What a finding
by Raman on Jul 23, 2008 10:27 AM  | Hide replies

U gotta pick him up when he is about to deliver the ball says vishy, well Vishy what else do u think the batsmen would do,pick him up even when he is fielding the ball?
Its a shame that our famed batting flopped to a rookie in a final and lost one more final to add the tally to 18 final losses, what a horrible record to have...

How about bowler switching ends ....
by ashish tikku on Jul 22, 2008 10:24 AM  | Hide replies

I think over the period we have made game of cricket more favourable to batsman and poor bowler are hit all over the park especially in one day and 20-20 formats...

I think like batman are allowed 'switch hit' same should be applicable to bowlers as well. It would be great fun to see a bowler running over the wicket but ending up round the wicket  . We can restrict it to one per over like we do for bouncer but would be fun to see bowler and batman switching stance and delivery points 

That would be interesting... Imagine some one like Sohail Tanvir , with his wrong footed action bowling with either arm....

Dear Tikku, it is jut not possible for a bowler to start his run up as if he is going to bowl over the wicket and then end up bowling round the wicket. Because, the sight screen is adjusted to allow the batsmen proper view of the ball and the bowler's arm, after the bowler indicates whether he will bowl over the wicket or round the wicket.

What Khiladi is suggesting, is however interesting. I have heard of left handed bowlers who bat right handed (Ravi Shastri) and right arm bowlers who bat left handed (Sourav Ganguly, James Anderson); I have also come across medium pacers who double up as spinners or vice versa (Andrew Symonds, Karsan Ghavri). But I am not aware of right arm bowler bowling with his left arm or vice versa.

mendis....
by deepak on Jul 22, 2008 08:11 AM  | Hide replies

First wait for a few deliveries, coz mendis has no variety, then play aggresively. Thos is the mantra....for mendis.

Mendis has variety in bowling, but players like Dravid, Sachin are played bowl at he last moment.
Mendis will not success against them.
Players who predecided their shots like sehwag will not success against him.

Sachin & Sehwag will blast him off. Its only a matter of time . Let the first test start & also in daylight in test matches it would be much easier for batsman to observe his action , wrist & finger movement.

Mendis
by Khiladi on Jul 21, 2008 08:50 PM

I have observed that he use his middle finger to change the grip position occasionaly, which is very rare to see. That is creating confusion to the batsmen's mind.

Mendis Magic & answer for that
by Belagur KrishnaPrasad on Jul 21, 2008 05:48 PM  | Hide replies

Mendis appears a bit freak in his delivery. He uses his finger grip differently with each ball.He doesn't use his wrist much to turn the ball. One needs to play like the way many overseas batsmen adapted to Kumble. One needs to watch late and play as close to the body as possible, not expecting the ball to turn much. The deliveries which come quicker off the turf is the one that needs to be watched.Players with high backlift will find it difficult to tackle such deliveries. This needs to be looked into and it may take some time.Rest depends on the batsmen's talent, concentration and patience.

kumble release the ball from last two fingers, but Mendis relese the ball both ways of his middle finger, which is something new. But the batsmen will play him very well in coming days.
May his one over to Sehwag can change Mendi's career...!!
