Aussies no more invincibles
by ganessin virappin on Oct 16, 2008 09:05 PM

Steve waugh period is golden era for Aussies. they had won any team in the world within 4 days(with the exception of very few matches). By the second day itself they will knock out the opponent into a hopeless position. Steve waugh zeroed out the boring draw for Test matches. They used to score at around 4 runs per over and put tremendous pressure on the opponent. Now it is the not the same team. They have lost match winners and captaincy of Ricky Ponting is not like Steve Waugh. Waugh is very aggressive, shrewd and dominating still calm and composed.

Aussies will very soon realise the demerits of their policy of removing seniors.

aus lost bangalore advantage

On day 3 ricky missed a tric by keeping very few slip fielders. If they had atleast 4 slip fielders the 8th wicket patnership would have been less than 30. Zaheer was pointing to lack of agression from aussies, which is true.
Kumble returned the favour on 4th evening when watson and haddin were batting. He put him self on when zaheer should have had got the ball from that end.
there are a very less instances of a side chasing 300 runs to victory on a final day, it was understadable that india went defensive. There was a rain threat also. pontings comments are just knee jerk reaction to zaheers.
over all a good start for the series. I personally feel the aussies lost the chance to counter the delhi advantage india has.

Guest, There are always ifs and buts. If Ponting had placed additional slip fielders, then Zaheer and Bhajji could have hit more boundaries in the cover region, if umpire had given Ponting out when there were atleast 2 close lbw shouts, then Aus would not made 430. If Gambhir had caught Katich early in the innings then Aus would not have scored 228. Stop talking like an olden days radio expert commentator.
