ICL exposed BCCI
by Bald Head on Jun 21, 2008 11:34 AM

It was a real revealation to watch players like Thirukumaran, Saravanan, Satish, Vignesh etc. in ICL tournaments. These guys batted, bowled and fielded fantastically.

Being a Tamilian myself, who has off and on followed the players from Tamilnadu in Ranji Trophy to international level, I am really taken aback that thanks to people like V B Chandrasekhar (who was national selector) and N Srinivasan (BCCI Treasurer) we never knew of players like the ones mentioned above, and were led unsuspectingly to believe that there are no players from Tamilnadu beyond Dinesh Karthik (who is lucky to get chances at international level) and Badrinath presently and Badani, Sriram in the past!

Shame on you BCCI and coterie, that you people do precious little to recognise and give exposure at the right time to deserving players.

Even now, although we have a series of matches coming up at international level, the same set of jaded and failing players continue to get chance after chance, while many deserving ones never get a worthwhile look-in, because BCCI does not even bother to have a meaningful rotation policy!

I wish ICL go to Court and get recognised by ICC, for, in these modern days, there can be no monopoly in any field.

Big stupidity - Why can't we have ICL also to compete
by G S on Jun 20, 2008 10:38 PM  | Hide replies

Competition is always better..it is not that you want to keep all the money in your pocket.

More tournament more exposure it is better for young indian players.

BCCI should not snuff ICL..I feel there is huge money going in Pawar and Modi's pocket...that is why there is so animosity on real cricket promotion.

Shame on politician's in cricket ..they are earning money for the elections ...fooling common people.

Ask powar how many cricket academy BCCI has funded ..how many fast bowling spin bowling academy BCCI is supporting. Shane warne wants to do one in Jaipur is BCCI interested in part some million for that ..

Also BCCI needs to invest in women cricket and lend a helping hand in hockey and other sports using money which we indians are paying ..not for their pocket for seeing India better in all the sports

BCCI on ICL
by Hemant Naik on Jun 20, 2008 10:22 PM

It is high time that we stop watching the matches played by BCCI team (not our indian team as we can see the developments). Shortly, the team will become, Sharad powar's and Modi's team. if you want to give them money, just give them. I will never watch this team playing from now on, until this BCCI will be taught a lesson.

ICL in counties
by Rackat Kanakam on Jun 20, 2008 09:30 PM  | Hide replies

Poor english counties. Never in their dreams they would have thought that they will get warnings from an association from India.
And when it comes to talent it is clearly eveident in comparison of the Hyd teams in ICL and IPl. The ICL-Hyd won the championship and the star-money studded IPL-Hyd down the table. Shows where the talent is. Why is BCCI hell bent on spoiling the dreams of these youngsters.

I don't understand your logic here mate."ICL Hyd" won ICL because the rest of the teams were crap.In IPL there were stronger teams and hence "IPL-Hyd" lost

What is IPL, it is even bigger stage drama by combining bollywood with cricket.Hope that EPL really takes off and gives competition to IPL, otherwise the BCCI thinks it can do whatever it wants.

How dare they
by sri on Jun 20, 2008 09:22 PM

The BCCI is being very very autocratic. How dare they do this! They are trying to rub the ICL out os existence. Is that proper bevaiour. They have been so mean as to erase everything about Kapil Dev and to deny him his pension (more a matter of dishonor than money). These guys are tyrants and are bringing a bad name to India!

Dear childish Pawar and Modi....
by Vinayak Gadekar on Jun 20, 2008 07:26 PM

Grow up and please smell the roses !

Why try to bulldoze and ruin the beautiful game of cricket for your own narrow-minded, egoistic ends ?

So much about 'globalisation of the game' ! What is the aim of a Champions League if the best players (wherever they are) are not able to participate ?

Solution
by mahendra sapa on Jun 20, 2008 06:14 PM

Most journalist/blogger/participants (indirect) agrees that BCCI is on the wrong side. But what is the solution. The only solution is for all of the above to boycott products belonging to the BCCI/IPL sponsorers and (critically) convey the same to the sponsorers and masses (local people) who don't have access to media. If everyone puts in concrete effort, eventually BCCI will get a message and things could change.

My best wishes to everyone.

Stretching its muscles!
by Ramesh Kapoor on Jun 20, 2008 05:30 PM  | Hide replies

BCCI is stretching not only its political muscles but also its financial wealth to subdue other cricket countries to bow down to its own dogmatic views. If the aim of BCCI is promoting cricket, then it should be proud that more is done to cricket by ICL that they failed to do in the past. IPL is a money making machine and not building up a nest of cricket players. It is about time that BCCI learns to live with competition so long ICL does not involve itself with BCCI's international calendar.

As an Indian, I am proud of the fact that and Incian Board NOW has the ability to stand firm on what it believes. Whether it is right or wrong is a different issue altogether.

What a weird logic. BCCI is not only using strong arm tactics against English counties but against anyone who dares question their power including ICL. If you justify BCCI actions today, then you should not complain if other boards start doing this. The greedy BCCI wants to grab all the market share of the TV/ad revenue, thats why it is not encouraging ICL. They are least interested in promoting cricket, all they care is to make more monay. Who gave BCCI the monopoly to run Indian cricket.
