DHONI REMEMBER
by Nakshathravana on Jul 07, 2008 11:58 PM  | Hide replies

DHONI ! You should have been ousted from the team when you played sloppy shot against Srilanka during world cup. You were picked and supported by the senior players like Ganguly and Dravid. Once you are in lime lite you do not want senior players who are still ahead of any India players in the playing team. Your shots nothing bu a DHOBI shots without any technique. God will, will punish you for your crookedness, cunningness, arrogance. REMEMBER WHEN YOU PLAY FOR INDIA COUNTRY COMES FIRST THAN AN INDIVIDUAL. Vengasarkar is an immatured selector and he shoould shown back door along with DHONI

Dhoni atleast had the guts to decide when he needs rest, in the past none (other than Tendulkar) had the confidence that if they are out of the team, they would ever regain their position.

Dhoni has performed...the last man standing.....but if Ganguly/Tendulkar was there, he must have played out all the overs of Ajantha Mendis without loosing the wickets....Under Ganguly, India has lost finals because of the bowlers....but remember Dhaka....the same score was given to him...he scored 124 and won the game for India....Guts does not mean everything brother unless you have logic and superior performance to back it up...

Ganguly is a great player I admit, but no need to give him a superman status..

In your logic, let me question you - Did Ganguly won any one day series in Australia, Dhoni did that..

Hi Arindam its Sachin who scored back to back centuries who won the series for India.Tell me one match where Dhoni showed guts and won a match for India after becoming captain.I dont think he has ever won a match on his own after becoming the captain. As a captain he is supported by a good team, but his captaincy skills like field placements and street smartness are laking big time.Give him a team wat ganguly had he would fail miserably. And India will loose a lot,if it goes by his instinctive decisions.I dont see y Irfan was played and Y Yuvi was sent at 4 in between a tough spell by Mendis knowing that he is not good against spinners. How could he justify that.Yuvi plays fast bowlers well,he does'nt have a clue against quality spinners. And Irfan should go back to Domestic cricket to gain his place back.there are better all rounders in the Indian domestic circuit.Dhoni has become really over confident bcos of the money he received from IPL and the advertisements and the publicity he is getting he has to remember that he has'nt done even 10% of what Ganguly,Sachin and Dravid has done their respective carers.Dhoni should'nt be so over confident. Its better he takes a break look back at the comments he made and come back as a person who he was when he started.Take few tips from Sachin how to be doen to earth even if ur at the top of the world. That's a great player is like.that's y he is compared to the next closest thing to Don Bradman.

Looking at Final, I fully agree. From both the teams most of the players played in IPL. But Srilankan players play for their nation, whereas our players shine only in IPL AND ALSO AT UNDER ANY PRESSURE.
Looking at final, Indian players did not show any fighting spirit, neither they were looking upset after loosing the match. Only we cricket loving and nation proud fans were upset.
Our players need to learn lot from Pakistan and Srilanka, about their fighhting spirit.

Completely agree with you.Its we who are making them rich which is getting to their heads. So we deserve it.They should be checked for the amount of advertisements they are doing. So that they ll concentrate on Cricket and play for the nation. If any one has to be blamed for the recent performance it should be Lalit Modi bcos its he who brought the concept of IPL.He lured Indain captain and the Players with lots of money. Now they win the match for India or not they will get their money for 2 more years from IPL.Then y would they Play with Passion for their country.

Dhoni was running a purple patch till now.He has got a good team. But when one plays for long time oppositions will get hang of things and will make strategies. If Dhoni is really cool and tough he should make sure that India does'nt loose more finals and that too so badly.
And coming to him playing till the end.He has never won a match playing till the end after becoming captain. Its only top order which won matches till now.Middle order has'nt done much in ODI's of late including Yuvraj his deputy tell me one match recently when he constructed an innings and won a match for India. He is a just a hitter thats it not a complete batsman. He is only fit for T20 and for IPL does'nt fit in ODI's.The team requires Dhoni and Yuvi to be strong in crisis but they are failing miserably in it.Top 2 gone match gone.Bcos Yuvi canoot provide stability. And new look Dhoni cannot be aggressive to lift the run rate. Now on I dont see this Indian team doing well on consistent basis. If sensible Dhoni should learn from Jayawardena how to be aggressive on the feild with his feild placements. He is not as cool as described. If the opponent goes beserk he falls short of ideas. He should develop that street smartness in his captaincy skills.

He did his best in this series, scored 327 runs, avg of 109 and Strk rt of 91.3. Made the highest dismissal as WktKpr, 11 in total

Check out our past records in Asia Cup..

