Why?
by Yogaguru on Oct 03, 2008 10:55 PM

Why some people are so much against Ganguly?
There is no reason. They are not against Dravid or Sachin.
This speaks of bias.
May be Ganguly's personality is so overpowering that these guys are clueless.
They repeat the same old statistics and faulty logic and Saurav stays plays and comes back.
This is like a communal bias. One finds fault with the other however good he may be only because he does not belong to his religion. So is with Ganguly.
It is bad that he hails from Bengal. No Bengal has ever played such a long stint.
At the back of their mind these idiots try to block the entry of talent to keep their clan only playing the game or doing whatever good things.
Idiots come back to your senses. Salute the guy for the goods he has done for Indian cricket. Dont cry like parrots of your fathers More and Chappel. They go but Ganguly stays.

As usual, Ganguly has become the subject of debate by lakhs of cricket-lover! He always comes in front when everybody tried to write him off! This is his fantastic and powerful characteristics that he returns despite all odds, criticism against him! You may not like or, love him! But please, for heaven's sake, dont abuse him! Please remember he was once the Captain of the national team and his record as Captain is so far the best.

Have u taken into consideration the quality of team that both of them got. Do you somehow remember the quality of Indian team in late 90's and early 2000. And the can you please post these statistics. Also do you remember in 90s the way we fly overseas and get beaten by anybody and did not win a single match in many series and it all changed with Ganguly. Or do you remember all these statewise politics in 90s.Statistics are just numbers. If Statistics is the way to go, then you might not have Kapil Dev anywhere near most of the captains but you should know he ie better than many others.

These are either solo or sizable resistances while loosing others have not contrubeted enough so we lost. See Mediocre Ganguly there not there at all.

He scores when others soften balling by their pounding. Then the vulture comes to grab the kill

Then why Saurav at bottom ?
Sehwag matches played 60 still going strong
Saurav matches played 109

Lone fifties seldom win matches as it need strong support from others batsman and bowlers. That is why I gave tons hundreds records to rate these batsman. But some skeptics said this player won match by his fifty

This is what happens when mediocre quota player is sekected. This midget can not be compared with Sachin Dravid Sehwag. Many youngsters suffer because he blocks place from mediocre quota.

Also look at the 50's that helped India win/draw a test match. You can find so many then. Coming at no 5 or 6 and playing with tail enders there is hardly any chance to score hundreds. Don't put biased pictures. Put the complete one. Also remember that only recently we have got a good wicketkeeper batsman in Dhoni. Earlier Ganguly and Laxman had to play with people who could hardly give them support.

Everyone knows Ganguly's mediocre performance
by Sameer K on Oct 02, 2008 11:13 PM  | Hide replies

As appeared in guardian UK

==================
Picture this. The previous selection panel decides to break with the past and look to the future. With that and the middle-order meltdown against Sri Lanka in mind, they don't consider Sourav Ganguly for the Irani Trophy, the opening match of India's domestic season. When he's subsequently ignored for the Board President's XI, Australia's final tune-up before the first Test, the writing on the wall appears indelible. Surely no one in their right mind would select someone who hasn't struck a ball in anger since ending the Sri Lanka tour with 96 runs in three Tests?

This isn't about whether Ganguly deserves to be picked ahead of the many young bucks that have flattered to deceive; it's about the sheer idiocy of gambling on someone with no match practice. The opposition isn't Zimbabwe or Bangladesh. For all the chinks in the current Australian armour – the lack of a quality spinner being as prominent as Frank Bruno's glass chin – they are by some distance the most accomplished cricket side in the world. Ganguly's record against them has never been better than mediocre, and by denying him valuable match practice in the build-up to the Test, the powers that be have regressed to mystical-India methods, where the power of prayer and hope take precedence over rational thought and logic.
=====================================

Well its not just Australia that Ganguly's performance has been ordinary, against SA, WI, Pak, in NZ an

India's top tons for winning causes in Test cricket
India won 38 tests since 1996
Sachin 13 tons contributed to win.
Dravid 9 tons contributed to win
Laxman 4 tons contributed to win
Sehwag 3 tons contributed to win
and the last Saurav 3 tons contributed to win 2 Zim and one Eng.

Even in those 3 victories, Sachin, Dravid, Laxman scored more than Ganguly. Ganguly came into bat when India were already in commanding position, he is a batsmen who makes hay while the sun shines, but only against weak teams or depleted bowling attacks.

Never seen a bigger fool than u Abhi S.

I never wrote West Inddies in West Indies, i wrote against WI gangubai averages 32, LOL.

Ha ha ha, very smartly u hv not written Australia, South Africa, West Indies.

You hv not mentioned that Ganguly's average in Zimbabwe is 32, u hv not mentioned Gangulys average in NZ in 27.

Further u dont know that Ganguly's avg of 47 against Pakistan is due to his 2 hundreds against Pakistan against the most depleted attack and most flat pitches of Kolkata and Bangalore even great Wasim Jaffer scored double hundred against that attack and Irfan Pathan Scored 148.

Ganguly is the only great batsmen who has never scored a 100 against the greatest bowlers of his time, McGrath, Warne, Ambrose, Walsh, Donald, Pollock, Akram and Waqar. If you count the number of test he played against the above mentioned bowlers, his average will be pathetic 25 something to be called gr8 batsmen.

His only 100 against Australia was when Australia were without the services of McGrath, Warne, Lee missing the first test, the bowlers were Bracken, Andy Bichel, injured Gillespie who wasnt supposed to play.

Gr8 batsmen of flat indian pitches against Zinbabwe, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and England, England the side which was the worst along with Zimbabwe in the 1990s, Australia use to thrash them, WI did same, and they couldnt even win against Pakistan.

one more talented player
by vinay on Oct 02, 2008 10:29 PM

one more talented player seems to be sidelined coz of politics.

its cheteshwar pujara, the man of the series of the junior world cup for highest run-getter. n scoring consistently for the a-tours n in domestic season thereafter.
reason - another player may b jaydev shah, son of niranjan shah (not to take credit away but) is being promoted in his place. jaydev also looks good.

but cheteshwar pujara appears to be in the league of youngsters like rohit, raina, manoj tiwari, n looks ind probable at intnl level. his single handed match saving inning on the last day for his team is a true show of his talent.
but cheteshwar is not even selected for the a-team xi now although he is in the team of 15. how can he show his talent then.

any comments plz...
