RETIREMENT PLAN
by damodaran mohan on Mar 07, 2008 06:15 PM

We have a rich bench strength now but the nature of richness in case of bowlers and batsmen are of opposite nature. While the young fast bowlers need to be rested in rotation to conserve them, in case of batsmen the young upcoming talents need to be exposed more by resting two of the FAB FOUR by rotation. So, select only two of the FOUR by turn and replace by two youngsters the remaing big TWO . This will ensure a YOUNG HEAVY side that will retain the attitude and exuberance of the young side witnessed in the recent victories. Although Sachin led from front in batting in the Finals but age was showing the way he missed the entire fielding in the last Final. He can certainly be rested in the forthcoming tour to SA. And Saurav also can be rested for the SA tour so that left handers, RAINA& YUVRAJ get chance to bat more which they need badly. In the next series Dravid & Laxman can be rested and SACHIN & SAURAV can play and so on. This is the only way to build a new winning side as otherwise young players like ROHIT, RAINA, TIWARY, TANMAY, VIRAT etc will wither away because already likes of SEHWAG, KARTIK , PARTHIV PATEL, BADRINATH , CHOPRA etc. are not getting the National call they deserve. If SHANE WARNE, MCGRATH, GILCHRIST etc can retire at their peak why BCCI cannot plan an honourable exits gradually for our greats ?

Youth and experience
by indira on Mar 07, 2008 01:50 PM

Having a youthful team is good for the future. But one can not ignore or forget the contributions of the seniors for Indian cricket. Winning the tournments are vrey important but it shouldn't be the only criteria to judge the players.Consistency of the performance should also be taken into account, irrespective of the result. Success of a team doesn't depend upon a single player but all the players.Every one should contribute. If we have to judge a player by how many tournaments he had won for his team, then even Brian Lara will be called an unsuccessful player. But one can not deny the fact that the amount of joy one gets by watching players like Sachin, Lara, Dada and Dravid. When they retire, we will remember them only for their batting style, their shots, drives etc and the pleasure we used to derive from watching them play.
The present team has the nucleus for developing into one of the best teams. But the players should show consistency and have passion for the game. They should remember that these two qualities that made Sachin, Lara,Dravid, Dada and Kumble to play so many years of entertaining cricket.

Any team without Sourab will bring laurels to India. Sourab has the maximum strictures for indiscipline from ICC. That is why he is appreciated by Bhajji as well Yuvaraj. They should follow the footsteps of Kumble,Dravid, Laxman

PART 2-WHAT SYDNEY MORNING HERALD WROTE ABOUT SACHIN AFTER WIN IN 2 FINALS
by Rakesh Kukreti on Mar 07, 2008 10:27 AM

If the seamer was nonplussed by this offering, he must have been startled by the batsman's next creation as a good length delivery was blasted past him off the back foot. Few men have been able to play the straight pull. The Indian also took delight in guiding lifters over the slips, the shot that kept the score rattling along in Sydney. Nor is he content merely to elude the catchers. Depending on the field, he places the ball wide or fine. At one stage at the Gabba, Ricky Ponting sent two colleagues to patrol the third-man boundary whereupon the batsman sent the ball between them. It is difficult enough to find the gaps with orthodox strokes. Tendulkar is also adept at developing singles off accurate deliveries. Either he stuns the ball towards gully and scampers or he steers the ball behind point with a stroke reminiscent of a monarch knighting a favoured admiral. Accordingly he does not allow pressure to build. After a bright start, Tendulkar pushed the score along steadily, biding his time and allowing fresher partners to take risks. Throughout a contentious trip these tourists played with tenacity and audacity. It has been a colossal struggle between an ageing champion and a bold challenger.

PART 1-WHAT SYDNEY MORNING HERALD WROTE ABOUT SACHIN AFTER WIN IN 2 FINALS
by Rakesh Kukreti on Mar 07, 2008 10:26 AM

Apart from the frenzied finish and the curious outbreak of tackles on the field, the abiding memory of the match came from Tendulkar's bat. The first final, in Sydney, had produced one of the game's finest chasing innings. Accordingly, reporters hoped for a second helping from the maestro. Happily he obliged with a superb effort in the second final. Magnificent in Sydney, Tendulkar produced another well paced innings. Tendulkar looked comfortable from the first ball. At such times his bat appears as wide as the Suez Canal. The straight drive is the cornerstone of his batting and he plays it perfectly. To this solid foundation he adds fertile strokes square of the wicket and improvisations executed with imagination and dexterity. But the drive past the bowler tells the tale. It is an immaculate stroke unfurled without any hint of flamboyance. Spectators find in it the same satisfaction as a mathematician does in a formula. Tendulkar does not indulge himself at the crease. His style is not a style at all, merely his way of scoring runs. Even the apparently cheeky upper cut and the reverse sweep aired yesterday take into account score and field. He calculates and then commits. Not that every straight drive is the same. Normally the ball is punched past the bowler with an abbreviated swing. Facing Stuart Clark, he adjusted his stroke, rolled his writs at impact and still managed to send the ball speeding past deep mid-on.

Is cricket match fixed???
by james on Mar 07, 2008 08:10 AM  | Hide replies

I suppose all cricekt matches played by India is fixed after the rise Of ICL and to make popularize the IPL.

I might be wrong in my view as well, but this is my soild reason to think so..As If india wins matches more and more money can be made by all players and all cricket boards.Esp the losing aussies and all players world wide..

Think like this. What would have been the state of IPL if india lost in 20-20 and the series down under..And all these things happened in the verge of IPL...

agree with the batting order. But for bowling i consider having Ishant, R.P. and Zaheer. Pathan to play as the all rounder and Harbhajan or Chawla as the spinner is enough. If any of the seamers are not available then Chawla should come in. But thats that...no more changes i believe. Praveen is good for ODIs as in tests the ball won't swing as much as in ODIs, as the ball gets swapped in ODIs after 35 overs but in Tests, you use one ball for 80 overs or so.

I agree and Kumble is doing s decent job. Atleast I was impressed the way he led in Australia. Dhoni is good and all, but to young and naive. I still can't understand why he was openly criticizing Rohit Sharma for the run out. Dhoni claims he is trasparent and nothing wrong with it, but he will learn very soon..

I think Yuvraj will be in the team instead of Badrinath or Karthik, & Pathan will be in the final 11 Ahead of "Sree" or "Lambu"... Not sure whether R. P can make to 11 or not
