Yesterday, one TV channel had a discussion as to whether Kumble is unfit physically and also lacks ideas and motivation as captain and whether Dhoni is ready to take over test captaincy. May be there are / were similar reports and discussions elsewhere in the media.
Then there was a report that Kumble slammed media for interference and that he will retire when he thinks appropriate, on his own terms.
Large number of people are concerned with the work of public personalities like politicians, ministers, judiciary, burecrats, sportsmen, film actors etc. and ours being a democracy, freely air views, opinions and criticisms as they deem fit. One can object if the discussion relates to purely personal matters of celebrities.
But no one including the person reviewed or criticised should get upset and react angrily.
One has to understand that criticism is made when expectations are not met. Expectations arise because of the past performances and stature or present responsibilities given to a person. Thus criticism actually reflects a hidden regard or respect by the critic for the criticised.
When a celebrity fails to see this simple logic, what results is an angry or knee-jerk reaction as in the present case.

Well said, but if the critics just choose to harp on one little factor that Kumble went wicketless in one match so it's probably time to see him off, then it's every bit rational for Kumble to feel peeved and air his opinion as much as the critics do. In the same coin, it a hidden message to all critics that he still has the fire in his belly... and is willing to take up the challenge. All that we want is that our players return fire with fire when they take the field against Aussies; not to be bogged down by criticism that wastes their talent in trivial war of words.

disagree completely with you....if he was taking accolades with a smilie, he has to take the brickbats too... and the critisim is valid... his presence is a boulder in the neck for india going on... we have an ineffective bowler, a poor fielder and consequently its affecting his captaincy... he is not able to command respect except from the fab 3... Dhoni is the future... his thinking and skills were evident in the two hours of captaincy stint on the 4th day....
if a tripple century even at school level games can get u in the limelight n give u a berth for the intnl matches in tests like in case of sachin n kambli.
but here, a magnificent triple century, almost quadruple century, of 386 runs in ck naidu trophy scored by pujara. but no one seems to b interested. y its so biased.
just start one topic on sachin, saurav, dravid, either as their fans or haters. n see the msg board gets dumped with so many msgs either in support of or against these players. majority of them praising or blaming rubbish without any logic. is this is the purpose of this forum?

may b u r corect. but the first part abt the non-discussion of the rare feat by a youngster, is the reason for coming to the conclusion in second part of my post.

Dear Vinay, Tendulkar was not famous or picked for India for that 600 run partnership, at the age of 16, tendulkar had already played two seasons of ranji cricket scoring hundreds all the time.... Tendulkar had played Ranji form 87 onwards and made his debut in 89... the 600 run partnership is now more famous because of Tendulkar and Kambli playing for india.. at the time it was only a small news item in some local mumbai newspaper..
