T20 a lottery
by Kris C on May 08, 2008 01:35 PM

T20 a lottery. But still only good players are performing. Rohit Sharma, Sehwag , Gambhir , Hayden, Hussey brothers, Uthappa. Ditto in bowling departments, There are only few wonders from rest.

Ganguly has turned to be a real whiner
by Raman on May 08, 2008 01:56 AM  | Hide replies

I was a great admirer of Dada and consider him above even Sachin in Indian cricket, but over the years he has become a whiner,a hypocrite and also a very jealous and cheap minded guy, this comment of his bragging about his runs is just too petty and not of a guy who captained the national team,he has to be told his days are over and no amount of bragging is going to get him the place in ODIs.
Also he sucks in 20-20 so he makes it look like its a game with no skill

I agree with you totally.

Either he should go on playing silently in T20 format ignoring criticism or should quit this format.

IPL authorities seem to have burdened the franchisees with too many NPAs like Ganguly, Laxman and Dravid (a big question mark is hanging over Sachin's head, one has to see what he does once he is fully fit and starts playing) by stipulating that contracted amounts are to be paid for three years.

Players like Gambhir, Suresh Raina, Yusuf Pathan, Piyush Chawla, Asnodkar are doing far better than fancied senior players from India and abroad.

Raman:

Sorry to break your dream.

He is not bragging about his runs. He is mentioning that DESPITE scoring prolifically, he is still under the scanner.

What he has to be told, he will be told. By the appropriate authorities, thank you very much.

Also, he sucks in 20-20?... :-)
Good that you are not following either IPL, or cricket in general.
One burden less for cricket lovers.

He is not asking anyone to stick to test matches ONLY....

He is saying the REAL test is Test match. So youngsters, you did well in T-20, do keep playing them (and by the way he is as much entitled to play T-20 as any youngster is entitled to play test matches); but just ensure you do well at test level as well.

He is not giving excuse for playing badly in T-20. He is playing okay, bowling okay and captaining okay.

My 2 cents.

"....until they prove their calibre in the Test format as has been done by seniors like HIM." isnt it a form of arrogance?

What Ganguly said is a fact, not arrogance.

What you are doing (by adding HIM in his comment) is falsifying his statement to suit your purpose.

So there.

Grapes are sour

I can only think of the above line to comment on Ganguly's statement. I remember that, while giving interview to a local Bengali newspaper before starting of IPL, Ganguly said that getting into the T-20 batting style would be a cake-walk for him within 2 days of practice. Now, we all know about his worthless batting in T-20. People who argues that real skill can only be judged at the Test Match, should realize that they are not recognizing the ability of instant thinking and delivery within a short period. Test Match tests more a player's discipline and patience rather than his instant shot making abilities. In today's dynamic world, people who can think and execute quickly get more success, this is true in business, office, and every aspect of life. No games in this world is as lengthy as a Test cricket match. Even the game of Chase has a Rapid chase version to test the player's ability to think quickly. The ability of a T-20 player should also be appreciated as well as the ability of a Test Match player. Even in T-20, you cannot get away by just slogging, you have to be consistent with your shot making. You can make 10 or 20 runs by slogging, but that won't help your team. The players who has played attackingly right from the first ball and still made 50s and 100s should definitely be appreciated. Even in Test match, I would appreciate a 50 from 20 balls, rather than a 20 from 50 balls.

Correct Moonna:

You can appreciate a 50 from 20 balls, or a 10 from 2 balls... :-)
And for the rest of 4 and a half days, you would prefer going out with your girl friend? i.e. Having lost the match to the opponents, coz they will have scored the required 20-25 runs within 5 overs that your team will score handsomely in 2 overs?
:-)
