Buchanan is absolutely right

We Indian have the tendency of going over board just for even a smallest victory because it is like a hungry man deprived of food for so many days suddenly gets even the left over. The Australian lost the triangular series because they had put themselve under pressure due to ongoing controvercies. Why we are forgeting that what was the contribution of our stars.Yuvraj,Dhoni,Harbhajan, were all are failures. It was only the youngsters we could show some improvement that too since the Australian have not done their homework about Ishant and praveen.Just wait for few more days and see for your self how we will fair against South Africa. We are just making noises like half empty vessels.

Forgot the young Sachin!! He is the man who performed in both finals otherwise I cannot imagine the victory which we had. It is not just because of youngsters. Remember that.

You are right. Sachin is a great player,he is a class of his own.Can not bring him along with Yuv raj ,dhoni and company.Yes I agree it was a mistake on my part forgeting Sachin in bringing victory for India.

dhoni was a failure ?? look at dhoni's performance with bat in the series. Each time he got the chance to play he did exceedingly well. Dhoni was third highest run scorer in the series scoring more runs than any australian or sri lankan player.
Yuvraj was not in good form but he is been playing well over past few months and every one can have occasional bad series. Harbhajan played a veryyyy impt role in the finals. He changed both the finals by taking hayden and symonds in the first match and symonds is the second
i guess u didnt watch the series. By mohit

India and AUS are not at par. India is miles ahead. With a bumper crop of young talents, especially bowlers, india will dominate for decades.

Blind Buchanan
by Himalay on Mar 11, 2008 02:43 PM  | Hide replies

Buchanan is blind and cannot see the writing on the wall. Aussies were never a great cricket team, like the great West Indies team of the past. What was great about Aussies was their preparation, planning & man-management aspects, i.e. the non-cricket aspects, unlike the great westindian who excelled only in their on field cricket. Aussies were all this while dependent on Mcgrath & Shane Warne, as has been exemplified by the aussie loses after these two have retired. If ever there was a cricket match between the great westindies team of the past & the great aussie team, i bet westindies team would have beaten the aussies handsdown easily, even if the aussie team had both Mcgrath & Shane warne playing for them.

It is only a comparision of two very good cricket teams, WestIndies team of early 80s and Aussie team of the 90s, my point is aussies though a great team were largely dependent on the talents of great aussie bowlers McGrath & Shane Warne for their golden run since early 90s, they were no doubt a talented bunch of cricketers. But if you remove McGrath & Shane Warne from their best lineup, then they are good but not an invincible team, as has been proved now after the two have retired, Indians have been consistently beating aussies recently, Former India captain Saurav Ganguly had also once said that, he would like to see how aussies perform after Mcgrath & Shane Warne retired. Now, compare the WI team of the 80s they were a bunch of 11 super talented cricketers, they were never dependent on one or two players only, their team consisted atleast 3 bowlers of 'Mcgrath' class (if not better) in their line up at any time. The quality of their players & the quality of the cricket they played easily surpassed the Aussie team of the 90s. In my opinion the West Indies team of late 70s & early 80s was the best ever cricket team in the history of cricket without any doubt.

Shows your utter agony and inability against a quality team....You have squeezed your brain to find out a fairly superstitious information on 70's, 80's teams...No doubt Warne/mcgrath are poised cricketers...But Aussies never dependent on one player...DO you know who was James Hopes or Brad Haddin, say 6 months ago...take their records against India in India, and then you will realise, matee

Cheers :)

You have gone MAD i think, otherwise how can you even contemplate that James Hopes & Brad Haddin are a good player at this early stage in their careers!! There must be 100 cricketers as good as these two in world cricket today. :))

