ausi btng relied heavily on gilli. eg. when ausis scored around 200 runs for 5 loss of wkts, the remaining 5 batsman used to score another 200 runs leading ausi to score 400 runs. and the last 5 batsman's batting revolved around gilli.
gilli would be at par with a dynamic sachin as far as his batting is concerned and as regards keeping, healy was considered better than gilli. but gilli never messed it up while keeping also, has been involved in taking stunning diving catches. haddin has to prove his keeping ability first, forget abt his batting.

There is no twist in tale. Ian said Haddin is better wicketkeeper than gilchrist, but not a brillaint batsman compared to gilly. Read it properly - "He is also a damn good batsman. Obviously he is not as brilliant as Gilchrist. got it !!!

Gilly was not the same batsman he was. Gilly averaged 50.18 runs in test cricket from 99 to 2006. from 2006 to 2008 gilly averaged 34.31. So what Chappell is saying is that if Haddin does his job as a keeper very well and bats decently with avg around 30 odd gilly wont really be missed.... which atleast stats prove is fair enough

when someone like gilli is remembered, then it is for his prime batting abilities and not when he was out of form. If sachin's series during 98-2000 were superb but his subsequent 'comparative' failures afterwards doesnt mean that we can compare the formless or injured sachin with others.

I agree to your point. But the point here is not if Haddin is better than Gilly or not. In my opinion GIlly is one of the best Wicketkeep Batsman the worlds ever seen. But the point is with his averages dipping and that too over a period of two years, he might not be missed all that much ie: If Haddin does a decent job.
while he was in the team, gilli was supposed to be the best in the world. now,the australians think otherwise.
while playing in ipl, australians were all over set max saying that they were feeling elated while playing in apl.now, they say they didn't get their moolah...

Dinesh Please read the full text of the comment before comment,
"I think if Haddin tries to be himself, he will be fine and Australia won't miss the Adam Gilchrist of the last couple of seasons anywhere near as much as people think.
Sure, during the last couple of years maybe his standard of keeping declined. But in his prime, he was an extra-ordinary wicketkeeper. He hardly used to drop catches or miss stumping chances in his prime.
Please MR chappal ..shut up your mouth......Itssssssss isssss not so easy for anone to become Mr Gilchirst sorry Mr Perfect Gilchrist............where gilchrist has stopped his career.......it will take lot of time fo rhaddind to do Gilchrist ..
According to me nobody is libel to compare gilly gilly is very good wicketkeeper, Aussies will certainly feel his absence, whatever performence he gave for his team that was admirable, nobody can put himself on his place,as a wicketkeeper i love him very much however time gilly spent with his team that was memorable for Aussies as well as world.
IT is a poor comment from Ianchappel on gilly.Gilly has given opening batsman's role in ODIs a new definition and even aussies r at 50/5 gilly can produce a match winning knock.his wicket keeping is poor only in the last 1 year r so.no wicket keeper can come close to gilly.becoz gilly has been a part of 3 worldcup victories for australia and he played a crucial role in all 3 WC key matches like semis/finals for them(unlike our sachin).so Ian only exposing his ignorance on cricket once again.