Asia Cup, 2004, Final Sri Lanka v India
Result: Sri Lanka won by 25 runs

'We cannot lose so many finals' - Ganguly

The first step to solving a problem is often to admit that it's there in the first place. And Sourav Ganguly did that after the Asia Cup final when he admitted that India's performances in grand finals bordered on the unacceptable. "I don't know what it is, but we're not doing something right," he said. "We cannot lose so many finals."

For Ganguly, it was a ninth loss - against a solitary win - in 13 finals under his stewardship, and he accepted that falling short yet again was a devastating blow.

Asia Cup 2000, Bangladesh - India did not reach the final, Captain Ganguly

==================================================================================

Coca-Cola Champions trophy final, Sharjah 2000.
Srilanka - 299/5 , India 54 (FiftyFour) all down, captain Sourav Ganguly.

What was Ganguly's performance in Last Test Series in Australa ?

What did he do to rescue India against the do-die match against Srilanka in the World cup ?

guys everyone knows sachin still has cricket left in him...

he has played more cricket than any person living or dead, hence his body is tearing apart, this is also the reason why he has such so much experience, so he needs to be played and rested intelligently in order to benefit the team.

p.s. about dhoni, he is a good player n a good captain (like saurav he supports his team) but he is getting a bit too flamboyant n egoistic i feel with his comments on senior players. they r the ones who supported his position in the team in the first place.

India lost in finals of Bangaladesh & Asia Cup resp. In the league stage they defeated minnows like Bangladesh, Hong-kong. They also defeated Pakistan but got defeated in crutial clashes. so what's the use of having a young team who r not experienced to handle preesure & putting them to perform at the big stage, Its nothing but a ridiculous decision. This way India will never do it big in the big stage. In Australia Sachin came to the rescue in the two finals. how could one justify the selection of GONI & Y Pathan on the basis of IPL performance, how funny. See Jayasurya for eg., he single handedly took Sri Lanka out of the ruins. thats what experience helps to achieve. Sourav & Dravid still have a lot of Cricket in them. & regarding the performance in the fielding department, this young Indian team didn't do much better either. sorry Dhoni, u need to think of INDIA first & not ur personal ego.

Senior players??
by selvaraj thangam on Jul 07, 2008 09:31 PM  | Hide replies

ah ah ah...only jokers want to have ganguly, dravid..etc. If u want to win coming world cup, we only need to groom current team with young players as we have enough time for that. and as far senior people, they can give valuable advice...as i always say, we should felicitate them with awards but if we include them in the team jus because they have experience, we cannot even enter quarter finals in WC. Think and act practically!!

agree on grooming youngsters, Dhoni included.
disagree on the value of senior players. If a player is in form, then his seniority/age should not be held against him. With Ganguly, we reached WC finals. "On the eve of Sourav Ganguly’s 36th birthday which coincides with team selection for upcoming Sri Lanka tour, former chief selector Gundappa Rangnath Viswanath made case for the ex-India captain, saying he still had much to deliver to the national team"

True, the reason no spinner can dominate sachin is, he knows which way balls going to turn by looking at the way ball is spinning, not the action of bowler. So, Mendis may have confusing action.. but its no use against sachin.

by BostonTechee on Jul 07, 2008 09:10 PM  | Hide replies

Why isnt this a headline news on Rediff and everywhere??? One IFS officer thats a Indian Foreign service diplomat is killed and a Brigadier from the Indian Army is killed along with 2 Indian soldiers guarding the Indian Embassy. It also killed dozens of Afghani Sinks and Hindus who were waiting outside the embassy to get a Indian Visa.

This is very serious matter, and its a matter of gravest concern for all Indians all over the world. Why are we even having news items of Dhoni, Mulayam and all junk news which is getting top priority? Dont we Indians value the lives of Indians killed abroad doing their duty?

Why isnt this a headline news on Rediff as well as all other portals and news channels?

Isnt Attack on Indian Embessy actually an Attack on Indian soil?
Shame on us all. Its Sad we dont value those who are doing the duty for India.

datz because ppl who died are hindus and sikhs. itz their duty to die in the hands of terrorists and itz community. the media cannot establish itz secular credentials by giving top priority to this sort of news. whr as some new york conference called by indian muslims to discuss abt the marginalisation of a certain community and also to protect the secular character of India was a slide show on rediff. now datz media secularism.

Dhoni pulling out of the Sri Lanka Tour
by Hendryk Lee Manson on Jul 07, 2008 09:09 PM  | Hide replies

This guy is being paid too much money and he will go the Tendulkar way. What is intriguing is that Dhoni after dropping two catches, atleast one which he should have caught lost to Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup. Even the commentators were puzzled why he chose to chase. Do you get me Steve as the famous and the late A.F.S.Talyarkhan is to conclude his article!!

The bloke is just an average wicketkeeper, so dropped catches is not surprising. He's a much better batsman who got lucky, as Tendulkar annointed him captain. Agree he is getting paid way too much and needs to earn his keep more.
