Key fact-T20
by Maheswari on Jun 07, 2008 04:31 AM

The key to team spirit is communication and this would have been Warne's greatest challenge. The only language that his think tank spoke was also the language that a lot of players in the team would have been uncomfortable with. But by gelling so wonderfully, and it was great to see, Warne showed that the language of cricket and the intent to communicate can over-ride strange nouns and verbs. It is a huge learning, one that enemies of foreign coaches would do well to reflect over. Language and culture can be a barrier for those who choose to look upon it as a barrier.

And yet, having been lucky to have had a ringside view of a lot of the action, if there was one reason I would ascribe to Rajasthan's success, it was that everyone in the team seemed empowered to win. Warne must have made everyone feel special, he certainly did young Ravi Jadeja. At the DY Patil stadium, before play started in the Mumbai Indians v Rajasthan Royals game, I saw Warne having a quiet puff and so waited till he finished before going over to say hello. In no time, he was by my side, cheerful grin as ever, firm handshake and eager to talk. The Royals were doing well and I told him I was intrigued by his decision to bat Jadeja at no 6 because we knew him as a left arm spinner who batted down the order. "Jadeja?", "Ah, he's a rockstar mate," he said and shouted across to the young kid who was about fifty metres away. "Have you met Harsha?" he said as young Jadeja promptly came skipping across. "Keep a

New test format
by Jayant Joshi on Jun 06, 2008 10:13 AM  | Hide replies

As Wasim says, T20 is certainly acid test for thinking bowlers. Ordinary bowlers are bount to be whipping boys. There is no time for experimenting. Every ball is important and every dot ball is a reward for the bowler and fielders. That is T20 for you.

Test matches should also undergo a change in format. Every inning should be limited to 100 or 120 overs which can not last more than a day and one session. Long boring 600 plus innings should go into past. Declaration of captain whose team plays penultimate inning should be compelled to leave not less than a ball a run chase for the last inning playing team.

Let ICC should arrange T20 for all the players like Dravid, Laxman, Sachin even Saurav too. so that they can play in their own way not like Jaysurya or Gambhir. If this is the thing then the T20 Scenario will be totally diferent, you just image - you should think that "Test match could be better than this" don't you ?

Prepare for surprises
by Chandra Paul on Jun 06, 2008 03:01 AM  | Hide replies

Seeing the T20 format of Hit-or-Out without technique, the average player can become a superstar. So many of the western countries who play base-ball will surprise the Test playing teams in the future.

if you still think T20 is hit-out-or-get-out, then either- a) you were either asleep when the IPL took place, b) you don't understand cricket c) you are slow.

Earlier when 1983 India won the world cup and there after the ONday games are becoming famous in all over the world. Even people have started to play limited over games. At that time many of us were thinking that the Future of the TEST CRICKET would be in DARK but you are still enjoying the test cricket even it is more interesting then earlier. In those days cricketers were trying to DRAW out the match but today the scenario has been change and the team starts the test match with a target to win.

So I don;t think there will be any harm to Test Cricket or ODI due to T20. Test cricket can not be played by all players they need techniques to play where as in T20 any one can play, it doesn;t matter whether you are taking bat first time in hand, it is only entertaining game like base ball. you have to hit hard, there is no need to have techniques and many players became heros in T20 like Yusuf Pathan. Lets see what he will do in ODI.
