Yes, Warne is being professional in his approach
by rajan on Oct 07, 2008 02:20 AM

Yes, Warne is giving his honest and professional opinion. We should respect him for his professional approach. Other indian greats like Dravid, Ganguly started 7 years after him, and followed Sachin's footsteps (as being younger to both of them he was 7 years senior to them). And before them he was the lone warrior, from 1992-1997 Indian team was called One man team. People tend to forget very easily. Number of runs, and averages can not give true figures, because the way he handled pressure for being one-man team, is like having sleepless nights to perform to the expectations of billion people. Pressure of expection is really a killer, and we know the other younger lots like Irfan Pathan, Parthiv Patel etc. etc. couldn't keep up relatively small pressure at young ages, and now they are not regulars in the indian team. That is the reason why Warne puts Sachin very high i.e. always performing under huge expectations and that too at a very young age and never getting dropped at that young age like his friend Kambli or others like Irfan Pathan, Parthiv Patel etc. We should learn from him.

by thengazhikam mamen on Oct 06, 2008 02:56 PM

Thank you very much for your views and appreciate Sachin to have more matches to be played in the coming years. Aslo Wish him Best of Luck to overcome the Brain Lara's record in the forthcoming test matches with Australia.

But one thing I would like to remind you that why you have forgotten Mr. Sunil Gavaskar in your list of players.

Is Sachin, the greatest in Contemporary Cricket?
by Duniya Badlega on Oct 06, 2008 01:02 PM  | Hide replies

Lets compare Sachin(arguably the best in Business) against Two other contemporary greats i.e. Ponting & Lara

Sachin Ponting Lara
No of Tests 150 119 131
Avg 54.33 58.34 52.88
Centuries 39 35 34
Centuries excl
Minnows 35 34 33
Winning Tests 47 53 32
% Win 31.33% 44.5% 24.4%
Avg in Win Test 62.11 65.67 61.02
Centuries in Win
tests 13 15 8
% 33.3% 42.9% 23.5%
ODIs
Nos Played 417 301 299
Avg 44.33 43.24 40.48
Centuries 42 26 19
Less Minnows 33 23 17
ODIs won 206 216 139
% Win 49.4% 71.8% 46.5%
Centuries in
Win ODIs 30 22 16
% Cent in win
ODIs 71.4% 84.6% 84.2%

Sachin & Lara are comparable. Lara probabbly represented a very weak team.
Ponting scores above these two.
No doubt cricket is a team game. Is Sachin a lone warrior? Was not Dravid, Ganguli there?

Dravid, Ganguly started 7 years after him. Ans before them he was the lone warrior, from 1992-1997 Indian team was called One man team. People tend to forget very easily. the real charisma
by aneesh on Oct 06, 2008 11:39 AM

leave behind all the records and runs and centuries and everythin, our young players has to idealise sachin for one simple reason, his discipline in the field and also the way he carries himself.........all are telling that sachins best is past, but just remember bout the test series and one day series he had in austrailian soil at starting of this year, it was vintage sachin.undoubtedly he was in his best that series.....so please dnt put him under extra pressure.just watch him play as much as we can, coz after he retires we will be craving to c a superb player like him in action....

This list was published last year and was much publicised.

Rediff just keeps on publishing old news. Bad journalism.

no, last year warnie published top 50 in times and this year it is a different top 100 in his book
the top are not the same though there is no doubt that rediff prints old news and keeps doing just the cut and paste job almost all times and this top 100 news was out in oz ages ago.

Youngsters giving them a chance
by hitesh sharma on Oct 06, 2008 09:24 AM  | Hide replies

New blood will have to make their own way..... The new blood should make Sachin look like ordinary with their gusto then no one will keep sachin....
There was no free lunch for Sachin and there should be no free lunch for the youngsters....

The youngsters are not cementing their place when they get oppurtunities.... Recollect when Sachin was young he cemented his place...

He should not be forced to retire.... there is still lots of cricket in him.... Lets enjoy that

YEs. Tendulkar is God of Cricket. But God should be put in his place and should not play in the field. the youngsters should submit 75% of their fees and endorsements to sachin the god and make him stay in his home.
