Sachin-A genuine match winner
by sunil vyas on Mar 12, 2008 05:47 PM  | Hide replies

Sachin is a match winner in his own right. It is not just because of his cricketing brilliance. Its because of his sheer presence, which motivates the players and also sends shock waves into the opposition. I still remember Shane Warne in Channel 9 recollecting his duels with Sachin. Nothing can unsettle this genius. He goes on and says for a player like Sachin "we need to work out many strategies to get him out". This is where Sachin becomes a match-winner. He always keeps the opposition guessing. Kapil Dev, Gavaskar, Vengsarkar, Azhar, Dravid, Laxman, Ganguly are match-winners, but Sachin is greater than them because whether he scores or not, he keeps the opposition on their toes. The very fear of the rival bowlers makes Sachin a match-winner. Tendulkar holds the record for winning the maximum `Man of the Match' awards in one-day internationals. India has won almost 80 per cent of the one-dayers in which Sachin has scored a century. Sachin is an emperor in world cricket. Tendulkar has shone as the one man gladiator for India. SOMEONE once said "an expert is someone who knows more and more about less and less until he knows everything about nothing". The same applies to those experts who have conferred upon themselves the right to come hard upon someone who I would term a national asset. Tendulkar outweighs statistics and numbers. That is reflected in his altruistic and dedicated batting which thoroughly impresses the cricket experts. Tendulkar is a match-winner, although

I agree, also, tenDULLkar plans to devise a special stool of about 1.5 foot tall and stand on the above. This is to adjust himself well on the bounce compensating his height factor.

Also, he takes a few tonics namely, incremin...to try and increase his height to a couple of inches and competing with the young taller guys like ishanth...

Is it? I bet that most international batsmen will want to buy a replica of that stool to improve their techniques too.
Do you know if Sachin has patented this proposed invention?

Too much hype, too much publicity, to many rewards for just a series win. Previous year RSA, England & NewZealand also beat Australia, the way we did. But they didnt treated it as a world cup victory. Probably beating aussies whether in India or in Australia in ODIs is truely rare for us.

CORRECTION! All other teams FLUKED it as they eventually got beaten comprehensively yet again by Australia in subsequent showings. Whereas India has challenged Aussies over the last 3 showings in Australia and getting better and better at it with time under different leaders and a different blend of players. So, there is every reason for india and indians to celebrate. Sorry, not agreeing with you on this one!

Yeah better show as follows - win in test in England (1-0) rain saved india when 90 overs washed out & Eng remained 1 wicket away from victory. Lost ODI series, there. Lost all series against australia in India in ODIs tilldate! Lost Test & ODI series IN RSA (despite their colour policy), failed to qualify World cup 2nd round, 20/20 world cup win, lost test series against australia in india & now in australia, before that 2-4 loss in home series against aussies, badly lost 20/20 against australia (75 odd all out, aus 76 for 1 in 11 overs) 1-2 down against australia in group stage. Had also lost last three test series in New Zealand. Only team with max no. of ties & Losses with Zimbabwe..... Not that great performance to boast. Instead Bhupati & Vishwanathan Anand have true dominance in their respective fields

You can get anywhere with IFs and BUTs Mr./Ms. Western Securities.
To your list of rain saved India etc. also add umpires saved Australia.
To your point "were 1-2 down against Australia in group stage".. India clearly proved they are on the up by coming from behind and winning.
I was not aware of this Indian team under Dhoni having played Zimbabwe, let alone having maximum number of ties against them.
Bhupati and Vishwanathan Anand are greats, that doesn't mean that you are a loser, does it? Then how does it translate into Indian cricket team being a loser?
Points to ponder.

You should now be ashamed, won't you? I mean, India plays worse cricket than a team whose top order regularly scores thundering 30 runs.. ;-)

It is not news to us viewers that Yuvaraj didnt make the best use of the chances given to him in Australia, in test matches. It was for everyone to see.

Now, Mr. Rajput has a big problem, 'cause the chief selector that gave him the chance pointed this out to him. Get real. There is a reason why he is the chief selector and your are not even sure of where u stand.

Hey Western .. calm down mate..

All right.. let all Indians, on behalf of Rajput, negate the big lies being smattered about.
In truth, there was no fitting reply by India.
Let Rediff apologize publicly for posting absurdly wrong news about Rajput being felicitated in Ruia college, when in truth there couldn't have been any ceremony. Obviously, with India's exit in Hockey qualifier, there couldn't have been any celebrations, isn't it clear?

