News India fielding coach Singh to stay: BCCI REUTERS PrintSaveWrite to EditorMail
NEW DELHI, March 19: The Indian cricket board said on Wednesday that fielding coach Robin Singh would be retained for the home Test series against South Africa, denying media reports that said he would be fired.
"Yes, he will be there. We will put out a release on this," board secretary Niranjan Shah said when asked about the reports. He did not elaborate.
A Delhi-based daily (Not The Times of India ) reported that Gary Kirsten, who has taken over as India coach before the series against his home country, had told the board that Singh's services would not be required.
The former India all-rounder joined the team along with bowling coach Venkatesh Prasad last year following their shock first-round exit from the World Cup in the West Indies.
Prasad and Singh had a dispute with the board over their involvement with the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL), due to be launched next month, the paper said. The first match of the three-Test series starts in Chennai on March 26.
Is it fair to use "fired". Is this the word from Coach, or Bcci or Rediff. It is hell to hear such a cheap words. If it is from rediff, it is useless to look to this site, with very poor ethics, to carry such a information. Media has to so sure in using words

don't except pure grammer in all time. if u r gentle u shud underestand instead of commending...... i know u will fire (fired)back.
abe i ask everybody who is gary kirsten...our all 11 players are better than him...his career was too short and not stable...the bestest coach will be sunil gavaskar...!! he knew all the tactics...!! he is a great cricket...having practical knowlegde of cricket...gary kirsten..?? bakwas...ekdam bakwaas...vo kya kar lega...hamari team ko pata hai ki kaise kya karna hai..!!

I think Sunil Gavaskar was offered that position and he turned it down. The reason he gave was because of the obligations towards his own company (forgot its name)! But I think the real reason is that he knows the non sense politics that goes on in there. He is a smart guy wouldnt have liked to step into that and also wouldnt have liked the interference from the board members...

Sunil Gavaskar is a disruptive personality. Rather than ensuring that the team avoids controversy, he will fuel controversy by making racially targetted statements and spoil the team's focus.
Also as a captain he always only plotted for a draw. He never knew how to win a game. India does not need such a coach.

Sunil is making a lot of money as a sports Commentator.....as well as the owner of a sports management co.So why the hell he would take up this assignment of a coach for petty nuts.
venky prasad...he he he...hasi aati hai...iska bowling career to dekho...itni laddu bowl aati hai iski...koi bhi pitaayi kar sakta hai...on the other hand ...robin singh was a gr8 allrounder...he won many matches for india...prasad ne kya kiya...kuch nahi...robin deserved to be in the team...but usko john wright ne nikalwa diya...!! aur bechara gambhir bhi bahar hai...calibure aur talent ki hatya hoti hai yahan...aur kuch nahi...!!

Rohit, Did you know John Buchanan has never played international cricket and has hardly played 10 games in domestic cricket. But he is considered as the best coach in the world.
On the contrary, Greg Chappell and Kapil Dev had glorious careers, but we all know how good they were as coaches.
So, playing abilities do not have any bearing on coaching abilities

you wont watch the match properly i think. prasad is the deadliest bowler for lefthander except some matches against srilanka in front of jayasurya. he gave too many good starts for india. if u know the game properly then report here otherwise dont put comments like this. u dont know i think under his coaching only ishanth, sreesanth, praveen kumar are having good time in indian cricket.

Well said :) In fact there would have been instances where Kumble would have bowled his spinners faster than Prasad's pace bowling. I am pretty sure about this.

He is secretly learning to bowl from sharma gang so that he can try his luck in IPL again...

Well said.not necessarily if a person is good teacher he can be a good in that field and vice-versa. If so Ramakant Achrekar should have been greater than Sachin Tendulkar....
Why fired? Why not end of contract. Why cant they say he has been released. Why use the word fired? Is his contract still valid? I thought it was only for the Aussie tour. So why use the word fired. He has done a great job as a fielding coach.

well said. i dont know why he was dropped from the indian quad itself. Guru greg wanted fresh-young talent and we had to loose Robin singh in those times... pretty sad, when the fielding has improved so much in last couple of months they are letting Robin go again, listening to a gora for that matter... this phirangs will always drown out boats....
here comes another greg chappel. good luck gary. we will see another debacle soon. thanks to BCCI bringing a foreign coach to get a debacle to our team which is doing very well under lalchand.

Coz BCCI doen't wsnt to loose yhe money game, you know if they play they will perform well and there will be no fixing, to control the players BCCI apoints coach and coach will tell players in which match they have won or which they have lost.