No 1?
by Crick fan on Mar 11, 2008 08:00 AM  | Hide replies

What Buchanan says may be correct. As he says Aussies been no 1 for past 8 years. But this Indian tours almost opened can of worms. The way Aussies went playing test matches after the 1st one. I have a severe doubts that they win and been winning more matches for extra cricketing reasons. They Intidimate opponents, and umpires alike. The sydney test had that skill on display. If you dont call this influnecing the umpire, then its can be called fixing umpires. Considering Umpiring mistakes Aussies lost 47 wickets in the Sydney match and Indian lost just 36. Still Aussies won.
The sort of catches they proclaimed gave a lesson to other teams not have any trust pact on this aspect with them. Over all they would shamelessly keep batting after sniking the ball to keepers despite nowing that TV camera is on. They blame this on Umpires and think it as part of luck they have.
Now comming to the ODI's. They lost last 4 matches including the two finals. It shows that if the opponents are prepaired to fight out hard, they may loose. The fact was that in ODI's they not only played below par Indians, They were far below their own self. Aussies beware come here for a Test series, you will find respect difficult to come by.

Crick fan:
Noble though your intentions are, some things to point out.
You probably mean Aussies lost 27 wickets, and Indians lost 16. Just a matter of detail.

I am not debating what you are saying in general. However, I must point out that despite all that you mentioned did happen, end of the day it was India who lost the Sydney match for themselves. With 3 wickets in hand, all they needed to do was play out 2 overs for a well earned draw.

In ODIs too, they were not as drastically pathetic as the stats now suggest. I think they peaked too early during the prelims, and didn't have enough on display during the finals. Especially their top order was in total shambles during both finals. They were always staring down the barrel come the 30 run mark when they were invariably 3 down. Not a pretty sight for any Aussie, in the team or outside.

So let us see what happens when they come to India. Will certainly be interesting.

right now you are licking the 2-0 defeat in the finals rofl!

ponting demanded his team give the best and peak up for the finals remember. it was a heated summer and neither side can stand losing to the other. and aussies were beaten in a high stakes game fair and square. gibberish like "not so improtant" comes from sore losers. LOL!

India still has to improve
by CricFan01 on Mar 11, 2008 06:48 AM

The recent performances have been encouraging and they are on right track to becoming #1. Bowling in the slog overs though was better in the recent games in Aus, needs to be consistently good. Not just one or two bowlers all the bowlers should be able to bowl well in the slog overs. When chasing large totals Indian batsmen should learn how to construct the innings by looking for ones and twos all the time. The younger players should also learn not to throw away a good start by playing rash shots. Lets hope that India repeats the performance against SA in the home test series.

Good article....
by Mike Behrenger on Mar 11, 2008 05:52 AM  | Hide replies

A very good article and specially in relations to the nature of the coming up 20/20 comp in IPL. Although, i must say it will be interesting in watching how these teams work with a very multicultural and diverse build up. The biggest challenge for such a league is not providing entertaining cricket, but to get these players who come fro mtheir own backgrounds and patriotisms to GEL together as team mates. And above all, at times face their own national team colleagues as opponents to battle for victory. Should be very very interesting to watch. And i must say, the first few weeks will tell all about the future of IPL. Who knows, the tone this comp sets in the beginning may give away the nature of things to come!

As for India and Aus at par, i think the balance is tilting now, it needs to be said. Recrods don't tell a story of the future but the pictures of the past and so they cannot be used to predict that India is still not there. I think India is well n truly up there now with its bench strength pretty strong.

The equations can change in the blink of an eye. australia's past 8 yrs record is not going to help australian cricket here or buchanan.

Ishant is the big dangerman for aussies.
piyush should be brought in quickly as well.

how talents like ishant, rohit ,manoj and piyush progress in the next few years will determine india's as well as australia's fate.

they are there for the taking. but only by india alone. SA and pak always lack class batsmen. SL, NZ are too small. eng? its not even a popular sport there.

Makes sense
by Cricket on Mar 11, 2008 05:17 AM

Buchanan or anybody else for that matter can say, and rather should say that India is not on par with Australia.
That's a good thing for Team India to always keep that sense of urgency in playing with additional vigour.
After all, we play cricket to win, and fans watch cricket to enjoy good cricket and also see Team India win.
Apart from that, we are hardly interested in who says what.
