No chance England
by deepak on Jul 11, 2008 10:54 PM  | Hide replies

Making money from cricket is an Indian expertise. England please stick to sight seeing tours of Buckingham Palace and make money. England is useless and doesnt do anything well anymore. USA & India rules.

England cricket board needs to understand that there are some factors why IPL will rule the world cricket.First India does not have any equally competitive sport(for our own peril in long term).Whereas England and europe have soccer.Cricket can never be soccer in popularity. And ofcourse Wimbledon.Number two-how many will watch England leagues when we have IPL planning another season of league cricket in the same year!!!!And England is not India in size or economy! The same thing will apply to Pakistan too-Add terrorism and religious insanity that exists there. Therefore it will be hard to emulate IPL.I have soft corner for Kapils ICL for he was the one who started this.

I agree with your point 100%. English people are so crazy for soccer. So it's hard to match IPL. But time only will tell the truth.

If there's no market...create a market.

make people believe that they are missing something if they are not doing it.

Soccer is not a favorite sport in india but dont you feel the xing when we have an Euro cup or a Fifa World Cup.

20/20 has the potential...just need to tap it.
Make it popular in US,Canada,China,Japan and African countries...Europe and South America will follow soon.

Umm the smell of money is always welcome.

A small correction Abbas! - UK's economy is 2.7 times the Indian economy (@ 2.7 trillion while India just crossed the 1 tr mark very recently).

yep ,I guess your are correct....
but the matter of teh fact is that India is a growing economy, its not the goverment of India that is responsible for the growth it common man like you and me... or industrialists like narayan murthy... premji... and the ambanis that are driving the economy of India.

Well as far as the economy of England goes its stagnated and people are conservative in their spending, on the other hand now look at India, the spending and buying power has exponentially increased...(and mind you this is just the begining.....)just look at the malls that are coming around you in India, you will be able to gauge the spending power of Indians.

(P.S :- do not read much into the inflation rate at 11.83 as of today... that will drastically come down very soon as it has gone up.as soon as there is ample oil supply in the market.)

What Goes Up, But Never Comes Down?----INFLATION
No matter what anyone has to say; Just to reach what England has achieved India would take centuries. A lot of research and courage is involved
Even if England's economy becomes stagnant {as few think} it is still way ahead of India
Having said all this we should be proud of India
Even with all the issues we have,
India is going to beat a lot countries especially cricket
US,CANADA,JAPAN and so on Cricket is played by mostly immigrants from the sub-continent

CRICKET has become more commercialized nowadays. Cricket organizers dont rely on people coming to watch cricket. They rely on global television rights and sponsporship endorsements. England is lookign to cash-in only on these factors. Who Knows, it may turn out be a cash rich one also.

In England and Australia, people come in to watch Test matches and that too when they play against each other. England's domestic cricket already has a t-20 tournament. Why do they need something else? It would be better if they send 2-3 teams (upto 4 international players, including indians per team) to IPL and demand some revenue from Lalit Modi. Similarly Australia, Pak, Lanka, WI, SA, NZ should send 2-3 teams. Imagine some 32 teams playing IPL in 8 pools - 4 teams per pool. First two teams go to next round from then on.... knockout!! Totally soccer world cup style....

wow what a geneius you are , IPL will then become International Premier League. I would rather have 32 countries participate in T20 world cup ala football style and have develop IPL(Indian Prenier league ) in other cities of India.

Haroon Lorgat (ICC Chief) - how childish he is for that pristine post!
by computer learning on Jul 11, 2008 09:10 PM  | Hide replies

From Cricinfo.com - regarding ci-icc/content/current/story/360694.html, what is the origin of Haroon Lorgat (the new ICC chief executive)? Does he have a south asian origin? His comments are childish for the post he holds. Which era does he belong to when Cricinfo reported he says: "My folks always told me to be careful because money is the root of all evil. ..." When would a person holding such a pristine position in one of the leading games in the world understand "Money is *not* *the* root of all evil - rather the emotion of having plenty of money is a root of all evil - Hindu book Gita says too, so does Christian Bible too". The holy books mention that "well managed money" is perfectly fine - rather an essential ingredient - for the mankind growth. Teach Haroon Lorgat that. Forward these comments to him. Include your valuable comments too.

what ICC CEO meant to say was Sri Lankan experienced players are missing SL Eng bilateral series for IPL which is going take place in April 2009. The article says that the Sri Lankan experienced players are playing for money instead taking pride for playing for the country. So he suggested IPL should be held in such a way that it does not affect bilateral series of ICC. So thats why he said money is a root cause of evil because in present days the players should take priorities right.

Cricket is best only when played in the beautiful English Summer. Desis and cricket have been mutually destuctive. Cricket has destroyed other sports in India. And Indian weather has destroyed cricket. Now they play cricket all 12 months a year and even in the horrible Indian summer.
I wish English IPL good luck.

End of the day, these tournaments are run by money. There's no money for Cricket in England (only Soccer flies in England). It flew in India because we have tremendous amount of money for Cricket. No other country can match what India is doing for 20/20.
