Try as it may, it will take the BCCI some effort to make people believe legends like Kapil Dev didn't exist

Mukul Kesavan

June 13, 2008

They may get rid of murals of him, but can they refute that he is, arguably, the greatest cricketer India has produced? Getty Images

An enormous, mural-like picture of Kapil Dev, side-on in his familiar pre-delivery leap, has been removed from the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali. When asked about its abrupt disappearance, the secretary of that association disingenuously explained that it hadn't been removed for good: the association was merely looking for a new place for it. Everyone else drew the obvious conclusion: the removal of the giant image was the latest in a series of steps taken by the BCCI to punish Kapil Dev for having joined the Zee-sponsored Indian Cricket League as chairman. More generally it was part of the BCCI's bid to outlaw the ICL and its personnel, and to cut them off from the structures of competitive cricket sanctioned by the ICC and operated by its affiliate boards.

Thus, a young player like Ambati Rayudu, 22, one of Hyderabad's brightest first-class batting prospects, faces a lifetime in the cricketing wilderness, barred from playing any form of recognised cricket because he signed up with the ICL team Hyderabad Heroes.

The BCCI and the ICC run a cricketing monopoly, which has been challenged twice - first by Kerry Packer and Channel 9, then by India's Kerry Pac

Warne has taken too much time for field adustment and Bowler appraisal. This is injustice and in reality mounts to cheating. Richie Benaud , another Aussie was one among the Great Captains during the late 50's

i am what i am is right...
Look at the tem structure of any team.. Nobody gave the chance to rajasthan team that they are contenders in any stage.. yet they proved every body wrong and gone to win IPL..
What it shows.. GREAT LEADERSHIP.. With captain cannot function..
Dhoni relies more on the players who are good status.. like Hayden, Hussey. But he learns his lesson fast..
YOU SHUD GIVE CREDIT TO SHANE WARNE WHO LEAD THE THETEM.. AND THE PLAYERS WHO WERE EAGER TO LEARN FROM INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS LIKE WARNE< SMITH AND WATSON>>>>

I feel that only Indian players should take part in the IPL.These would give chance to many other Indian youngsters to show their talent.

yeah exaclt, but how many young players playede well?just goni, ashnodkar, abhishesk nair, all others all flop.i can't imagine IPL without watson,jayasurya..youngsters should disply their skill.age dosn't matter but class is the matter(unfortunatly even out national captian also dosn't have class ,that type of players we have to find out from street..start one street cricket )..yougsters getting more than enough opartunity here.

yes u rightly said Paanchavi Pass is stupid programme, suppose to be a General Knowledge programme for the kids and adults but v see only Sharuk, actor, is hugging, kissing and dancing only rather than developing the kids on IQ's. it is the worst programme. u should see the english version, in that the hoster never touch the woman and kissing and hugging and all

Performances to remember
by Loin Prince on Jun 02, 2008 10:41 AM  | Hide replies

1st edition of IPL will be remembered for some very cool performances like of Shaun Marsh, Watson, Gambhir, Sehwag, Irfan & Yusuf Pathan, Morkel, Tanvir, Gony, Rohit, Warne, Dhoni etc but also for slapping controversy of Harbhajan & Sreeshant (who also had good time in IPL).

It was a most successful & thrilling event happened in recent time. Congratulations to winner & organiser.
