Negative Bowling
by Raghavan on Nov 11, 2008 10:50 AM

Why accuse India of negative bowling, by bowling outside the off stump. What do you call the bowling Australia did in this very series, to get the wickets of Sehwag, Dravid, Tendulkar etc. Many occasions, they got the wickets to wide ball out side the off stump - may be 7th stump!!!
Recall the tactics followed by England in their last tour of India. Asley Giles was continuously bowling outside the leg stumps - very wide. At least India bowled on the off, so the batsman can reach with difficulty. England bowled wide on the lag, no batsman can even reach.
Now decide what is negative in India's approach!

India requires maturity
by Satyajit Vithal Warty on Nov 10, 2008 06:17 PM  | Hide replies

India won the series 2-0. With better fielding and catching it could well have been 4-0. Australia could have easily drawn the Nagpur Test, instead they decided to try and level the series resulting in rash loss of wickets.

India dropped too many important catches. Dhoni should have had 3 slips when the ball was swinging. Tendulkar's rash dash was a repeat of Adelaide and highlights a career long failure in the second innings of test cricket. Ganguly and Laxman both played poor shots. Dravid fell asleep when he quit the captaincy and has not woken up since.

India has the capability to be a super power in Test cricket. To achieve supremacy India must mature mentally and commercially as a cricketing nation.

Cricket is not a Bollywood song and dance.

I disagree with the guys who credit Dhoni for the so called sudden attacking outlook of the Indian team. Captaincy is 90 % luck and 10% acumen as said by someone(dont remember). If Kumble had been captain in the previous session then all the critics would have had their knives out. Now that a fortunate collapse of the Aussie batting order and all praise is for Dhoni. The truth is all captains have a certain shelf life after which they have to give way. Clearly it is Dhoni's time for captaincy now :)"

If England players can bowl defensively to Sachin to get him out, If Pointing can lie on a catch to win a test then why not Dhoni????

In Nagpur test we have seen only 5000 people were watching who are mostly ellite class .Am admi is deserting the stand slowly .Cricket is getting killed by BCCI,ICC .I am sure IPL cricket also will not attract more spectators .If Dhoni says that winning is matter by this negative tactic then days are not far when these cricketers under BCCI and ICC will play DANDA GULLY cricket in front of some kites ,crows and street dogs .ICL is doing fantastic cricket tournament under Kapil Dev with daily 50000 people watching at Ahmedabad .Sorry Dhoni I am fully agreed with the opinion of one time great captain Ian Chappel .This is not cricket espected from a most agressive player like you .

upj - do be decent and desist from online abuse, such as using words like "pig". Now it is YOU who should check the facts. It was GREG, NOT IAN, Chappell who had asked his brother Trevor to bowl underarm against NZ.
Ian, who had retired by then, in fact, openly criticised his brother Greg for this act.

Dhoni is king
by Ajay Alagh on Nov 10, 2008 04:26 PM  | Hide replies

Dhoni has proved that Singh is King by winning the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Indians bowled superb line outside the off stump and the Aussies panicked and this showed that Dhoni has a very very good brain by first making it sure that India does not loose the Test and also irritating the Aussies by bowling outside the offstump which they called negative line and started accusing Indians of trying to kill test cricket and so on. They forgot what they had done last time when Indians had gone to Australia claiming catches off tha Pads & Body and their Great Sportsman Keeper Gilly claiming the catches which did not touch the bat. Dear Aussies do remember that this is Dada's India which will give Tit for Tat. Once again Congrats Mahi & all Indians for beating Aussies and getting the trophy back to India.

Difference between captains
by Crick fan on Nov 10, 2008 02:19 PM  | Hide replies

Dhoni - He is cut above rest. He is targetting the fishes eye.
Ponting looked stupid yesterday after tea. He was so worried about the over rate that he wanted to fix the over rate & make sure he completes the over quota before the day. In fact he did not tried to get Indians out after tea as he was keen to complete the overs. If Indians got out who will he be bowling the rest of overs? Very rarest of thoughts from any cricketing captain. I comparison to Dhoni he looks to going for the Dogs tail.

Cricket Australia are now going to pull up Ponting and demand an explanation on why did he use part time bowlers after tea.
I think what happened to West Indies after 1980s (they no longer were mighty)is now happening to Australia.

Sabka accha aur bura time aata hain.Greg Chappel ko hamesha saath rakhoge to accha time gayab ho jayega.
