Re: y saurav is called dada?
by Indian Sadhu on Oct 12, 2008 07:26 PM
No because in Bengal, and amongst Bengalis, Dada is an honourable way of referring to your elder brother.
Ganguly has always back tracked from statements. In 2004 in Australia after winning 2nd test due to the double century and a fifty by dravid, Ganguly had claimed yes we are the number 2 side in the world and if we win this series we will win. India had not even won a series in Zimbabwe or WI at that time leave aside Australia, WI, England etc., and this guy after winning a test claimed India will become number won if they win just one series abroad.
Anyways 2 days later Greg Chappel in his article wrote, how Australia had won consistently for 5 years against each and every opponent at home and abroad except a series win in India and that if some captain feels that winning one test and series in Australia makes them number one, then best of lucks to that team.
Ganguly back tracked quickly after reading this article and wrote in his next column that i was mistaken, Australia are still the number one and will remain the number one even if they lose this series, what i wanted to say is that Australia has gr8 cricketers and most of them have crossed 30 and are on the verge of retirement, it will be difficult 2 find replacements 4 such gr8 cricketers. What Ganguly meant in this article was humiliation to his team members, because he indirectly said that with McGrath, Warne, Hayden, martyn etc in the side India cannot replace them, indian team can only become number one after these greats retire and australia struggle to find replacements, LOL this guy is called gr8 by bengalis.

Also the strange thing about Ganguly saying he hasnt given any such interview is, he reported to media after Vengsarkars interview, that he hasnt given any such interview after the former Chairman of selectors replied, he will give fitting answers and more to Ganguly after the series and Ganguly immediately back tracks the next day.
This interview appeared 2 days prior to Vengsarkar replying to Gangulys accusation and Ganguly in those 2 days didnt say all this was false. It clearly shows Gangulys back tracking after realising he is caught in a tangle.
Then there was in 2003 WC when Ganguly was opening and not scoring runs since long time, i mean even in previous series too Ganguly didnt score, and media asked him after India crawled to victory against Netherland and Ganguly while opening again had failed and Ganguly argued in front of media when they questioned shouldnt he move down the order and get Sachin to open, Ganguly argued as why he should go down the order as he had scored majority of his runs while opening. Ganguly even forgot then that sachin had scored more runs and hundreds while opening and India lost 2nd match against Australia and Ganguly flopped again and was forced to send Sachin to open in 3rd match where Sachin Scored and India Won and then when media asked him about Sachin, Ganguly said, that Sachin was the only player in the indian team who has scored more runs and hundreds in one dayers than him.

Ganguly has said whatever he wanted to say and then like a clever politician he has denied that too. He has done reasonably well in the first inning of the first test and will be difficult to drop. So far as penalising him is cocerned, no penalty can be inflicted unless he is proved guilty and the Bengali newspaper will never provide evidence against their hero. If BCCI still tries to victimise Ganguly on the contract front, he will happily join ICL who will get a big boost by his joining and will more than compensate him. At the same time that will sound the death knell for IPL in Kolkata, one of the most important cricket centres. It is Catch 22 situation for the BCCI.

Eden Gardens one of the most important cricket centres for Stopping cricket matches, supporting oppositions, throwing things on players on the field etc.
The most important cricket centre got only 1 match in the past 3 years due to their being most important for the above mentioned things....

Lol, as expected, all bong bong Ganguli's who are regionally biased, we Indians know cause we saw India v/s SA at Eden Gardens in 2005 and saw who was regionally biased and supporting SA.

And all ppl like you hv no idea how to write a msg without resorting to name calling and biased opinions. If you have the ability to do so, why don't you engage in a healthy debate?
Like him or not, he has been there for more than a decade...and not all can be attributed to things outside the field. He has his strength and weaknesses, has done some mistakes, but as an Indian..i too feel bad ,the way he has been treated.....Partly, he too is responsible, lets not get into details. But much has been because of the disgusting politics inside the BCCI itself. Who has no plan whatsoever for its players. Lets wish DADA a very good luck for all his future endeavors... May be he is planning to jump into cricket politics..who knows, but being a player himself, the least we can expect from him , is he will do the best,in his possible hands, for the betterment of cricket, and not lure into any revenge game, from the existing board members or his existing team mates.
Ganguli almost invited a retaliation from the previous selectors. His statements were in media and very well on record. Now Vengsarkar has very maturedly said that he will reply to Gangulis publc out burst after the series. This way he will not dampen Ganguli's moral and would not affect the dressing room atmosphere. Well done Vengsarkar.
As I summarize from Bengali newspaper Ananda Bazar Patrika: Saurav has a real buddy relationship with many journalists of Bengali newspapers as he is playing for more than a decade. In the moment of pain, he opened his heart to them, but after that, he requested them not to print them. All Bengali newspapers obliged him as everyone felt his pain. For some reason, Aajkaal printed the conversation verbatim. I think Aajkaal broke the trust. It's not entirely Ganguly's fault.
Also, whole Friday evening and night Ganguly was fighting and talking to selectors, BCCI and team management to do a damage control. He was threatened that if he does not do that, he won't be selected in 2nd test also. Whole night, the drama went on until early morning. Barely after a few minutes the prepared statement was conveyed to press, Ganguly went to bat and saved India's follow on. He got an injury in his teeth and that cost him his concentration and wicket.
Those who are finding politics in the entire episode, this is for them. In the end, Aajkaal has behaved irresponsibly.

ohh poor baby Ganguly, he got injury in his teeth and lost his concentration and wicket.
I am sure Tedulya got injury in his eye. Dravid got inhury in his feet. Sehwag and Gambhir also got injury and Laxman got injury in his butt.
Only two didn't get injuries were Harbhajan and Khan..

Typical Comments from Gautam De... Who else do you prey desides Ganguly and Maa Durga??

oh I see, now I understand.
I bet Zaheer and Narbhajan played because ganguly is in the team. Australia would have scored over 600, but they all got out because Ganguly was in Indian team. Ganguly demoralized Ponting and Ponting got out soon, otherwise Ponting would have scored well over 200 runs.
Ohh Australia would not have come to India if they had known Ganguly was going to be in Indian team. They only came because they thought Ganguly would be dropped and they can win now in India.. hehehe

How much are you pitching in for an ordinary player leaking averaging just above 40 in tests. Venom there in mind is proved now beyond doubt.
Do Indian young players deserving get some sympathy by those papers as he denies their opprtunity?

Gautam De would certainly hope Ganguly plays till he is 79 years old. Who cares about other telented players in India, Ganguly has to be in the team..
