Kanpur farce: Umpires hit back
by Anand YNI on Nov 24, 2008 08:04 AM

The whole rules are a farce. Today most of the stadia are provided with flood lights. Why not switch on the lights be it the test or the ODI and continue the game till the end?

Where there is will there is way. The rules need to be changed that's all.

Thanks

Is there a media ploy to gain sympathetic points to oppositions we thrash!
by gopal krishna on Nov 23, 2008 10:19 AM  | Hide replies

The aussies accepted tail between legs, the pommies cried about lights

both have further grouses aired quite after the game is gone. IMHO its the media who's making these mountains to further a dialouge in readers/viewers mind to get a further indulgence into the game.

in reality the teams are all sportsmen who learnt hard of winning & loosing - taking a pot on retired sportsmen donning careers behind camera's or the gentlemen conducting the game is a mere issue extending gimmick of the media.

Duckworth-Lewis method and the umpires.
by raman govindan on Nov 23, 2008 07:26 AM  | Hide replies

if England had won, they would not have complained and India would have. England knows the implications of Duckworth-Lewis method. why complain later after losing. the should have done when the matches late.

The Pomms have so easily forgotten how they defeated South Africa in 1992 world cup ..
Courtesy D/L system ...

Get your facts right! We saw an unfortunate event due to ABSENCE OF D/L system. The rules used in 1991 (and not 1992. there was a gap of 5 and not 4 years between the two World Cups (5th and 6th WC) due to financial difficulties) were different and D/L method was developed as a result of that incident.
Anyway I think D/L is a fairest possible method of calculating target score.

The most imp. thing the umpires did not forsee is that the light starts fading at 4pm & by 4.45 it is alreay dark. There was no way the match could have gone on till 5.07pm as stated by the umpires. It was a gross miscalculation & they themselves are to blame for it.

I agree with your point. That's why the media and Ex-players are blaming the Match officials.
