Dickybird got it right, but then no game can be played for purists. The game has to be exciting for youngsters to come and watch, it should hold their attention. The shortest version would bring in lot of innovation in the shots that are played, they will not be technically perfect but very innovative. it will teach youngsters to handle extreme pressure.
Tests are on its way out, so doesnt matter if county cricket goes down. Dont worry dicky, cricket has taken a new phase

Come what ever may, test cricket remain paramount and the real skills of a player can only be developed by playing test cricket..
