Why?
by Supratik on Mar 16, 2008 04:01 PM  | Hide replies

Do other sports give money to cricket? Cricket's become big because the BCCI, even for all its mistakes, has at least promoted the game properly since WC 1983. This sends the wrong message to other sports administrations, that even if you don't do your job properly you can just put out a begging bowl and someone will give you money.

Why NOT?

And more over why do you assume "This sends the wrong message to other sports administrations, that even if you don't do your job properly you can just put out a begging bowl and someone will give you money." if BCCI is funding, like Mr.Shetty said they are going take measures if the funding is used the right way, trusting the guys (both BCCI and the who ever is going to recieve the funding) is the least thing you can do!

Ram my friend, the BCCI already has enough on its plate, why does it need to be concerned with the welfare of other sports? So the BCCI is going to make sure the funds are being used properly - so what? Why can't other sports get their own money? The very fact these guys are begging the BCCI for money shows they have no business sense, no marketing skills for their sport, no idea what they're doing. In other words, they're incompetent and are out of ideas so they're begging....

BCCI is a private body...sharing its money is not its own opinion.....if Tennia gets 2 millions or chess gets 2 millions they r not putting in some other game I feel BCCI then giving money they can take the Hockey Team for a year and improve the game and let them share the profits ..............

If BCCI thinks that they are in a position to help other sports, WHY NOT? Let us join them appreciating what they are trying to do instead of doubting them.

Dont give money. As said by me take over IHF spend, run it get couple of worthwhile medals or cups then give IHF back to KPS Gill or any body.If you give money they (officials) will spend it on overseas jaunts and nothing, nothing will reach grassroots. It is like Govt Dole.Spend it wisely on Hockey

Where are all the BCCI bashers now?
by Joaquim DaSilva on Mar 16, 2008 01:19 AM  | Hide replies

When the profits of the IPL were being discussed, so many people were asking BCCI to share the money. Now that they have taken a step to help out other sports where is everybody?

Why are there no words of praise for the BCCI who are donating money to help other sports in India to prosper.

Well done BCCI, well done.

As if BCCI gives two hoots for criticism from public.
This criticism business is being taken too far after a certain Mr. Manjrekar has started the trend.
I have heard twenty times more criticism on Sonia Gandhi. The good lady doesn't seem to be in any hurry to vacate the plum position she's ensconced herself in.
Any explanations?

Australia enjoyed Ganguly's absence
by Sunny on Mar 15, 2008 08:47 PM  | Hide replies

Steve Wagh was scared of Ganguly as Dada has been batting with huge freedom in those days and most noticeable feature about his cricket has been his aggressivenes and Royal walk. Even Bradman didn%u2019t faced the dreadful bowlers like Ganguly faced so Dada is best ever cricketer. Toughest challenge lies ahead for youngesters to take Dada%u2019s place, even 5 young batsman together cannot fill Ganguly%u2019s spot so at last selection committee will have no option other than to again select Dada for one day and then make him captain both for test and one day. Shahrukh also bought Calcutta team only because he knew that Ganguly is only the original match winner and others r playing only for securing their place in team, Shahrukh didn%u2019t took Dhoni and Yuvraj in his team because of Ganguly so Shahrukh sacrificed both Dhoni and Yuvraj as he cannot dream of his team without Ganguly. All Indian players know very well that Ganguly is best batsman in world. Even Ponting was so much of happy for Dada%u2019s exclusion that he openly said that he is surprised for Dada%u2019s omission and then from there Ponting took Indian team very lightly without Ganguly and so India won tri-series so it was Dada only who won tri-series for India in Australia. Ponting thought that Indian team is nothing without Ganguly and so he didn%u2019t took the matches serious and ultimately lost from India.

