There are lots of sites where you can get info...but there are certain basics :
1) If you are connected to an ISP, there are others who are connected too...make sure that in network neighbourhood, you have not enabled the print and files share option....disable that first..
2) Be password protected on your desktop when you are on net.....passwords are case sensitive so you can make sure you have a password which will never be a word found in any dictionary....there are hacking softwares that sift thru a dictionary....so if your password is say "jungle"...you are a goner....... It should be a combination of upper and lower and also a word which is not found in any dictionary..
3) Never give your email in a public forum to unknown people........and if you have to give it, make sure you give that dummy email address that you have created at a cyber terminal.......and use only the cyber terminal to correspond with unknown people and even open any emails thay have sent in cyber only..
4) Never respond to any email sent by an unknown person from your desktop...us ethe cyber terminal to do that..
5) Never give out an email address in a public forum which you have created on your desktop.....
If you follow these precautions, you should be safe 99% of the time....
