I agree with Ricky 100 percent. The aussies are known to go for sporty declarations and spirited chases even when the chips are down. They play to win and so they have won more than any other test nation !! Is there any wonder that they are the no. one in the world? One look at their record will vindicate what I said.It saddens me to admit but the Indians have always played with the safety first attitude. They end up playing over cautiously, failing to save many a test!Remember, when you always play to win, you will at least save a test if a win isn't possible.Negativity brings only negative results!!

I don't blame Ricky at all. The declaration was fine. The total was exciting enough for a chasing team.
Our captains should look at their records first. We have seen Dada many times. We have seen Kumble in Pak series how late he declared to close out any chance of exciting chase. Dravid was the most risk-averse captain in the history of cricket after Gavaskar.
Btw, Zaheer is just playing his assigned role of making some strong statements to ruffle Aussies. It's all part of the strategy.

I dont think that the Indians have much choice... had India gone for a victory and lost by even a small margin this same public would not have considered that they had gone fighting down...the only thing that would have mattered was that WE lost the match... Australins are brave enough to take chances to lose match because their media and public are more considerate than us... so i think India did well to hang on for a draw... and anyway Australia did not play any aggressive cricket either...I can't remember an Australian team playing 5 sessions and scoring only 430 runs...

You dont get the Border-Gavaskar trophy winning one match, It is the series score that counts. It is better to go 0-0 then going 0-1 down, in the next match, Also want to extend support to ganguly and his tactics, I should call it Gamesmanship in austrialian language. He did what ever it took in the rules of the game to make sure it was a draw. WELL DONE.
Hi i've one doubt.... Did Dhoni lead our Indian test team any time.. for full test match..?? If so when and against which country? Can any body reply pls...

Against pakistan or SA this year only.India won that match. He got this oppertunity becoz kumble was injured, bas wohi ek match. But in future he should not be the captian ofindian test team,he looks hopeless while batting in test matches. He seriously needs to improve his batting abilties and techniques to cement his place in test team. karthik and parthiv patel re better option as a wicketkeeper batsman in test matches.Dhoni shuld concentrate only in onedayers nd T20, he is far away from being a gud test match player. In future i think shewag shuld be the captian of indian test sqaud. What do u think guys.....
i was surprised when everybody claimed that pontings decision was a sporting one - leaving india more around 300 in less than a day with a required run rate of around 4.
If you notice for the enrire match (even in the first day) the run rate did not exceed 3. If you notice australias first innings scores over recent times they would be scoring close to 4 runs per over.
so what in effect the australians are saying is go for the win and lose the match
This is by far the most defensive Aussie performance I have seen recently. Ponting made sure that his record is set right in India - otherwise his normal approach on a first day wicket would have been different. When the aussies cannot score 300 on a full day that too on the first day wicket, how the hell can India score 299 in less than a day - that too on 5th day worn wicket. Ponting - display some common sense in blowing your famous aussie mind game. You are better than this man!
over the past 24 hrs there has been much debate that india shud have gone for a win... can ppl on the forum post instances where a team has chased 300 odd runs on a fifth day..

Just recall the tied match between India-Australia when Sunil Gawaskar 90 and Ravi shastri TON made dream chase to equalise the target of 347 in 90 overs on the last day. They were allout in the last over with a ball in spare. This test match was played in CHENNAI in 1985-86 i think(not sure about year).
I would rather say, India is the only team trying to force a draw! Why not take up the challenge and try to Win it for India? Tendulkar's (for that matter, the Indian media's too)focus is on breaking Lara's record than winning a thriller for India.... Not even a Try!! After all, what makes a differance between a draw and loss, when you can't Win?? Indians need a Brave heart in the Team now... Very much disappointed for this negative play. We just can't accept it any more!! - Sailesh