And so shall our Prime Minister be publicly apologizing to the United States for not agreeing to everything being forced upon India in the nuclear deal. Why should he apologize? Because United States wins more Olympic medals, that's why.

On the same grounds, we should also give up our claim on all landmasses in Arunachal and Kashmir which are usurped by China. Reason? China has won more olympic gold medals.

Anyone else left in the olypmic medals tally to whom all Indians owe a public apology?
Maybe to Western Securities... mate, how many olympic gold medals have you won? India wants to know, so that we may publicly apologize to you too.

Prasad Manokaran
regionalism and professionalism
by Prasad Manokaran on Mar 11, 2008 03:24 PM  | Hide replies

The best thing that the national selectors did was drop the two seniors from the ODI squad. It requires courage of conviction. Knowing fully well that regional-minded observers will ignite controversy for dropping Ganguly and Dravid, the Chairman of the selection committee Dilip Vengsarkar stamped his authority.

There is a growing tendency among the television channels to encourage nonsensical criticism which, most of the time, is not based on facts. When Vengsarkar%u2019s team took over, India were ranked seven in the ICC ratings.

Now we have climbed to second. The problem with the exclusion of Ganguly is that he has followers who keep comparing him with Tendulkar.
In fact, one expects Ganguly and Dravid to quit one-day cricket the way Kumble did. It has helped Kumble stay focused on the requirements of Test cricket. How many of such followers were happy when Kumble was appointed captain? The majority was against the move. Yet Kumble proved the theory wrong, of not making a bowler as the captain.
Again when 19-year-old Ishant Sharma was chosen for the tour, a majority felt it was too early for him. Yet again, the majority were proven wrong.
The players make the coach. It is not the other way around. Unfortunately the coaches in India don%u2019t let the players enjoy the game, and genuine talent is lost to the game. Yuvraj Singh, Robin Uthappa, Rohit Sharma and Yusuf Pathan are indubitably exceptional talent. They are big stage players. We need to encourage them

Dear prasad,
At some point i agree as well as disagree with ur views. Why? B'coz Dravid, Ganguly have their own place while Dhoni has his. Dravid and Ganguly were good captains no doubt about that and Dhoni is excellent. The coach is a person who can make or break the players. It is not the players make the coach. Remember Chappel?
Ganguly was given the backseat during Chappel era, Chappel was responsible for the bad form of Sehwag. He was also responsible for India's early WC exit.
I hope the present young legs would make the Indian Cricket future bright under the guidance of Lalchand Rajput, Prasad, and Robin Singh

Good points in your comment, well done! And just wanna add something to it, i think in cases od the ODI, i believe it was Dhoni and Yuvi who had a big say in the selection of youngsters, Vengsarkar was not of much clue there. And i think Dhoni has done well in trusting many youngsters at times. Whereas in Tests, the team selected was very fitting indeed, kudos to Kumble and Selection committee.

I appreciate when you acknowledged the good effort of selectors. WE were only hearing criticism when things didnt go well. But no appreciation when things were improved. Vengsarkar is quite straight in his stand and believes in himself.
He is a different cricketer who unlike his colleagues like Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri didnt go to money earning after quiting cricket. He auctioned his bat which made 3 centuries and used the fund to make Elf-Vengsarkar academy to make young cricketer through free coaching. He also made 30 fast bowling pitches to make youngsters face fast bowling.

INDIA aur INDIANS, hamari kismat maen ek achee victory aur acha performance aaya to kayee indians lage hue hain ek doosre ki kaatne maen. Plz look at other countries, EVEN BANGLADESH IS MORE PROUD OF ITS CRICKETERS THAN HALF OF US ALL ARE!! Start accepting that India TEAM played as ONE in TESTS and ODIs and it was a TEAM CONTRIBUTION. Every run made by any batsman in FINALS or LEAGUE matches counted, every wicket taken or run saved in the field by a player of our team was crucial! And thats why IT IS CALLED A TEAM EFFORT and NOT a Sachin's lone hand to victory or DHONI's luck that eventuated in victory. Its 11 players and their wisdom together that brought this victory over KANGAROOS AND i believe we should all be grateful to our players and should pay them respect for giving INDIA this historical opportunity to hold its head high and say we can beat Australia even when they are in golden touch and ruling the world. Its good to see so far the IDIOTIC commenters have not entered this forum yet, but soon they will. Please avoid such people who are unnecessarily making our team and players look bad. I think INDIA NTEAM PLAYED AS ONE in TESTS n ODIs. AND THEY NEED T BE CONGRATULATED and CREDIT NEEDS TO BE GIVEN TO BOTH CAPTAINS AND THE SUPPORT STAFF.
