Don't forget the contribution of Madanlal
by sharad kumar on Jun 25, 2008 05:20 PM

Patil told"Kapil led the attack and was well-supported by Roger Binny [who was the highest wicket-taker in the tournament], Jimmy (Amarnath), Ballu (B S Sandhu) and Kirti (Azad) and Ravi (Shastri) at times". It is unfortunate that he has not mentioned the great contribution of Madan Lal as a bowler and also a steady batsman at lower order which has given strength to lower middle order. Who can forget his bowling in the finals. he had taken 3 most crucial wickets. He was in fact the real contender for the man of the match in the finals with Amarnath.

Gavaskar hardly scored a run in the whole tournament, maybe like 20 or so in the whole tournament,Shastri chipped in with 10 or 20 a match at the best,Vengsarkar got injured and hardly played a match,Srikanth,we all know how he performs, and u come out and say everyone played to potential Mr Patil..what a lie

...but srikkanth was always pitched in with some blistering 20s in lesser balls and also scored beyond 30s few occasions... more importantly he saved at least 20 runs per match. that's crucial in limited overs... and also he was the live wire behind the scene and which kept the team as a unit
