ICL players
by rajagopalan on Jun 24, 2008 12:11 PM

Now it is toomuch for IPL to ban foreigh players due to involment in ICL. This is not sportman spirit
For IPL,due to money ,behave like dictator.
They should understand that ICL is also a organised association and if they have guts should face and not blackmail, the players who are dependent on cricket carrier
This clearly shows the inefficient functioning of Inter national cricket board.

shame BCCI
by Sparrow on Jun 24, 2008 11:55 AM

to call cricket a business is to hide behind the veil of a seemingly persuasive argument only to continue to be unethical. Even in business, people are entirely motivated by one's profit. So they don't mind grabbing the talents from the rival companies. or purchasing the entire company. what is happening here is not this kind of business rivalry. it is a sheer mad-minded hatred. BCCI is not concerned about making profit so much as it is concerned in crushing the rivals down to dust. along with ICL what the world will lose is pool of talents. so it is not the lose of ICL that one is worried about, but the lose of talents. one is not worried about single minded concern for profit but unashamed hatred.

to support BCCI in this betrays one's ignorance about business ethics and indulge in a sin tha the future generations will never forget, nor forgive.

Why should BCCI sympathise with a competitor?
by Saibaskar Parthasarathy on Jun 24, 2008 10:34 AM  | Hide replies

Those who shed tears for ICL kindly tell me had ICL been as successful as IPL would subash Chandra would have stopped there.. In all possibility as a businessman he would have brought the entire cricket setup to his knees and probably made Zee group to be the mandatory broadcasters of Cricket in any part of the world. Unfortunately for him inspite of timing ICL at the right time he was taking on an organization far more stronger than ICC in 1977 when Kerry Packer took on world cricket. The result is BCCI finally came around to accept the idea of city-based franchise-owned cricket. For me personally i would not like world cricket to be watched only through Zee group. Apart from the fact that quality is not something that we associate with this group the fact that world cricket today is so exciting because there is competition and any attempt to kill it must be stopped. ICL was an attempt to kill competition in broadcasting cricket. Had BCCI not acted the way it did this would have encouraged every broadcaster to come up with their own league which would have killed international cricket and international cricket setup itself. For all that we hate about BCCI it is still a better governed sporting body than any other sports body in India. Let this fact not be skewed by the greed of Zee group.

Good points. But, the moral of your story is, you dont want Zee group monopolizing the cricket scene, but you want BCCI continue its crushing and monopolizing ways.

Glad the the football lovers of Europe didnt think such way, or we wouldn't have had all those clubs and tournaments

You are thinking of monopoly of TV, but you forgot that BCCI is monopolising the game cricket in India.

Very true that BCCI is monopolized the game but that is where IPL will prove to be a double edge sword for BCCI. What one Subash Chandra cannot do alone can be achieved by a combination of Mallya, Ambani, SRK and others. BCCI will be forced to be accountable and if they are not accountable then these guyz are really big and would not be easy for BCCI to handle. What IPL will slowly bring in is accountability and professionalism which BCCI lacked

Why not BCCI is competing with ICL and banning the players from ICL..It shows that either they do'nt have courage/confidence to face competition from IPL or they have a veryyyyyy big ego..atleast they should give respect to KApil Dev who has given India the word cup...

Where are the players
by vivek murthi on Jun 23, 2008 08:46 PM  | Hide replies

I can understand the bullish behavior of BCCI/IPL towards ICL. These are decisions purely based on money and politics. However, the one thing I cant understand is how Intl. giants of the caliber of Sachin, Kallis, Mcgrath and many more can even show their faces in the public when such insults are being poured on other cricketers just because they play for the ICL. Where is the sportsmanship/spirit when good players and other cricketers are not allowed to compete just because they play for a different club. Do these giants want to play and win titles as world champions when they are not actually playing/winning against some of the best players. This goes to show that none of these players have any sportsmanship in them. They are all just covering their hyde's and make money. This is why cricket will never become a world sport and feature in the olympics.

These decisions are not based on the question of money. one who is concerned about money doesn't try waste wealth (read talents). It is hatred, and ego problem.

All this Brouhaha about letting ICL players to play in English Counties is not fair.... What BCCI are actually doing is to protect the intrests of cricket... If people like Subash Chandra are allowed to foray into this market .. Then its doomsday for cricket... Subash Chandra and Zee Group is doing nothing but hiring mercenaries for cricket... At the end of day its BCCI which is thinking about cricket and setting up academies and improving grounds everywhere and providing grants to respective boards ....whereas Subash Chandra and its Zee Group quietly pockets the money they have earned by giving a small percentage to the cricketers and other officials... Now its upto you to decide that who is doing a better job... Funny to see that people have consider it a fad to condemn BCCI and IPL (who are working aggressively to promote this game to the world arena) without checking the right facts... Well if the cricketers have chosen ICL over IPL ...it was their decision and they have to accept all the hazards

ICL equal to greed of Kapil Dev!!
by David Coverdale on Jun 23, 2008 08:18 PM  | Hide replies

ICL is symbolic of the greed of one man ie. Kapil Dev...this greedy man wants to mint money and is exploiting the Indian cricket league....

The best solution would be to merge ICL and IPL and allow ZEE exclusive rights for telecast for a 5 year period....

ICL is started by a bunch of unhappy people.
SC was unhappy coz he failed to get any broadcasting right.
Kapil was given the post of chairman of NCA ...why he was not happy...no idea
More, prassana, patil , etc etc were jobless so they joined the bandwagon
Some indian ICL players were not happy coz they were not picked for national side..rather they were not good enough.
Some Jr. players didnot have confidence that they will make it to the national side..so they joined..
Some fading up international players joined coz they wanted quick money....

So ICL is not for favour of doing anybody any good...It is just started by a businessman to earn some profits....thats all...they are doing nothing at grassroot level...

Why Blame BCCI...will coke will allow his CEO to work for Pepsi as well at a time

Dear Keshab,

Please don't talk rubbish. You cannot express anything as your view. If you are not offered a job by a top company, will you not join some other company for your survival..?????. Or will you wait starving till you get the job from the top company..???. It is all common sense and survival. What is the use of waiting for the BCCI to select the youngsters and starve for the life..???. Confidence is good. But overconfidence is foolish. If you are not able to get what you desire, then grab what you get. ICL youngsters have done exactly the same. There is nothing wrong in it. Ultimately what you need is survival. understand their feelings.

No need to feel sorry by ICL players or organisers since they never expected such support or recognition but accorded such status it could grow much stronger.

Why so much concern for ICL players
by timepass on Jun 23, 2008 05:18 PM  | Hide replies

Why are folks so find of ICL? Would they like if every TV channel started their pwn private league. We are emotional fools to feel sympathy for ICL players losing out on money. Why do we fail to see it is their greed that dragged them to this position. And why this misplaced sympathy for a handful of greedy crciketers failing to make big bucks in a country where half the nation struggles to have a square meal everyday. When are we going to wake up and do something about real issues??
