He was good test player but an excellent ODI batsman, his test average is far below the likes of tendulkar or dravid. His struggle in test matches against top teams was always there. Except for a century against Aussies in Brisbane he has not made any significant contributions against them. But as a captain he was a stalwart no second thoughts about that. Inspite of being a leading run scorer last season. it all came against poor bowling attack of pakistan & lesser teams that too in home conditions.

WHY COULD THE OTHER PLAYERS NOT BECOME THE LEADING RUN SCORER IF HE BOWLING WAS POOR???

What he did was absolutely correct.......Why he would be scapegoat always......
No other captain has answered the forieners in their own language but Saurav had that ability & he did that so many time. After departure of Md. Azaruddin Saurav has rebuild the India Cricket Team & taught them how to win matches. He had fight till the last ball for the win & one can't forget the Netwest series & the win over England in the final & also 2003 World Cup where we just miss the our 2nd world cup. Saurav Ganguly is one of my best cricketers but as a captain he is the best ever for me

These are either solo or sizable resistances while loosing others have not contrubeted enough so we lost. He scores when others soften balling by their pounding. Then the vulture comes to grab the kill