Ganguly is all time best
by Sunny on Mar 15, 2008 08:46 PM  | Hide replies

If u all r looking for a clue to why Ganguly is best batsman world have ever produced then it is here, Ganguly sustain his spectacular runs both in Test and one day cricket since his debut with highest number of sixes in one day, his eyes speak of a tiger who destroyed Macgrath, Akram, Waqar, Sohaib, Lee and Warne with utmost ease and also he is a combination of composure and technique. Other players gets charged up just with presence of Ganguly, Dhoni didn%u2019t select Ganguly as he was sure that Ganguly become captain of one day after tri-series. Ganguly marked new height in his career when he single-handedly won matches for India from 1998-2001 while others struggled. Ganguly supported Yuvraj Singh and Bhajji in 2002 as selection comitte almost throwed them out, just imagine if Bhajji was not there in Australia for Perth test and tri-series final then India would have lost Perth test and tri-series finals as he bowled some tight and wicket taking overs. In one days against Sri Lanka if Yuvraj didn%u2019t score 76 then India would have been out of triagular series, so indirectly because of Ganguly India won tri-series as both Yuvraj and Bhajji r in team because of Ganguly, Indian Board should award Ganguly for his effforts and give him captaincy for test and one day. Pathan is in team because of Ganguly and Pathan was man of the match in Perth test, so Ganguly is a kingmaker and full credit must be given to Ganguly for India%u2019s win in Australia both in test and oneday.

1. Shahrukh is not cricket pundit. The reason why he took Ganguly in Kolkata team is because had he not taken him, he would had to face the attack of Ganguly fans like you. And the reason why he didn't take Dhoni or Yuvraj is because as per the rules, the icon players (even if they are worthless now) have to be paid 15% more than the highest paid player in the team. Imagine paying 15% higher than Dhoni (1.5 million dollar) to Ganguly. Shahrukh is clever (when it comes to business).

2. As for the Autralians comment about Ganguly's exclusion, they knew that Ganguly is not a match winner. They were more worried about inclusion of players like Uthappa and Rohit, who proved to be match winners.

3. When the Indian team for ODIs in CB series was announced, Ganguly fans were telling that the team will not win even a single match. And here we are. They have won the series and have beaten Oz by 2-0. I am sure our BCCI selectors are wise enough to understand the need of time.

abe bangali babu, tu jitna bhi Gangu ka gun gaale sab ko uska aukhat pata hai. Ganguly is best test player, my foot. If you say he is a good one day player, then may be its right. But even that is in the past. He cant even run now, so i dont know what he is going to do in IPL. may be he will be non playing captain. He hasnt done anything noticeable when he played Mcgrath, Akram, Donald and Shane Warne. I cant remember ganguly scoring any century when he played the above mentioned bowlers in test matches. I think without doubt the most overhyped batsman in indian cricket history. Its understandable to see bengalis go overboard as he is the only good cricket player produced by bengal. But a realistic perspective will tell you that he was only a limited player

why don't you also say that the BCCI is so rich because of Ganguly and the world is sustained by Ganguly?? What kind of mania is this, man? OK. we understand that Ganguly was a good player and captain... has contributed much to Indian cricket but to say what you're saying is totally insane!

Hey Sunny. India won tri-series indirectly because of Bahadur Shah Zafar.
As the guardian of a rich heritage of the Mughal sultanate, it was incumbent upon him and some others like Wajid Ali Shah etc. to hold the bastions in the face of the onslaught from the British "traders".
That he astutely managed to get the British firmly entrenched, led to the marvellous 22 men sport taking roots on the Indian soil.
That was the real cause of the great Dhoni and his men being confident enough to lift the tri-series.

When you do your analysis of indirect efforts, you should not do a cursory analysis as you did above in awarding the "Indirect Champion" award to Ganguly.
You should have done a throrough research, and rightfully awarded the "Indirect Champion" cup to Bahadurshah Zafar.

Sunny..Get a life man...Ganguly was a very good player...he is regarded as one of the premium batsmen of the last decade...no doubt...but dont say stupid things...he doesnt even have an average of 50 in tests..he was a good leader, but not the best batsmen of our team when he was playing..the best were sachin and dravid..laxman too has a better record than him in tests...in one days, he was betetr than dravid and laxman..but then, can u say michael bevan as teh best batsmen ever because he had the highest one day average? aussies didnt even give him 20 tests to play..rememebr that...

whats with these Bengalis? i dont see kannadigas taking to the streets and creating so much vandalism when dravid is dropped...same with people of hyderabad when laxman is dropped..its teh case with all others except Bengalis..whats wrong withthe Bongs??
