We should not let ICL die
by Kumar on Mar 22, 2008 03:56 AM

If BCCI is pumping in more money into the game, players and infrastructure now (as against the pockets of office bearers), it is because of ICL. If ICL fails, they will go back to their old ways - ie. caring a hoot about the players. It is no secret that all these politicians are in BCCI only because of its money. It is initiatives like ICL that can give cricket back to the players. Every cricket lover - Indian or non-Indian - should be try their best to see that the ban on ICL players is lifted. So many talented youngsters in that league performing well. Let them not fall prey to the politicians fear of losing control of the game and the millions that come with it.

Sports is business
by pizzaboy on Mar 21, 2008 09:51 PM  | Hide replies

Timepass, You are confusing with sports played during Olympics and other regular seasonal sports. I can say all sports Tennis, footbal, Cricket etc are all business sports and all people who are involved and their aim to make money and this goes to players, administrators. Only asiain and olympics games will be called non-business games which are fought for national pride.

Look at how many tennis tournaments happen every year and if you say they are all playing for timepass and not for making money then it looks silly for anyone to believe. Also many sports organizations around the world and especially in US are public traded and are competing with others to make money in sports. I don't see any wrong in making money and also provide employment for many others who are talented and not get many opportunities.

Toni Greg said very well the other day. If BCCI were ever believed in compromise, the millions being going out to foreigh players by ICL and IPL should have stayed in India and used to strengten local cricket.

But this is India I guess..

ICL AND IPL ARE ON WRONG WAY
by Sanjay Gupta on Mar 21, 2008 11:47 AM  | Hide replies

I was already posted note earlier to this.
IPL and ICL are fighting and going on wrong way
and both Indian leagues throwing moneys to foreign cricketers whereas indian domestic cricket players are still igonred.
Domestic cricket players need to get all facility....India is most of rural area where grounds sports activity are lessly available and rural area has full of talent, stamina to fight.
It is time to join ICL and IPL and promot indian cricketers only and not to allow foreign cricketrs.

Same story already mailed to INDIATV.

Regards,
Sanjay Gupta

That also goes to show ICL is purely concerned about money or else they would not invite foreign cricketers and setup a league with only Indian cricketers.

Its idea was that the Indian cricketers can play along with international players and learn from their experience. The experience at international level is different. So it can be a learning experience and there are many players who had the dream to play along with these international stars which i believe icl has fulfilled. ICL also tells the world about other stars we have in domestic cricket who could not make it to the national squad because of lot of reasons.

Sports is not business
by timepass on Mar 21, 2008 11:46 AM  | Hide replies

Pizzaboy, the fundemental problem is sports is not a business. On the same token as your argument, we can have parallel Olympics, World Cups, Test series etc etc. Public would lose interest.

ICL
by pizzaboy on Mar 21, 2008 11:30 AM

It is like Microsoft ordering all other companies not to develop prodycts and need to approve only microsoft authorized projects. It is just an example.. BCCI is exactly trying to do this.. which is just stupid.. Many will say there is ICC but I just can't accept ICC taking decisions on own. It is BCCI pupet.....

Way to go ICL. Full marks to Kapil and Zee.
by pizzaboy on Mar 21, 2008 11:22 AM

Timepass, If you are sure that you can start another ICL and provide employment for many people, I totally agree with you.. Think ICL as a new company who wants to promote cricket and provide more jobs to all. you just think if whole s/w is developed by one particular company and not giving opportunity to others. Do you think we will have this many jobs in IT and development in technology in our lives..

I am starting ICL2, my friend launching ICL3
by timepass on Mar 21, 2008 11:12 AM  | Hide replies

People. Have some sense. If we allow every Tom, Dick and Harry to regulate cricket, there would be anarchy. If Zee TV and Kapil Dev can start ICL, my friend Ballu and me each would start our own leagues. We will have Doordarshan and ETV Bihar as sponsors. And we will get Bips to dance to "Beedi Jalai Ley" everynite. Also she will take requests from the crowd and dance to those numbers. No control, pure entertainment. Subsequent years, we will have lap dances for crowds from the Russian dancers. Rs7/dance. We will blow away both ICL and IPL with this league. If we allow privatization of cricket by allowing ICL, I definitely want a share of the pie.

You're wrong moron. Every Tom, Dick and Harry cannot run this sort of a league. You need to be passionate about cricket. you should have genuine concern for the players. Simply having money will not do. You should manage the show in a proper manner

I thought its not necessary to answer to an idiot like you - but here goes. If organization is all you see only Zee TV and ICL can achieve, you are wrong. If Zee TV can do it, why not ETV and FTV and my personal favorite History Channel. In fact History Channel can get only 50 plus people to play to compensate for years of low income they had from cricket.

IPL and ICL
by Venkatachalam on Mar 21, 2008 11:04 AM

If ICL had not come up IPL would never have been born.So it is amusing to here the comments of Lalit Sha when he said that the the auctioning of players is being nurtured by him for the last 14 years!

It is commendable that many of our youngsters are not overshadowed by more illustrious name in the ICL championship.

ckt and tv channels.
by ben hur on Mar 21, 2008 10:58 AM

compare the era where dd was the only channel. now with multiple pvt channels operating, apart from the wide choice to the public, these 100s of channels r showing thousands of programmes/serials, etc., giving job opportunities/livelihood to lakhs of artists . so it has been good to the country.

similarly bcci monopoly has to b broken. let icl succeed. more n more cricketers will get the benefit and survive on ckt. public will hv option. channels will hv alternatives. so icl is good for ckt.
