PPL venues announced
by nanda hai cool banda on Jun 07, 2008 08:23 AM

Struggling to get international players interested in traveling to Pak, PPL has chosen Dhaka and Colombo as venues.

This means that BPL now has to move out of Dhaka to neighboring West Bengal. SLPL has to move out of Colombo to Andaman or Tamil Nadu.

ICL is in talks with BPL, SLPL, PPL. Winners of all these leagues will play in a round robin leage in Singapore. The winner will then be eligible for a sponsor in 2011.

;-)

Yeah, the prospective boards should quickly jump on the bandwagon... else by the time Namibia Cricket board tries to "differentiate" itself, they'll realise that they'll have to allow 13 foreign players ... ;-)
Coz just before them, the Kenyan Cricket association would already have okayed that the 12th man too can be a foreigner in their bid to clearly show that their Premier League is "totally" different..
:-)

Age testing
by Maheswari on Jun 07, 2008 02:31 AM

The recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) drew up an anti-doping code based on the WADA code. But the fact that the IPL was a domestic competition and the BCCI has no anti-doping law in place, it meant the testing sanctions would be irrelevant if a player would've tested positive.

"[In] any event that is approved by the ICC [it] will be mandatory to carry out random doping tests," Joshi said. "If the ICC wants WADA approval then they will have to enforce drug testing as part of the process." According to Joshi setting up a drug testing facility according the WADA standards is "extremely expensive" but he said New Delhi "might have a drug testing facility soon".

The packed international schedule has prompted the ICC to become more stringent, trying to maintain world standards with regard to player testing. The nandrolone issue surrounding Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif, during the previous Champions Trophy, only highlighted the importance of addressing the problem.

The medical panel felt the best way to start educating people and laying down rules was to begin at the grassroots. "For the testing procedures to be enforced at the world level without telling the grass-root player the implications of the taking a particular drug or a test is wrong because if he isn't aware he could be caught and disqualified for no fault of his.

IPL is a copy of ICL
by Effortless on Jun 06, 2008 10:19 PM  | Hide replies

No matter what the BCCI says, IPL was put together to counter ICL. They may have been thinking about having a T20 league for a long time but the fact remains that they went through it quickly because they knew that if they delayed it further then many players would be tempted to join ICL which the BCCI did not want.

It will not be a copy of IPL but a Carbon copy of IPL. And even if they allow 5 foreign players per team, which foriegn player will be willing to enter the country of suicide bombers. Also can they ensure even a tenth of what IPL managed to accumulate in terms of revenues.

PPL

The question of PPL being successful doesn't arise. With the security situation out there being horrendous, guess how many overseas players would make themselves available for the PPL.
