ricky plays less matches than sachin.
