dude he has earned this reputation becoz he has done the hard yards and served the country for 18 yrs. He is not like most of our young guns, like yuvi who is erratic and inconsistent. If any cricketer reaches his level even they will be treated specially. Special talent needs special care. He has never been adament about opening the batting. The whole world knows that he was asked to play in the middle order by ganguly and he agreed to it even though he did'nt like it as he always puts the team ahead of self but just prior to the world cup in 2003 john wright asked sachin what he wants for himself and asked him to forget the team's expectations, It was only then that sachin told he was best suited in odi cricket to open and it makes a lot of sense becoz he is our best player and you have to give him more time and in doing so you keep him in the game from ball 1 and hence your chances of winning are more. I wonder why people question everything about sachin, if he wants to open then people say he is selfish, it does'nt make sense becoz he is the best opening batsmen in odi cricket ever and he has done enough to prove that. You told that he wants to play odi's to be in the news, are you serious! anything that sachin does makes news. And you said that he does'nt bring any worth to the side, what is so worthy about suresh raina and rohit sharma, what aspect do they bring to this indian team that sachin does'nt.

go and read today's times of india cricket news and you see the same feelings echoed there, that sachin wants to be an opener. no hard feelings dude, although i agree with u on some points. all i can say is that i can give thousand examples, where he has been given ample chances, while some youngsters are just kicked out even with 1 or 2 chances(coz resting him is better than dropping him). i can guarantee that he would have faltered in srilanka odi series had he played, luckily he did not play and took rest and then he comes back against a junk country like england score a 50 and live in the team for another 50 matches. i also know history coz i am watching cricket for 25 years as well. he is a legend,no doubt about it, but no one is above the game itself. i am not biased and i am not writing to impress anyone, it is just my observations.

to all those who say sachin is not a match-winner
by varun on Nov 22, 2008 12:02 AM

sachin has often been criticised of playing for records rather than the team which is foolish becoz every single run he has ever scored counts for the team also. It's a myth that has somehow caught on people's mind. Here are some stats about sachin in matches india has won
M-206 runs-9878 100-30 50-67 avg-58.78 sr-89.28
if he is not a match winner who is?

Sachin's In' n out
by fellowgoodie on Nov 21, 2008 09:30 PM  | Hide replies

No I am not talking about the In' n' out burger chains that we see in every other corner. I am talking about the entry and exit by him every 6 or 8 months in ODI's at his wish. He is very confident man, because he just walks in ODI's.
First, let us see if there is any value addition. I mean Dhoni has managed to superbly win the srilanka series with out him and are already up in this series. So I am not sure what more value he can bring.
Now the downside? Gambhir and sehwag are already smash hit opening pair who are doing exceptionally well. They are giving solid starts in almost every other match. Now sachin's entry will to have to disturb that, because of Sachin's adamancy to open in ODI's(well, his verbal duels with ganguly when he was captain to open is well documented). After days, he needs rest and again sehwag or Gambhir will have to come into the opening groove. Not sure why he insists on opening in ODI's. I wonder when people will learn to put the country ahead of themselves. He has already achieved everything in ODI's, and what more he wants to achieve. The problem is if he just plays test cricket, it is not attractive, because test cricket is fading light and that might hurt his contracts. So playing world cup which is 2 years away from now is a good excuse to keep him in the news for quite long.
Good going Sachin, well done.

Well...if he is miss using the system..then the BCCI should be blamed..if they think sachin is resting himself to prolong his career..I am sure he must be dropped by now or given some signal..I think they wanted sachin in the team. Dhoni wanted him as well..Definetly India is gooing through a good face..but when the tuff time comes thats when u need player like him..may be he is expired..I don't think so..it is really hartening to think that people write aginst him..well in that case..I am made to think..may be he is not impressive anymore.

Mr Nathan somas, how long have you been watching cricket? the whole world knows that who is sachin tendulkar? and how he plays? he had been proving it eevery time he has been asked for. and if Sachin is not impressive then which other batsman is more impressive than tendulkar. dhoni, yuvraj, laxman, sehwag etc etc. legend remains a legend for a lifetime, no one can replace him. we should be proud to have a Master batsman like Sachin, which no country had before and will never have in future.

I don't know he might retire from ODI soon..if the younger players keep playing like this and concentrate more in Test. Please and please for all..I don't think sachin ever plays for money..he must have already tons of money...right now it is better to be out than in the team..there are many T20 competions..where he can make tons of money..he always said he didn't want to play t20 it is youngsters game..

It is proven..he is the better one day opening batsman than everyone in the world. He has the better average than anyone who opened in ODI's in more than 55 games..he has the world record in 100s..he has the world record MOM awards..so you sluggers can't say that he doesn't win enough games..so why the hell do you think the MOM is given..his strike rate 87 with his average....un imaginable. people who has better strike rate than him..are average near 30s..what happened when he was not opening the innings in Worldcup 2007...that's when India was kicked out of the world cup...

but I 100% agree that right now the Indian team is perfect with opening Shewag and Gambir..and Sachin should come lower down..no question on that..but don't say that he is not a good player..don't say he is playing for money..It hurts me man....I don't know how your Indian hearts are made of..to think in such a way..you guys have no hearts no feeling..no patriotism..should be shamed of yourselves..

sachin can anytime walkin anytime even in worldX1 let alone indian team.

but agree...he should not disturb the inform opening pair..atleast on indian wickets...

would have been better had he rested the entire ODI...and brought himself back for more important uself tough matches ahead..

I think it is extremely unfair to drop someone without giving him a single opportunity to play. Sachin could have been included in place of Suresh Raina or Rohit Sharma.

INCLUSION OF SACHIN AND IRFAN
by jacob gosh on Nov 21, 2008 08:40 PM

return of sachin to the team is expected because he is a legend. but return of irfan is astonishing. eventhough he is performing well in domestic cricket, his attitude is very bad.four days back only he was punished full match fee for dangerously throwing ball at a fellow player. by calling him back cricket board itself encouraging indescipline which in turn spoilthis gentlemans game.
